Night Shitf

Rate this book
Moses is a lonely fifty-one-year-old hospital orderly, wasting his genius in an urban hospital. He gave up long ago on his hopes and dreams, and now walks the long corridors as he deals with doctors from hell, cynical nurses and annoying patients. Tonight, one bizarre graveyard shift changes that forever. After he loses (literally) a patient’s leg and saves the life of another, he gets a single opportunity to restart his life. Confessing his secret love to a worn-out nurse who was once Miss Congeniality, seems like a good place to start.

I really thought this was a fun book. I loved the Mr. Fine had a page that was illustrated regarding the character. It was so funny, you could get a real quick idea who we were dealing with. It was set in around a hospital in Israel. I just downloaded it yesterday and I'm glad I read it.

Unbelievable

So this story has to do with the inner workings of a hospital in Tel Aviv on one particular night. The story seems so preposterous that there's no way it actually happened, even though it states it is a true story. The ending is what makes you doubt the story but then we've all seen or have had a day like these orderlies and nurses had that one particular night in Tel Aviv.

Very boring

This book reads like a rough draft. I am not interested in wasting my time on anything else by this author.

Funny

This lives up to the billing of a romantic comedy, I have a couple Dr friends and it’s pretty believable after talking to them.

In one of the main lists sent to my from OHFB, I noticed this book and thought the description sounded interesting. Having stayed one too many nights in a eerily quiet hospital while family were being treated, it was a treat to read something on the craziness that went on behind the curtains. Now, I'm not saying that the story within this book was a truthful account. I did suspect that there's a kernel of truth in there somewhere.

The central character of the story was an orderly named Moses. He'd worked for this particular hospital for over two decades and knew all there was to know about the hospital and the people therein. While the book did follow him on this crazy night in the hospital, the author introduced a number of characters that worked within the hospital as well as some patients who had a definite impact on the story. One of the interesting things I noticed in the book were the little illustrations just after the new character was introduced. Not only did it give us an inkling what the person looked like, but the description also gave us the gossip about him or her. It helped to get to know the personalities of the characters a little better.

For me, the flow of the story was a little weird at first. It seemed the story was playing out in real-time at the beginning, but then it slipped into the past to show the timeline of events to the present situation. It would have small sections of action in different parts of the hospital within the same chapter. These were separated by a small notation. I missed those a few times and had to reread the passages in order to figure it out. However, the pacing of the story moved steadily toward the conclusion while building up the laughs and suspense. Once we reach the end of the night, the events rejoined the tale at the beginning and went from that point forward into a hilarious ending. I just feel sorry for that roll-on!

Overall, this was a fairly short but complete book. It did have a number of interesting characters, both working in the facility and those needing the treatment. I was a little upset with one of the characters who seemed to lack any empathy. Now, I don't do spoilers but the woman I'm referring to is very easy to find in the book. I sincerely hope karma pays her a visit! The book had a bit of everything - romance, friendship, adventure and action. If you're looking for a book with an almost never-ending chain of unlucky events or filled with quirky, yet likable characters, then I'd suggest you look at getting this book!

While it is a mostly comical look at the life and times of the night shift workers in a hospital, this book also had its serious moments. We follow the characters as they deal with their different jobs, such as doctors, nurses, orderlies etc.

The staff are dealing with a mysterious thief who is taking wallets and purses in addition to the stresses of money issues and unruly patients. The thief gets his just rewards however, in a hilarious way. Well, at least I found it hilarious, he definitely didn't.

We also get a glimpse of the patients as they deal with injuries or illness. Some sad, some are pretty funny (I will never look at an Armani deodorant the same way again!)

A truly enjoyable read from start to finish, I would recommend this book to anyone with a pulse. A real blast, especially at the end, to be sure!

This book started out a little slow for me, but once I got to know the characters a bit, getting into the story was pretty easy. There were some laugh-out-loud moments that really helped during some of the suspense. Of course, I'm one of those people who tenses up when I see or read about certain situations, so whether or not you find it suspenseful is entirely relative.

Knowing what I know of human nature and some bizarre things that have happened in my own workplaces over the years, I find this book entirely believable. Whether you feel the need to suspend your disbelief or not, I still think most people would find it funny. Almost everyone in the book seemed to represent someone I've known.

Very hilarious, true, night shifts!

I loved this book. The storyline is superb, even though I am an avid sci-fi/fantasy reader, this one kept me laughing and intrigued. Not an easy feat. I have been my kid's resident prankster all their lives (that's 25 years of pranking,if anyone's hiring). I have only pulled 1 prank remotely like the "ex", when I worked as a grave digger (thankfully, the guy lived. No, it wasn't my kid). Absolute truth!

Black survivor at its best

I loved the many different characters, their personalities and the situations they get into. There are several times the grammar errors made me reread, but that's the only drawback. I've found a new must read author! Makes me look twice at the hospital I work in...for humor I've missed.

How funny! I loved the humor in this book. It made me feel like I was there with the characters. Fine has a great way of making a bad situation a little more bearable. I enjoyed the character drawings and little tidbits of information between chapters. A lovely, short read.

Lame

I work night shift and was disappointed in this story. Stories like this hurt hard working people who are dedicated to giving their patients good car.

Hospital humor

Funny book, easy reading. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a laugh that probably has a mountain of truth in it.

I just couldn't get into this book. I don't know if it was actually the book, or me just being tired though... I will be giving it another try soon.
