700 reviews!!! Yahoo!!! This was just silly, mindless fun. And I loved how the author prefaced everything by saying just that. Now I love waterparks. Dorney Park, Mountain Creek, they’re all a good time. And you know what ruins a nice day at a water park? An alcoholic bog witch who steals peoples lives and attire. Although that may be subjective, and some people may claim that inclusion is important. Whether it’s killer mermaids, chanting pirate frogs (My personal favorite!), snakes, slugs, or any other swamp creature, we should all just get along and enjoy a nice day of waterslides, boozy drinks, and cheaply made nacho snacks. So this is exactly what you’d expect, plays out the way you assume it will, the characters are all forgettable, the premise is ludicrous, but somehow it never disappoints. Turn off your brain, have a drink, and soak up some sun with Zelda the bog witch. And I’m delighted to say that I just found out our resident witch will make some future appearances, too. I can’t wait!

This was an entertaining, fun little read from my friend Penny Moonz.

Zelda is a bog witch who has been living in the bog for many years. One night, there are loud fireworks from the newly built Waterpark, which rouse Zelda from her boggy swamp.

After causing a monstrous storm over the Waterpark, which causes the power to go out, Zelda decides to have some fun. Roaming around and trying out the rides, while visitors and staff are panicking and stumbling around in the dark, Zelda ends up getting drunk on frozen margaritas, and a belly full of popcorn, all completely new to her. While all around her, the park is overrun with frogs, a giant snake, turtles, bugs and other creatures from the bog, who are causing havoc and killing the humans.

This also has some bloody gore, as Zelda likes to slice open human bodies, and feast on their insides, all washed down with a strawberry daiquiri or two.

I recommend this to young adult readers, who enjoy an easily entertaining, humorous, slasher yarn.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I received my own copy from Penny, but I’m also grateful to BookSirens for sending me a free ARC, of which I’m happy to provide a voluntary review.

The preface for the book let's you know right away from the author herself this is a really stupid and fun book and it is that indeed.

Frog Island Waterpark is a brand new park with so much to offer from the typhoon twirler, water cannon slides, numerous swimming pools and bars to enjoy some frozen margaritas. However the park was made over a bog which is the home to Zelda an ancient witch. On opening day to the park she is awakened from her slumber and is not to happy with the new arrangements.

Zelda goes on a rampage through the park killing and dismembering the visitors in gruesome ways while envoking her magic to turn the parks mascots and rides into real life killing beings. My favourites being the pirate frogs, Mr Octopus and the killer mermaid. Zelda is having lots of fun getting drunk of margaritas and conjuring up a sorts of icky reptiles such as snakes , lizards and bugs which splash out of the swamp and Zelda herself which overruns the park. Can Zelda be stopped? Will anyone be left alive to tell the tale of Frog Island Waterpark?

Now that sounds amazing right? Well it is and it isn't. It gets kinda repetitive at times and Zelda who is by far the funniest character with her wit and humor is missing for a decent chunk in the middle to focus on the mascots and stories of some of our visitors whilst she is off getting drunk and having a grand old time. These other characters are ok but I was just wishing Zelda would come back for some more carnage. It is also a bit too silly for my liking which isn't a bad thing and is what the author intended so it's just not entirely for me that's all.

This should be targeted at YA audiences maybe 12 and up. It does have themes of alcohol use and some if not repetitive descriptions of limbs being torn away and body parts floating around in the water ect but for most adult readers it might be a bit on the juvenile side. It would be perfect for YA readers who I believe would really love the antics of Zelda and the non stop pace and variety of silly characters which it has to offer.

Whilst the book may not have been for me overall it achieved what the preface said it would. It's a stupid and fun slasher novel set in a wonderful location and has a relentless pace so for that it is well done.

This started off strong for me and lost steam about half way through. Personally I would of liked more Zelda the Witch and less of the mass of additional Waterpark characters gone wrong. Overall this was a fun, slasher that kept me entertained. I think Zelda is hilarious and terrifying. It’s definitely peaked my interest in Penny Moonz and her other titles.

This would make a very entertaining, cheesy slasher if it were to be made into a film! What an original idea from Moonz. When I heard the title I knew I had to read it and overall am glad I did. Definitely will look at the waterpark differently this summer haha!

I needed a fun, fast-paced book to help me avoid a fantasy series induced book hangover. This book delivers! I love that the author starts the novel by telling you how silly this book is. Zelda, the bog witch, is rudely awoken by a drunk teen peeing on her in her bog. Violence ensues, guts are spilled & frozen margaritas are drunk as Zelda enacts her revenge in this slasher style novel, brilliant, fun, quick read.I received an advance review copy for free from booksirens.com, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What a fun and enjoyable, yet disgustingly horrific little read. Moonz even says herself that you need to go into this book with a sense of humour and if you do, trust me…it’s a riot! I adored the characterisation of Zelda, our sassy swamp witch protagonist and her response to a waterpark being built on her home. Filled with laughs and screams, I will definitely never ever look at Sea World or any other water park the same again, that’s for sure!

