An interesting start to the series, although I am left with the impression that the author has many, many ideas and she wasn't able to develop them fully in this book. Hopefully she's able to weave a tighter narrative in later books and bring her disparate ideas into a cohesive whole. I also am left with questions about Emberbloods, namely are they born like that or are the animal feet, ears, and tail something that happens during childhood? That being said, it's a promising start.

Aether’s Call by MJ Baerman is UTTERLY AMAZING! Interesting magic system, Well developed characters. Literally on edge of seat action sequences. The “side” character are impeccable. I’m in love with Charlie, the sassy, size changing, fire breathing, gala monster. OH, and the background and motivations of the people broke and healed my heart.
Should I have slept? Yes. Did I suffer at work? Yes. WORTH IT!
