The Cowboy and the Angel

Rate this book
Reporter Angela McCallister needs the scoop of her career in order to save her father from the bad decisions that have depleted their savings. When the opportunity to spend a week at the Findley Brothers ranch arises, she sees a chance to get a behind-the-scenes scoop on rodeo. That certainly doesn't include kissing the devastatingly handsome and charming cowboy Derek Chandler, who insists on calling her "Angel."

Derek has a rodeo to run and a chip on his shoulder. He has no time for the fiery woman who is clearly hiding something. But for some reason he can't keep his hands off of her. Their connection is instant and explosive, but Angela's secrets could threaten his family, and Derek needs to prove that he's not the irresponsible kid brother anymore.

When the rodeo dust has settled, will the Cowboy and his Angel allow themselves to give in to the attraction that threatens to consume them both?

T.J. Kline has been making up stories since she was old enough to talk and put her first into book form when she was ten.

Since then, she has always loved a HEA and a good thriller. When life introduced her to horses and rodeos, she knew she'd found her calling writing contemporary small-town romances filled with love, drama and, of course, cowboys.

She currently lives in the foothills outside Yosemite National Park with the love of her life, adoring her three grown children from afar and enjoying her three horses, four dogs, five cats and a noisy bunch of hens.

I just recently discovered the author T.J. Kline and her Rodeo series. Book #2 The Cowboy and the Angel is truly a little gem of a book. Ms. Kline a former rodeo queen not only can write about rodeo life and ranching with authenticity but she also has an ability to create unique stories in a genre where too often the stories follow the same formulaic outline.
What I enjoyed about this book.
When we meet our heroine Angela McCallister a local television reporter struggling to move up from the fluff pieces she’s assigned by her boss, childhood friend and former lover Joe, to more hard hitting stories that will earn her the professional recognition to get a better job with more money so that she can afford to move herself and her alcoholic father out of her childhood home, the site of her mother’s tragic death she’s not a very likable figure. Ms. Kline in small pieces reveals what motivates Angela to behave the way she does, shows us the vulnerable, frightened woman underneath her tough, seemingly uncaring exterior. By the end of the book Kline had me like our hero Derek Chandler wanting to just wrap her in my arms and tell her everything would be alright.
We met Derek Chandler in the series first book Rodeo Queen. In that book he was an immature recent college graduate whose jealousy of his older brother Scott nearly causes tragic consequences. But even in that book where Derek spends much of his time acting like a cad, were given glimpses of Derek’s basic decency. As this book begins Derek is determined to make amends for his previous mistakes and be worthy of the forgiveness and trust his family has already bestowed upon him. Because now with a wife Sidney and baby daughter Kassie, Scott wants to stay close to his young family, Derek has taken over his role of running the family business at the rodeos. I truly enjoyed the way Ms. Kline had Derek walking an emotional tightrope between not wanting to allow Angela to destroy the family businesses reputation with a negative story on how his family treats their animals and not being able to ignore his desire to be her knight in shining armor rescuing her from the pain he can see behind her eyes. It was just pleasant to see that even early on Derek felt far more than lust for Angela.
I’ll admit that I found how Derek and Angela could be so close to one another both physically and emotionally one moment and then be so closed off the next confusing, but the story itself with all the barriers Derek and Angela had to cross to get to their HEA was extremely well done. Where in Rodeo Queen the biggest hurdle to Scott and Sidney’s HEA was Scott’s unreasonable lack of trust for Sydney and his feelings for her to the point of making you want to dislike Scott. In The Cowboy and the Angel there were more twists and turns to the plot line than I had expected that kept me turning the pages until the very end of the story. It was refreshing that it was Derek who always had to make the first move and it was Derek who said I love you first. Normally in these books it’s the heroine who acknowledges her feelings while the hero struggles to come to grips with his. Derek’s willingness to be the man Angela didn’t even know she needed with little encouragement from her really made him heroic in my book. And the epilogue was a sweet ending to the story.
What kept me from giving this book 5 stars
Ms. Kline has a habit of being too repetitive in her writing. Unless Angela spent most of her time looking at her feet I don’t know why every male character repeatedly felt the need to take her chin in their thumb and forefinger to lift her face to look at them before they spoke. I understand she wanted to express Angela’s physical attraction to Derek but it seemed like every time their lips or bodies came in contact with one another she described Angela’s physical reaction to the contact in the same way. And how many times did we have to read about Derek running his fingers through his hair and how he was the picture of male physical perfection?
We keep being told how Derek doesn’t want to fall for another pretty face as he did with Liz in Rodeo Queen. But if you’ve read Rodeo Queen you know that there was no physical attraction between Liz and Derek, only a mutual desire to see Scott and Sydney separated. So why did the author keep implying it was a physical attraction that had led Derek astray?
Angela’s father is a lifelong alcoholic. He was one before her mother’s death so why she thought it was guilt over her death that drove him to drink or why she thought just moving him from his existing surroundings was going to cure him made little sense. His nearly instant sobriety after decades of being a drunk, I thought sort of mocked how difficult a struggle it can be to overcome the disease.
I don’t know ranching or rodeoing like Ms. Kline but I do know a little about male physical development. In Rodeo Queen were constantly told that Derek is taller but not as physically developed as his more muscular older brother Scott. In this story, which takes place less than a year after the end of the first we’re supposed to believe that somehow just doing ranch work has put twenty more pounds of lean muscle on Derek than his brother has. So basically, he has added perhaps forty pounds of muscle over less than a year just by doing hard ranch work. The same sort of work his brother has been doing too. Not very believable I’m afraid.
The final confrontation. Sorry but this called for Derek whom we’ve constantly been reminded how big and strong he is, to cowboy up and kick some serious bad guy ass to avenge what was done to both himself and Angela. Not for him to be a punching bag and then threaten his lawyers on the bad guy as he drove away. That just seemed lame as did Scott and Clay allowing it to happen without rushing to his defense. A macho guy does not get knocked on his butt and then just threaten to call his lawyer.
I know some readers felt the one step forward two steps back development of Angela and Derek’s relationship, the fact that they didn’t get intimate until late in the book made this story drag. Myself, I felt the pacing was just right. And while Ms. Kline will throw some sex in her stories as expected in a modern adult romance her stories are not loaded with sex scenes so I wasn’t expecting to be inundated with scenes of Derek and Angela doing it like bunnies. As I said at the beginning, I found this to be a really nice little gem of a romance story.

