If you like Law and Order (the TV show) you will probably like this book. I enjoyed it. It is about a lawyer whom the court appoints to defend a murderer. He was young, inexperienced, and had not even been working in criminal law. The twist is that this took place in a Texas town in the late '50s and deals with Texas law at the time as well as the good ole boys club. The story begins with the crime, takes you through the picking of the jury process, the trial, and the verdict. There were things that seemed a little unreal and a little disconnected in process, but I did enjoy reading the strategies of a trial.