Dark sense of humor needed

Penny sent me out a book for an honest review, and I'll put my review on that one too, but I also did get the ebook.

If you do not have a dark sense of humor, then this book isn't for you. She even says it in the book, so you have been warned. There were some mistakes, but nothing that would take away from the story.

I really enjoyed reading her book. A mess of chaos, death at the hands of statues and slides come to life, and a bog witch who wanted her land back and frozen drinks.

This book is a quick hilarious read that definitely made me crack up from time to time.

Zelda is a witch you don't want to mess with as she will make your life a living nightmare literally. A fun day at the Frog Island Waterpark turned deadly in a matter of moments at the hands of the bog witch. Families, couples, single, adult, teen, child, none of that matters to Zelda. You're on her land, and she wants you off.

Horror comedy indeed.

A silly, slasher, “B” movie type of book. It was very bloody and lots of fun, you can tell the author had a blast writing this story.

It’s definitely a read that older teens and adults can enjoy. It won’t stop me from going on water slides this summer, but I’ll definitely be thinking about this book while I’m on them 😂

Thank you to the author & BookSirens for a copy!

A new waterpark has been built by a swamp. On opening day Zelda the Bog Witch is awakened and she wreaks havoc.

This was a ton of fun. Very campy and silly but still a fun slasher. The killings were all very similar with a good dose of violence but not too much. There is no plot beyond your basic creature feature. Zelda's dialogue is silly by everyone else speaks like real people. There is a large cast of characters but they were all distinct and not hard for me to remember. One family of four is considered the main character(s) while the others usually have two scenes, an introduction and a kill. I had a grand time reading this. It was quick and a good time read. The kills could have been more gross for my liking. If you like campy slashers this one's for you.

I love it when books don't take themselves too seriously, like the author says herself at the beginning of the book, this is just for fun. And the book was outrageous. Zelda the Bog Witch and her friends were stupid funny characters, and like a lot of reviews say, I also wished there was more focus on them than on all the side characters.

One thing I did not really like were most of the descriptions of people when they got first introduced. Some of those felt a little insensitive and simplistic to me. Also, they were not important to the story itself.

But aside from that, it was an entertaining read, and I'm looking forward to more of Zelda!

I recieved this arc in return for my honest review.

Slasher Witch at the Waterpark is so unserious in the best most gory and horrific ways!

Penny Moonz latest gory thriller is a story that reads exactly like a B-horror movie. Exactly the type of stories that I love. It's campy, it's detailed, and it's quite fantastic. This story follows exactly what it says, a scary witch is released from a bog in which a Waterpark has just opened. Horror and hilarity ensue when the normal patrons of this waterpark must survive this vengeful witch.

This book is a short hysterical vengeful ride. However, for as much comedy as there is in this novel. There are truly some great terrifying scenes. As someone, who is not a huge fan of amusement parks, this is the setting out of my nightmare. Gore filled water slides? Count me horrified!

This book is definitely something I enjoyed and I think horror and thriller readers will love it too!

this was such a great horror comedy novel, it had everything that I was looking for. I loved the horror and comedy elements, it really worked well overall and the story was so well done. Penny Moonz has a great style and I loved the way she used witches in this story. It was a unique concept and I enjoyed that it had a waterpark in this. I look forward to read more like this book from Penny Moonz.

"The woman stepped up. “Listen, you stinky bitch. Don’t be” Zelda swiped her long, pointy finger at the woman’s neck in one swift, single motion, opening a thin line that grew as the woman’s neck bent back and open. Blood sprayed into Zelda’s face and flooded down the woman’s chest. She went lax, falling forward and face down. Zelda licked the fresh blood off her sharp fingernail, savoring the glittery taste."

I am grateful to have received this eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a silly story not to be taken seriously, so the reader can just delight in the mindless shenanigans. The book centres around Zelda, a Bog Witch interrupted from her slumber. While trying to enjoy herself at the waterpark (frozen margarita, anyone?), Zelda creates utter chaos for park-goers. There is plenty of gore and many people are killed in unexpected ways (Typhoon Twirler!!!), not for squeamish readers!
This was pure comedy horror with some amazing one-liners, I rate this book 4 stars. I am intrigued to read more from Penny Moonz.

This book was given to me through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This book has done a great job of capturing the feel of two genres. First the slasher film era of the late 80's early 90's. Second the SciFi channel fun of movies with giant bugs/rats/creatures of whatever kind. The book opens with the preface warning the reader of the complete ridiculousness that follows throughout the story. Knowing that going in allows the reader to embrace the absolutely ludicrous events that take place. While as ridiculous as the story is, there are still some legit moments of adrenalin inducing terror for the claustrophobics in the crowd.
I don't believe the story actually states what state the story takes place in, however, I grew up in Florida and this seemed like the perfect story for a Florida setting. A waterpark grand opening built over old marsh/swamp/bog land with cicada sounding off. Sounds like it could be Florida to me.
One line in the story I'm sure I'll find myself quoting, "ya got me right in my fancy vest." If you know you know.
Thank you NetGalley for the fun adventure.