The Cowboy and the Angel is my first story from T.J. Kline but will NOT be my last. I fell in love with Derek. Ahh those cowboys. This is connected to the Rodeo Queen but does NOT have to be read in order. I do plan to read RODEO QUEEN soon. The characters T.J. Kline has written are realistic and will quickly have you pulled into their lives. The story is fast paced, fun, sexy, and engaging. I did not want to put this book down. You hate to leave these characters when you turn the last page. I'm hopeful that T.J. Kline will write more books with these characters making an appearance. If you are looking a quick read, with great characters, an engaging and fun storyline, as well as a little steam, then THE COWBOY AND THE ANGEL is a perfect fit.Be warned there are a few teary-eyed heart racing moments and a few moments that made me wonder just what I'd do. Fans of contemporary romance, cowboys, rodeos, and great stories will want to pick up THE COWBOY AND THE ANGEL today. Highly Recommended!

Love it.

Cowboy and Angel. My favorite song. Man, Derek Chandler is arrogant, kind and hot. Angela is jaded, tough exterior to hide a tender side. Two of them are explosive. Read. Read. Read.

The pacing was slow and I really wasn't a fan of the premise. Reporter characters are probably one of my least favourite character professions, so I wasn't invested in the heroine's plot here. I ended up DNFing this one and unhauling.

