I had the absolute pleasure of getting to read this book in the early stages and watch it take shape. The story starts out with a description and history of the people who inhabit Henderson Manor years before the new tenants move in and become embroiled in a story of murder. We start the book learning about Sam and Jenny. Two best friends who share a flat. Sam is an actor and Jenny is very protective of him after a 'bad experience' with a woman he thought loved him but turned out to be an obsessive fan.

Eventually Sam meets Deborah and life seems to be going in the right direction until all these strange, unexplained happenings begin to take place in Sam and Jenny's flat.

A body is found and in come Lang and Preston. The police have a murder to investigate and the victim is tied to quite a few characters in the book. The classic 'whodunnit' and believe me, when the story unfolds it will leave your head spinning!

We are reintroduced to Patrick and Jodie, the 'psychics' and where the story really begins to take a turn. What I loved about this book is just when I thought I had figured everything out...well I hadn't! There are so many 'wow' moments that I was gripped and spent two nights up into the wee hours as I could not put this book down.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a bit of romance, murder, mystery, and a phenomenal twist at the end!

Jenny, Sarah, Deborah, Claire and Sam. It is around these characters that author Emma L. Clapperton weaves her latest paranormal novel. As with ‘Beyond Evidence’ by the same author, ‘Henderson Manor’ features psychic Patrick McLaughlin and his wife Jodie and is jam-packed with emotions such as jealousy, lust, hatred and love as well as murder and mystery.

Sam Leonard is a very handsome and successful young actor. He lives with his best friend Jenny Lawson. Having seen Sam going through some bitter experiences in his relationship and consequent separation from his former girlfriend Sarah, Jenny feels quite protective of her friend and she does not want him to suffer anymore. This overprotection however creates problems for Sam when he interacts with other females.

Deborah Bell is obsessed with Sam Leonard. She has been following his acting career on television and theatres for a long time. She always knows what his next project would be and where he will perform next and always makes sure to be present wherever he is. One night she approaches him in a bar. Sam finds her quite pretty and interesting and after a few drinks they end up at his flat. Soon they start a relationship (always with Jenny close by). Sam feels complete again and cannot be happier. What could go wrong?

A young woman living alone is found dead at her house. DS Preston and DC Lang are called in to investigate. With nothing suspicious, her death is considered accidental. But was that really the case?

Patrick and Jodie McLaughlin’s life couldn’t be better. With a baby on the way they have found a new house at an incredible price. Its last owner had died suddenly without leaving a will. The house is in fact a huge old manor with a long history. It is complete with a family burial place at the back where members of the Henderson family who have owned the house for many generations are buried.

As the McLaughlins start to settle in their new home, Patrick begins to see visions and hear voices. The dead seem to want something from him, but he does not understand what. Henderson Manor will soon become the place where several people’s lives and deaths meet and clash.

In the end, I highly recommend this book as although I am not such a big fan of paranormal novels, I really loved it and practically devoured it right up to its breath taking finale. Ms. Clapperton Well Done!!

Supernatural twists and turns

Excellent second book from Emma L Clapperton featuring medium Patrick McLaughlin and his wife, Jodie. In a strange twist of fate he finds himself back in the thick of things with Detectives Lang and Preston following the discovery of Sarah Henderson's body at the bottom of the staircase in Henderson Manor.
A great book with twists and turns throughout that keep you guessing. Freaked me out a little especially when I was in the house by myself!

This novel is a great concept - mixing history, the paranormal, obsession, the complexities of relationships, and mystery. It's really pushes your expectations to the limits and is full of the twists and turns I have now come to expect from this author. Even if the paranormal is not your thing I think this really is a must-read.

Henderson Manor had me on the edge of my seat on every page. Spooky, thrilling, and also great at showing the closeness of the families involved and the deviousness of someone in particular. Loved this. Please give it a try, you'll love it too.

Patrick and Jodie McLaughlin have just bought their family home as baby Lucas is close to being born. They both could see the potential of the old family home and were happy to settle there. Until the essence of the house changed.

Charismatic actor Sam Leonard has his fair share of female attention, but after a play, he met Deborah at the theatre bar after a performance. Little did he know, but Deborah wasn't who he thought she was and it was no chance meeting. He falls for her quickly and introduces him to his flatmate Jenny. They had been friends for years with no romantic attachment.

His previous girlfriend, Zoe, is found dead at her family home and it looks as if she fell down the stairs and that is what killed her. The breakup with Sam did not go well and she began stalking him. The police are involved after her death, in working out the sequence of events. Partners D S Preston and D C Lang are not able to shed any light as to why young women died after falling downstairs. They have worked together for years and Preston is just months off retirement. He is looking forward to spending time with his daughters and wife.