The author says straight from the beginning that it’s a silly book and it is. I had the best time reading it! The waterpark actually sounded like a lot of fun before the massacre started. 😂 It’s gross, gory and total chaos. It was so wild and just kept getting more wild. Zelda is hilarious. It bounces around between different characters at the park so you don’t really get too attached to any of them. I loved the end so much even if it was completely bonkers. If you like comedic horror that doesn’t take itself too seriously, you may enjoy this!

Frozen Lemonade Stealing Bi...witch!

Slasher Witch at the Waterpark by Penny Moonz

Her name is Zelda Odenbaugh.
Ancient/F/Frog Island Waterpark

The bog witch was here first. She'll swallow you whole! And you don't magically disappear...you'll sit there in her disturbingly, impossibly distended stomach, bouncing along the ground while Zelda trots along looking for more treats and souvenirs.

This was a hilarious, gorey, and quick read. Picture yourself relaxing at a waterpark when the slides and figurines come alive to murder you. Pirate frogs sing songs and drunkenly steer a pirate ship through the park, mowing down everything in the way. You better hide or they'll scoop you up, throw you over their shoulders, and hop away. Ribbit!

By the way, don't make eye contact with Sully the Seal. He's kind of terrifying. "After a few paces, Sully the Seal faced the building and glared at the crowd staring back at him. He gave a large, vibrating bark, 'Arf! Arf!' He showed his stretched, dangerous fangs."

If you are critical about your books, this is not for you. This is not high brow horror. Slasher Witch at the Waterpark is a comedic horror novella. Don't take it seriously. Taking your kids to the waterpark this summer? Bring this to read while you sip on a delicious frozen drink.

Thank you Penny Moonz for the gifted book!

Slasher witch at the waterpark 🎢

I was gifted this on audible and was so glad as it meant I got to it sooner ☺️

So Zelda is a bog witch that until now happily resided in her peaceful bog. Unfortunately that’s ruined by a giant water park being built directly around it! Zelda’s not a happy witch, too much noise & too many unfamiliar objects & people.

She ventures into the park, swiping frozen margaritas & demanding everyone GETS OUT OF HER BOG. But when the security try kick her out, all hell breaks loose & the chaos begins!

This was so fun! I didn’t expect her to be so savage 🤣 this was magical, funny, a bit gorey & all around a bundle of joy to read 👌🏻

My only criticism would be I didn’t like how the narrator screeched Zelda’s voice, it went through me everytime 🫣 but the story made up for it! I’d of rated it higher had I of read it & not listened for sure. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This book may "understand the brief" better than just about anything I've read recently. Does it elevate, does it burst with emotional intelligence or deep personal truths? No. But if you came into "Slasher Witch at the Waterpark" looking for those things, I think the problem may not be with the book.

Penny Moonz promises, in this book, bog witch mayhem in a waterpark, and by God if that isn't exactly what they deliver. Horrifying mermaids, octopus monsters, frog pirates, and a hilariously crude bog witch fill this slim volume, making it a brutal, hilarious ride.

It's not for everyone, but if you're looking for a crude, crazy trip, this is quite the adventure. Big bonus for being a lightning quick read.

If you are in the mood for a summery horror comedy, this one hits the spot like a frozen margarita while at the waterpark. We meet Zelda the bog witch who’s slumber has been disturbed by the opening of a new waterpark. When she ventures out to investigate, chaos ensues. Things come alive, people are dismembered, frozen margaritas are enjoyed, and Zelda has the time of her life while people run for theirs. This book was ridiculous and hilarious and I loved every minute!

I don't know why I chose this book, I can't watch scary movies, I've never read a horror book but this was fantastic 😆
It was hilarious, disgusting and really well written! I literally know nothing about this genre so is horror comedy a thing? If it is, then that's what it was. Moonz has created such a highly detailed and descriptive experience that was shocking, entertaining, grotesque and I couldn't put it down.
Still don't know wtf I just read but I enjoyed it

Like Lloyd Kaufman making a Troma movie in a water park, Penny Moonz’ Slasher Witch at the Water Park comes in covered in ooey gooey and over the top fun. Seriously, this book is like 160 pages of the scene in Ghostbusters with all of the ghosts showing up. It’s fast, filled with surprises, and has some lovable main characters… even Zelda is a little lovable in her own froyo loving way. K thx.

Zelda of the bog!!! Oh how I love a good slasher horror book! The imagery from the author makes you feel like you are there fighting the frogs, mermaid and octopus along with the patrons! Lots of gore of course and some humor to lighten things up! Zelda drinking was my favorite part of the book, witches need strawberry daiquiris too! Overall a great fun quick read!

I spent many summers as a kid at water parks and I can easily picture this terrifying and silly tragedy. The body count is high so don’t think an entertaining setting means no gore. This is a fun novella, perfect for summer. Thanks to NetGalley for a digital copy.