Angela McAllister is a reporter. Her career is stymied by puff piece assignments. Her father is an alcoholic. Her mother was run over in the street and killed while running away from Anglea’s drunken father before Angela reached her teen years. Her mother was the only good thing in her life. Growing up with a drunken father resulted in years of embarrassment and pain, and it stunted her emotional development so she finds it impossible to trust others. Bailing him out of jail and paying fines for his drunkenness has devastated her finances. She believes that if she can get one good story, it will propel her into the big time of journalism and allow her to move her farther out of the house they shared with her mother before she was killed. She believes her father’s drunkenness comes from the memories of his wife’s death that are stimulated by living in the house, and that once she moves him out of the house, he will be able to overcome his alcoholism. Somehow she has missed the fact that he was an alcoholic before her mother died. The big story finally comes. She gets the assignment to expose animal cruelty in the rodeo. When she thinks about the possibility that she might not find cruelty to expose, she knows she can massage the story enough to make it seem true. She is set on doing this story; it is her ticket to the big time. So, she knows from the moment she meets Derek that she is going to destroy him and his family, no matter what – she will do it for her father, who has been an albatross around her neck all her life and, at a level, is responsible for her mother’s death.

Derek Chandler has a past of irresponsibility that at one time nearly put the family business, providing animals for rodeos, out of business. After years of working to come back, Derek is being given one last chance to prove himself to the family and show he is responsible enough to take a leading role in the business. When he hears that a journalist is going to do a story about the rodeo, he knows (God only knows how) that the story will be used to destroy the family business. So, for him, Angela is the enemy of everything he is trying to prove to his family.

For Angela and Derek it is lust at first sight. The story goes like this; they see each other, they each think about the reasons they should not get together, their lust takes over so they can’t keep their hands off each other, as they kiss and caress, their bodies tingle from head to foot, Derek is uncomfortable about a rising body part cramped in a small space and Angela can feel it through his blue jeans. Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, on and on as they meet on purpose or run into each other all over the rodeo and the ranch. Whenever Derek needs to get Angela’s attention, he grabs her chin in his hand, which to me seems like the way you handle a child or an animal. After the tingly stuff repeats itself for about a hundred pages, it becomes quite tedious. In fact, when they finally do break down, somewhere around 200 pages in, and go all the way, it’s like, “ho hum – there they go again.” In fact, the only way you are sure they are consummating their wild tryst is when Derek reaches in his wallet to get a condom.

After about 200 pages of this monotony, a plot emerges, and it’s a pretty good story for about 70 or 80 pages. Somewhere in all this lusting, they have fallen in love, and that changes everything for both of them. I give it two stars for the interesting short story that was tacked onto the boring beginning and middle.

Angela's career as a reporter certainly isn't turning out the way she thought it would. Tired of doing fluff pieces and playing in the boys' club that is reporting, she needs to turn things around fast if she's to have any chance of surviving financially. She's heard about abuse and mistreatment of rodeo animals, and she hopes an exposé on the darker side of rodeo will be her ticket to a better life for her and her alcoholic father who needs so much help. But she doesn't count on the rodeo family she meets being so nice, or the station pressuring her for facts she can't find, or the ridiculously sexy cowboy she can't seem to stay away from.

The Verdict: Angela initially comes across as selfish and cold, but it soon becomes clear that her tough-as-nails persona is merely a façade to get her through the daily struggle that is her life. With her career stagnating, pressure from the station, and a father who has always been too deep in the bottle to be a real parent, she makes it look like she's got it all together while life keeps knocking her down.

Derek is tired of being seen as the irresponsible one, but while the family around him seems to get everything right, he can't figure out where he fits in. They don't really trust him to make the right decisions, and he just wants a chance to prove himself. The last thing he wants is a relationship, especially with a reporter who only appeared in his life to show the world that his family's business is tainted. He has more than enough mistakes to make up for, and the pretty reporter is a distraction he doesn't need.

On the surface, Derek and Angela are complete opposites. He's country to her city, manual labor to her office job, pickup truck to her compact car. But inside, they are very much the same, both trying to prove to themselves and those around them that they're more than mistakes and bad luck. And that is where the conflict comes in. Their attraction to each other can't be denied, but Angela's career depends on her smearing Derek's family business, and while she doesn't want to report controversy where there is none, audiences just aren't interested in another feel-good story. Keeping her father in line is an issue as well, especially since the family she's profiling is everything she thinks a family should be. While she's bailing her dad out of the drunk tank, they're all working together, sitting down to family meals, supporting each other in any way that's needed. It would be easy to lose herself in their contentment, but her old, falling-apart life is just over the horizon.

