An old homeless man is found lying in the gutter, dead from old age. They discover that he was once the World War II superhero called Flag-waver. Daniel Urich, a wealthy retired superhero, wants to make sure nothing like this happens to the currently active superheroes and finds a way to help them. But a threat from the past comes to the present and now this loosely gathered team of heroes must stand up to it. If you are a fan of the Silver Age or Bronze Age of comic books, then this is a novel for you.

About the author

Rick L. Phillips was born in Covington, Kentucky. He recieved a BA in Radio, Television and Film production from Northern Kentucky University. He is an announcer and voice actor and his agent is the Heyman Talent Agency in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. His first professional story was a short story titled "War Between Two Worlds" published in the book "It's That Time Again Volume 3". It was edited by the late, great writer and editor Jim Harmon. His next book that was published was a children's book. It was his creation called "Dinky the Elf". It was with that book he was compared to Dr. Seuss.
Rick was raised in a Christian family. Both parents were Sunday School Teachers and his Father was a Deacon in his church. Rick accepted Christ into his heart when he was 9 years old. He was a Sunday School Teacher in his home church of Elsmere Baptist for 3 years and was active in the church choir and has sang solos and as part of a group at other churches. He later moved his membership to Erlanger Baptist Church. There he continues as a member of that church's choir and is a Deacon in the church. He lives in Erlanger with his wife Violet.

I enjoyed this book, which is the first I have read from this Author. As someone who has enjoyed Super-Heroes and Comics for over 40 years, my curiosity was raised when I read about it.

In some ways, I would say this book captures the fun of the Golden Age and Silver Age - both of which still had their dangers and their villainy - but isn't as "gritty" or "depressing" as some modern Super-Heroes can be. I would happily recommend this to older Primary School and Teenagers to read. I also think it would make a pretty cool Graphic Novel.

Whilst it took me a little while to get into it properly, I then found I that I got quite involved in the story - and this brings me to my main complaint - it was too short - and perhaps this fits in with the Graphic Novel mentioned above. I was left wanting to know more about the characters that I was just starting to get to know - so hopefully the Author does supply a sequel or two :)

This is a great book for those who like comics and superhero's. Original and fun story line will keep you entertained. I would highly recommend this one to all YA, comic and super hero fans.

The story was very well done. It was told from a unique perspective, The heroes have unique names that in some cases don't give away their abilities. The story is told with great detail and not filled with useless information that has nothing to do with the plot. The characters are developed well but not everything is told so more can be uncovred in future books. Everything is kept in balance and developed very well.
