You have been touched, taught, guided, comforted, empowered, affirmed, and loved by the Holy Spirit ... but you probably didnt know it was he. With his wit, refreshing candor, and ability to make theology vivid and applicable, Steve Brown helps readers understand who the Holy Spirit is and how they can see him at work in their lives. Beginning with a refresher course on the Holy Spirit, the author reviews biblical, theological, and historical information every believer should know. He then addresses the specific actions and work of the Holy Spirit and examines the Spirits supernatural work in tongues, prophecy, and healing. Finally, he explores the amazing work of Gods spirit in a believers knowledge of truth, walk with Christ, and sanctification. It is my hope that in the recognition of our Lord the Holy Spirits work, writes Brown, you will love God more and serve him better. Anyone who believes the Bible is Gods Word will benefit from the insights found in this book.

Pastor Steve Brown writes an honest account of his experience with the Holy Spirit, not just what he has learned about Him. He admits his own interpretations may be wrong or may be right; the important fact is that he believes in the Holy Spirit as part of the Triune God with the Father and the Son, Jesus Christ. He also admits in this book that he is an effective sharer of God's word and he attributes that to his relationship with the Holy Spirit, the Wind. That relationship is not predicated on fear and submission but rather a friendship and love. This point Pastor Brown stresses for Christians to see how much the Holy Spirit is involved in their lives. To support this thought, Brown presents the fruits of the Holy Spirit in an in-depth look at its application in his life .
Without judging how anyone else interprets their faith, Brown realizes people perceive differently and worship differently. The difference does not make anyone wrong or right, just different. Once one drops their own perceptions and surrenders to the Holy Spirit; then he experiences God's will instead of trying to identify, categorize, dissect, and create it.
Steve Brown wrote a great book on the Holy Spirit. As a Reformed Presbyterian he charts a helpful middle ground between cessationism and continuationism. It is worth you time.
This book was dealing with the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer, though different from most reformed writers in some areas and his unwillingness to completely denounce positions that don't fit nicely into his tradition, giving them props from time to time because they love Jesus even though they may be weak on theology. I agree with some things he said but I've seen how these things cause people to experience something they think is God (but doesn't describe the God of scripture) when it could be an emotional sham they have worked themselves into. He uses a lot of his book doing what he is excellent at and that's using stories to illustrate his point, I think thats why its so easy to get wrapped up in his books. Each chapter is filled with how the Holy Spirit works in our lives in big & little ways, but unlike a book written by a Reformer or Puritan it is for a Christian layman who may not know that much about Christianity. I think the clearest point He makes and drives home again and again is that the Holy Spirit Job is to remind Us of the Father & Son, reminding us of all the things we should do, and convicting us when we sin, forget God, and do not love People. Of course to love others, even those who offend us badly, is only work we can do with the help of the Holy Spirit, he says so many funny things about people and great jokes or illustarations to make grand points. I find sayings like "Kissin don't matter, cookin do" hilarious but true. He says he is an Atheist until hes had his first cup of coffee. Pastoring and being in many churchs through-out his life time he said there was nothing wrong that he couldn't have fixed with a few funerals! Great stuff and if you were to uptight to laugh at those things he'd think you were neurotic. He concludes the book in the last three chapters showing us how to recognize the gifting of the holy spirit, defining what the gifts are so as to recognize them in ourselves, and others. Share the love he says, we are hear to bring glory to God by helping others, this was the most uncomfortable chapter because I fall short in this areas but he never makes you feel bad just more focused on Gods goodness and grace which is most essential in the life of the Christian. The last Chapter is a question and answer section which is good but not meaty, a bit surface level for an old timer like myself but still useful. I recommend this book, not terribly meaty but good for the soul.