As I've come to expect in this series, the characters are multifaceted with complex backgrounds and struggles. The family dynamic is great, and when things heat up between Angela and Derek, they're not the only ones affected. It may sound like your standard opposites-attract scenario, but The Cowboy and the Angel is so much more, with strong emotions, outside obstacles, and personal challenges for both characters. With definite heat between them and the always dependable family around then, Angela and Derek's love story is a wonderfully entertaining read.

4 Stars!!!

I am an absolute lover of Cowboys especially hot cowboys in books. Derek is one hot Cowboy.

Derek is a Rodeo Stock Contractor that has some heartbreak baggage and does not want another woman to use him. Angela is an overwhelmed, broken woman. She is out for advancement in her career not a relationship. Derek and Angela meet after Angela’s attention has been drawn to a story regarding animal abuse in Rodeos. Angela is determined to find Findley Brothers guilty of all charges before she has even met them. Derek is drawn to Angela right away and the chemistry begins to sizzle from the first chapter. Will Angel and Derek find the strength to put their bitter pasts behind and move forward together? Read it to find out.

I loved the simmering sexual tension between the couple. You feel it through the entire book. This book is so informative about the Rodeo and how the animals are handled. Whether you are a newbie to the Rodeo world or an expert you will find the information in this book informative. I love how this book gives you insight on how the Rodeo family is. Rodeo is still a small world and everyone that has been around it quite a while is just like a big family. Family values are very important in the Rodeo/Cowboy world. You really feel that in this book.

This book will give you and emotional heart attack. The angst is very high. You want to shout at both of the characters to WAKE UP and smell the coffee that is love. This is good writing if it can provoke you in this manner. You heart will break for Angela and her relationship with her Dad. This book will make you swoon, laugh and well up with tears.

Why the 4 stars instead of 5? I did feel things could have come together just a tad quicker between Derek and Angela and it still would have been a perfect story. It drug for just a minute, but only a quick minute. When it picked back up it went forward in a hurry. There were a couple of twists and turns at the end that made up for it all! The story was very well written and easy to follow. I loved the descriptiveness of it.

I did not read the first book Rodeo Queen and felt as though I missed nothing. I will say though I am going to read Rodeo Queen just to learn more about Scott and Sydney. I like them both, as well as, the other secondary characters.

This is my first T.J. Kline book and will not be my last. I would recommend this book to all.

My Favorite Quotes:

“Just like a cowboy,” she scoffed, “eight seconds and you’re done.”

He focused on helping a rider onto the back of his mount, away from danger, and then setting him safely on his feet again. He didn’t realize it, but he was doing the same for her.

“Good God, Angel. I have never wanted a woman the way I want you.”

“You’re like heaven… my angel.”

“Cowboy, you were the best story I never reported,” she teased.

“Angel, if it hadn’t been for you, I’d still be trying to live up to a phantom image of who I thought I needed to be. Because of you, I know the man I am is enough.”

“You gave me back my hope, Derek.” “You are my hope, Angel. Everything I ever hoped for and more.”

When I first started reading this novel, I didn't think that I was going to like it. As hot as I find the idea of muscled, hard-working cowboys, this isn't really a branch of Contemporary Romance that I usually seek out. Within the first couple of chapters, the heroine, Angela McCallister just wasn't drawing me in. She came off as a frosty elitist who seemed to think incredibly highly of herself and was willing to stomp on anyone and everyone on her way to the top. As I continued to read, I, like the novel's hero, the charming, family-oriented, Derek, learned to scrape the surface of Angela's chilly exterior to find the motivation for her actions.