Whilst Sam and Deborah begin to spend more time together, she does not feel that Jenny is uninterested in Sam. Who is now making strange things happen? Pictures falling off the wall and other spooky going on. Sam is frightened and this is where his path crosses with Patrick. As a psychic, who bought Zoe's house, becomes embroiled in trying to work out what is happening. Do you believe in ghosts and is Zoe trying to say something?

This well-written thriller keeps you guessing from one chapter to the next. Emma L Chapperton is an author to watch as her second book in this series shows great talent.

After reading Emma Clapperton's first novel, it took me some time to come round reading Henderson Manor. I was actually pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the book. Great story lines and characters, kept me hooked. I also liked the fast pace to Henderson Manor, there was no messing around.

I would say that I would like a better description of the characters though. :)

I’m not a fan of the ‘psychic type’ books but Emma Clapperton’s first book made me re-think that statement. Having read about and got to know Patrick McLaughlin I was quite looking forward to this next book. The intro of the book is interesting and immediately caught my attention. We meet Sam Leonard who is a successful actor and he meets his soon to be girlfriend, Deborah. His life seems extremely good with a new girlfriend in tow and his best friend Jenny around, until a previous relationship comes back to haunt him.

In addition to Sam, Jenny and Deborah we also meet up with DS Preston and DC Lang again. They’re called in to investigate the suspected death of a young girl found living alone in her house. Whilst Preston and Lang are busy doing their jobs, we also meet up with Patrick and his wife Jodie. Life is looking up for Patrick and with a baby on the way their move to a new house looks to be a fresh start.

I really liked the characters of Sam, Jenny and Deborah and they added what almost felt like a separate element to the story. However, as the story progresses all the characters involved become intertwined and things start to spiral rapidly. In her first book I really liked Patrick and Jodie, and although it takes at least a third of the book before we see them it feels like I was greeting old friends again. Like I said I’m not a terribly huge fan of the paranormal but Emma Clapperton has managed to tell this story without the psychic side going too far so it becomes ridiculous. It’s believable and in particular this book seemed quite a bit more exciting than the last.

The nicest thing about this book was the ending. Although I fear this may be the end for Patrick and Jodie, the plot twist thrown in at the end was a corker and it leaves you wanting to read more about the couple. This certainly grabbed my attention and I got through it in pretty quick time. It was well paced and didn’t let up right until the last page. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to see what EC produces next.

(Synopsis taken from Goodreads)
Preston and Lang investigating the death of a young girl in an old Manor house in Glasgow gets their minds ticking. Who would want to kill an innocent girl in her own home and why? They believe their questions have been answered and the case is closed.
Sam Leonard could not be happier, he has an amazing acting career, an loyal best friend and a fantastic girlfriend and after a previous turbulent relationship, what could go wrong?
Patrick McLaughlin’s life is going well. His marriage is stable and with a baby on the way, things can only get better.
But a house that Patrick buys is not all it seems. With a family burial plot in the gardens, visions and messages from the deceased and a fairly recent death in the house, will Patrick and Jodie regret their purchase?

So many lives converge to make this wonderful supernatural mystery.
Every character is written perfectly into a scene to keep the reader guessing at all times. I must admit it had me changing my mind about the culprit.
Every clue is included into a very clever descriptive and yet I wondered how the author managed to entwine so many theories into this story.
The supernatural element of this story in no way overpowers what is essentially a murder mystery, they are a welcome source of suspense. I was eagerly hoping that they would divulge the answer to who the culprit was but yet I loved how they equally kept me guessing.
There are moments that had my heart pounding in anticipation of what was about to happen, I found myself trying not to shout at characters during a particular scene on a bridge.
I loved how involved I was able to feel involved in solving this mystery. I was completely drawn in.
This is a wonderful book with the perfect balance of intrigue and plot twists alongside some scary moments, I definitely think it has movie potential.
I wasn’t aware of a previous novel about Patrick’s work when I started writing this review but I am definitely adding it to my list now that I am.

Warning: may contain spoilers. The second book from a promising author. I enjoyed the book and still enjoy her main characters but was a bit disappointed that the character of Jodie was a bit sidelined and the emphasis seemed to be on the main characters trying to avoid or leave the paranormal elements out of their lives. I liked that the author kept a similar format but felt the character chemistry wasn't as good in this book. Still a good read though.