Angela, who is incredibly guarded and fearful of opening herself up to the possibility of love, has been supporting her alcoholic father since her youth and has no one to rely on. She keeps others from getting too close to her so that she can hide the dirty secrets of her childhood and maintain a strong facade in the journalistic world. The more the author revealed Angela's fears and insecurities, the more I could relate to her, and the more I thought her worthy of the sweet and loyal hero.

As Derek and Angela learn to trust each other, they find the pieces of themselves they thought lacking. Derek, who is constantly putting his family first in order to compensate for past mistakes, learns that he isn't the same screw-up he once was. With Derek's help, Angela learns to share the burdens she's carried since her mother's death, and the walls that have always kept her isolated come tumbling down.

Allowing yourself to trust others with your heart is an arduous task, rife with fear and risk, one the author explores fully. Kline really delves into the psychological and emotion depths of these characters without losing my interest by becoming overly analytic. I love it when novels make you think about your own motivations and fears, when you find little pieces of yourself in the characters you grow to love. It's truly a beautiful thing and the mark of a fine author.

By the end of the novel, T.J. Kline had me wanting more of Derek and Angela and her rodeo world. Derek and Angela have witty, flirty moments which only enhance the novel's love scenes. There's also a wonderful balance between their feisty repartees and their more tender, romantic moments.

On a side note, can I just say that I absolutely LOVE this cover art. It's sexy without being over-the-top or cringe-worthy and the composition is just on point.

The Cowboy and The Angel was my first novel by T.J. Kline but now I definitely want to read Rodeo Queen, her first novel in the series (Sydney and Scott's story). I just might have to start exploring the cowboy genre a bit more. Who knows what I've been missing out on.

How a Supremely Talented Author Turns the Ordinary into the Extraordinary

Reporter Angela McCallister needs a huge break-out story; her father is an incurable alcoholic and she needs the money to take care of him. She’s investigating rodeos because of all the rumoured animal abuse, and her enquiries lead her to the Findley Brothers ranch. She is given a polite but frosty welcome; their livelihood is at stake and she could destroy it all. Derek Chandler runs a rodeo and is definitely not pleased to see a reporter on the premises. Angela doesn’t seem to care about anything but her story, but he suspects there might be reasons as to why she’s so business-minded and cold. They are attracted to each other; if only the circumstances were different.

When I started THE COWBOY AND THE ANGEL, I thought it would be my usual bedtime type of book where I read a few pages and am nicely lulled to sleep: a nice, light contemporary romance novel where everything follows the usual script and nothing to keep me awake. What a treacherous author Ms. Kline is! The story seems simple enough: baddish-girl meets goodish-boy; I was expecting the usual: insta-lust, sex early in the story, misunderstandings due to a lack of communication, foot-stomping and huffing and puffing, pouting or variations thereof. It is indeed a common trope, but in THE COWBOY AND THE ANGEL, the characters don’t jump to conclusions; they actually talk to each other and listen. The attraction is definitely there, they do try to fight it because their respective object of lust is in a way the enemy, but instead of doing inane things, they wait and see, they try to approach the situation with an open mind. Like real people, they take things slowly and try to find if they can make it work and what options might be open to them. They do not sleep together quickly and then regret it, or forget they have conflicting interests and hope that the writing gods can help wrap thing up neatly, and that the ending isn’t too far-fetched.

THE COWBOY AND THE ANGEL is one of the most compelling books I have recently read because the situations are handled intelligently. Angela and Derek are very interesting, multifaceted and complex characters; and little by little they bare their soul to the other, they try to understand each other’s point of view. Ms. Kline is such an exceptional writer that this contemporary romance had me turning pages as if it were a thriller. She is so gifted that simple conversations about ordinary things become enthralling; I don’t think I’ve ever read any author who could manage that.
THE COWBOY AND THE ANGEL is the second instalment in the Rodeo series but it can easily be read as a standalone, and it was an extremely pleasant surprise; an excellent book!

TJ Kline ropes you back into the world of Rodeo with the second installment in this series. We welcome back all the feisty characters from before. Mike is still the meddling matchmaker, only this time his sights are set on Derek. Derek, the baby, never cared for the responsibility needed to help with the family business. That is until all the shenanigans during Scott and Sydney's adventures led him to 'cowboy up.' Derek has his mind on ONE thing - protecting his family and not letting them down again.

That is until Angela walks into his rodeo. She is full of fire and ice, and he can't stay away. "You might want to pucker up, cowboy, because the next time you see me, you can kiss it." Luckily, once the rodeo is over - he won't ever have to see Angel again. Our favorite matchmaker, Mike, has different plans. In order to protect the family and the sport, he invites her to spend a week with them at the Ranch. "While she was certain anyone could see the fury in her eyes, Derek remained as maddeningly unperturbed as ever, with his thumbs hooked in the front of his chaps and giving her that cocky, playboy grin of his. He was so confident he cold win this argument. It took every ounce of self-control to keep herself from smacking him."

I loved the second glance into this family. Scott is the same reserved cowboy you met in the last book, except when it comes to Kassie and Sydney. Heart-melting is the only way to describe how big of a softie he is around Kassie. Derek on the other hand isn't the same lanky kid you met last time. "...he seemed to have muscles upon muscles." I got as frustrated as Mike, Scott and everyone else as the two of them fought what everyone could see. This installment was filled with so much. You get your HEA mixed with some blackmailing, untimely deaths, a lost (but found) finger, daddy issues and so much more. With all this going on under one cover, you would think it would have trouble flowing - but Tina amazed me with the fluidity she did it with. Angela has a past and a present that she thinks will prevent her of ever having a future, and she built walls all around her heart to ensure that she doesn't get hurt. "Trust me, cowboy, this isn't a book you want to read."

The heat between these two is off the charts, and yet leaves you wanting more. They both want to protect their families that they aren't concerned with what is right under their noses. Once they give it ONE DAY, there is no denying that is transpiring between this city girl and her cowboy. "I'd like you to stay," he clarified. " I think I love you."

Angela thinks she has found a story that will get her career to take off and help her father. His drinking has caused problems all her life and wiped out her money. She goes to the Findley Brothers ranch to get a look see at what really goes on behind the scenes and how the animals are really treated. While she goes in with one set one mind she soon sees these people are nothing like what she thought. Especially cowboy Derek Chandler. Derek isn't looking for romance and the woman who has come to do a story is definitely on his don't touch list. He has some stuff to make up for and she isn't helping him stay on track. While they may seem like total opposites they can't deny they have feelings for each other and can't keep their hands off each other. Someone doesn't want these two to find happiness and will do anything to keep them from being together.

Angela has huge walls built around her. She had a bad childhood and it has marked her. She doesn't trust people and she doesn't let people in. She will do anything she can to help her father. She isn't one who gives up easy. Derek has made a few mistakes in his past and is trying to make them up. he wants to do anything he can to help the family business. He is a very hard worker who cares for his family and his animals. He wants what his family has found and that is someone special to share his life with.

I love a rodeo and this story gives you a glimpse of what life on the inside is like. I enjoyed all the characters but one. Joe I hated and wanted to see get stomped on by a bull but when you read it you will see why. Angela and Derek have a spark between them as soon as they meet. They don't trust each other and have to learn to do so. Angela learns what the rodeo is really like and learns it is ok to let people in. I loved seeing her come around and loosen up. She has a few socks she has to deal with as well. Derek is awesome he jumps in to help with her father and really his whole family does. I loved reading about all of them. There is heat, love, family, twist and turns to make this a fascinating book to read. If you love a hot cowboy you will definitely love this one.

The Cowboy and the Angel is T. J. Kline's second novel in the Rodeo series. In this book, we get to know Derek and Angela. Derek is Scott's brother from the book Rodeo Queen and Angela is a news reporter trying to get her big break. Angela gets a call about a rodeo coming to town and how it's filled with animal abuse and cruelty. Her boss, who happens to be her oldest friend and ex boyfriend, gives her two weeks to come up with a story. Derek doesn't want to let his family down again, so when Angela does her best to flirt her way into an interview, he turns her flat down. Mike is a different story...he's the matchmaker, so of course he grants Angela permission for an interview. But not only an interview, he allows her to stay at their ranch so she can get a first account of how the animals are actually treated.

My first impression of Angela, wasn't a very good one. I thought she was ice cold and didn't care about anything besides her story. I am thrilled to report, she isn't really like this. In fact, she is a very lovable character but she has plenty of heartache in her background, that makes her guard her heart. Derek and Angela have so much sexual tension going on that's it's palpable to anyone in there vicinity. But when Joe, Angela's boss, see's that she's falling for Derek, he takes matters into his own jealous hands and causes some trouble.

Derek is such a sweet cowboy ,who is completely taken with Angela from the very beginning. My favorite quote Derek expresses, is when he tells Angela, "Angel, if it hadn't been for you, I'd still be trying to live up to a phantom image of who I thought I needed to be. Because of you, I know the man I am is enough." "You make me enough" I can see why Angela falls in love with him, it would be an easy task. Derek is the type of cowboy that women dream of. T.J. Kline did an excellent job pouring her heart into these stories and I will definitely be on the look out for the next book in this series.

The Cowboy and the Angel by T. J. Kline
Hot cowboys, rodeo, strong family values, and did I mention HOT cowboys. This book has it all; T.J. Kline has a talent with details that was incredible. She grew up in the rodeo life so was able to bring her knowledge to the story making it even more realistic. In this second book in her story of the Chandler family, we get to know more about Derek Chandler. I have not read T.J.’s First book Rodeo Queen but have full intentions of buying it.
Derek Chandler has made mistakes in his past he feels he has to overcome to prove to his family he can step up and be the man he was raised to be. He has taken more responsibility in the family rodeo business and works hard to stifle his more spirited side. That is until a nosy reporter hell bent on finding a story to ruin his family shows up.
Angela McCallister has lived her life to achieve one goal-to escape. She has to get a great story in order for her to achieve this however. He boss and longtime friend can only seem to get her stories that are light and fluffy; these won’t get her out of the town that is killing her and her father. She needs something more controversial, something that gets ratings. An anonymous tip leads her to the Findley Brothers, the ones in charge of stock for rodeos. She hopes to find the animals being mistreated and a villain for her story. What she finds is a loving family that shows her what she has been missing, and the women she was meant to be.
This may sound like a cut and dry girls and guy find love but trust me it’s not. There are obstacles and personal challenges that threaten to keep Derek and Angela apart at every turn. They take two steps forward and ten backward, their desire is hard to stifle but mistrust is harder to overcome. T.J. kept me reading, needing to know how the book ended. You will love her style and voice as you plunge into the world of rodeo. On Sale Now!

i just finished this book it was super sweet. it makes your just want to go out and find yourself a cowboy to ... hug!

This is book 2 but its a standalone book.

Angela is a reporter that wants more then the cute story, she needs more. she has a father that has a drinking problem and she is always bailing him out of jail a couple of times a month. Angela is running out of money fast. Angela needs a big news story so she can make more money to get her father the help he needs. when day at the office she gets a called about animal abuse at Rodeos. she talks her boss ( who happens to be her ex) into letting her go check it out. Thats when Angela meet her cowboy!
Cowboy Derek, is the youngest of 3. he has not been the most responsible person in the family in the past. He has made some big mistakes and he sure as heck does not want to make and more.He finally has shown his family that he can be the man they need him to be, but when he see a petite red head jumping from a news van wearing what he can only imagine is what a city girl would think to wear as a cowgirl.he starts to question himself all over again!
Both Derek and Angela hold deep dark secrets, and its not easy for either of them to trust, but if they don't start trusting soon they are both going to lose more then they ever thought was possible.

I really enjoyed this book, i loved the hot hunkie cowboys with all its gorily!! yummy! and i think the author did a great job with keeping the story going... she even through in a few surprises the shocked me even! so i would recommend this book for anyone loves a sweet cowboy romance and hot sweaty half naked man!
I would rate this 17 + some sex but not graphic and it was done very well!
I would rate this 4 out 5 fangs!

Angela McAllister is a reporter needing a big story to help her father from going further downhill after her mother’s death when she was eight. Constantly bailing him out of jail for drinking, she has no more money at her disposal and cannot afford her next month rent.

She finds the opportunity to spend time on a ranch researching animal cruelty on the rodeo circuit knowing the sensation the story could bring but it would hurt the people who owe the ranch. Angela keeps looking for a story that might not exist but would help her career.

Her initial run in with one of the owners Derek Chandler a charming cowboy is explosive. As they spend more time they fight their attraction. Derek is out to prove himself that he can run the rodeo operations after his reckless past and he vows to protect the rodeo and ranch.

As the two collide will each survive with their own secrets? Can Angela learn to trust and love again and let Derek in her life? Will Derek be able to break her walls as he tries to keep his hands off her.

A sweet romance as we root for them despite the obstacles in their way.

Wow! What a story! I couldn't put it down (even if it was 3am)! This book had me griped from the get go.

I normally don't like abrasive, bitchy leading ladies, but you quickly learn that the ice queen personality Angela portraits is a facade and beneath is a broken child. Derek on the other hand is still trying to prove himself to the family, still trying to prove that he won’t be taken in by a pretty face. So he is tough on Angela and takes her at face value, but all it takes is one little crack and Derek realizes his mistake. I am going to leave it there as I don't want to spoil the story.

What I will say is that the characters are fantastic! Sidney is by far my favorite (her story is Rodeo Queen), her understanding nature and quick wit had me chuckling. The writing is very smooth, no choppiness to it at all. As I said before, within the first chapter I was gripped to the story, it made he laugh cry and say a few choice words at points (you'll know them when you get to them!J)

I give The Cowboy and The Angel 9 out of 10. It is a sweet, captivating rough and tumble romance that leaves you gasping for more

Angela decides to do some investigating on a ranch to have a breakout story to help raise the money to take care of her father. She meets Derek Chandler, who runs a rodeo, and the pair immediately have chemistry, despite the fact that he isn’t interested in a relationship and certainly not with a reporter. Will they give in and find love?

This is the only book I’ve ever read by T.J. Kline. I’m not really into cowboy stories, but this one took me by surprise. There was a lot of back and forth with them that kind of drove me crazy, but I liked this guy and the fact that these characters actually communicated with each other. I was surprised by the switch, where she’s kind of a bad girl and he’s a good guy. If you like cowboy stories, you’ll probably enjoy The Cowboy and the Angel by T.J. Kline.

This is book two in the rodeo series. I loved Sydney's and Scott's story in book 1 and Angela and Derek's was just as good. Love Mike's matchmaking skills..lol..these characters are great. Totally sexy and sweet together but Angie is living in the past with her broken relationship with her father, Derek needs to man up and be responsible for his part of his families business. I loved their flirting and teasing but I loved that they are sexy and loving together too. Love the closeness of Derek's family and Angie trying with her father. Great story, very emotional (in a good way) very sweet and loving too. I wanted to slap Joe that creepy jerk. 4 stars, would love to read more by this author and in this series. “…I can’t give in to anything that will jeopardize this family, not again. Unfortunately, right now, that includes you.”

The Cowboy and the Angel is a sexy, emotional western romance that kept me interested from page one.

There were a lot of layers to this story by T.J. Kline as our hunky hero and sassy heroine dealt with regrets from their past with regard their family. Derek and Angie found out they had a lot of similarities when it came to emotional baggage which I thought was an intriguing connection between them.

I knew Derek would turn into a delicious Cowboy :) Angela totally could fight a whole lot longer than I could if I felt that attraction lol. I'm totally in love with this family and hope to read more of them.

Aw. How sweet.

A nice sweet romance following a typical plot line. Well written with well done characters. I did find Angela a bit overdone, and at times wanted to slap her. But that's normal for these books.

I hated the heroine - for most of the book there was not one thing I liked about her. The hero, on the other hand was worth the time I spent with him. Over all this book just wasn't for me, Ymmv.
