Hidden in the library’s darkest wing, the Obscuary houses more than forgotten tomes—it’s home to Thorne Valtheris, a reclusive, silver-eyed alien vampire haunted by the fall of his empire. He’s cold, deadly, and definitely off-limits.

Too bad Page has never been good at following rules.

Their attraction is instant. Their connection? Impossible to ignore. But Thorne is keeping dangerous secrets, and Page’s powers are growing faster than she can control. The deeper they’re pulled into each other’s orbit, the harder it becomes to deny what’s building between them.

2.5⭐️ rounded up

Here is what I really enjoyed about the book:
Academia vibes, the library setting felt otherworldly.
A lot of mystery in the beginning, I was quickly drawn into the story.
The different types of aliens and their backgrounds.
An interesting history that has had long a lasting impact on the world, and directly affects the MCs.

I feel like this book started off strong and was really interesting but once the MCs met and started spending time together the pacing felt really slow and drawn out. The challenges and emotional struggles the MCs were facing were repetitive to the point that I was felling like, ok I know how they’re feeling and what’s at stake and I’m ready to get to the resolution.
I’ll be honest it was a struggle for me to finish this book and probably around 60% I started skimming 😬 I didn’t feel super invested in the characters, I just wanted to get to the end. I think this book has a lot of potential but in the end it wasn’t for me.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.

Dark academia vibes meets super-sweet slowburn romance~

The Alien in the Archive’s setting has heavy dark academia vibes that really set the mood as kind of spooky initially, and it makes for a really gripping introduction to the book. Some people might get bogged down in the details and lore the author needed to establish in the beginning, which lends to a slower start, but for me it was really interesting learning about the library planet and the glimpses of what was going on in this universe with interspecies cooperation and other things. I like that we get a good feel for the atmosphere before we officially meet the love interest because once they come together, the tension between them became the only thing I could focus on. I mean, an ancient, forbidden alien species with psychic mind powers that can be used for touchless Os on the lam, hidden away in the archives? Thorne is a *very* intriguing character.

But Chloe Parker doesn’t let her FMCs get overshadowed; they’re just as interesting and Page is not only super smart, extremely determined, and passionate about her work, she has an interesting albeit tragic backstory AND funky mind powers that she has no idea how to control or where they’re coming from. Something I love about this author is that Page’s personality doesn’t get watered down the second she falls in love. She remains this really steadfast, brave, incredible person through the whole story. I won’t go into details but I love the way she sticks to her guns towards the end, even though its terrifying and could ruin her life. Once she believes in something, she’s committed, mind, body and soul, and I adore that kind of character.

The side characters were great too. I loved Thalarra & Riley (I hope they get their own story tbh), the others were good too but they stood out the most to me. And I cannot forget Aslan!! He’s SO cute! Any story with an adorable animal side kick always gets bonus points from me.

The plot had some interesting political undertones but it wasn’t out of place or in your face in a way that made the story preachy. I did find myself wanting more information about what happened on Earth (although I have read a few of this author’s other stories & recognized a few things). And last but not least, the spice was delectable — I cannot get enough of psychic fun times! Especially the dream scenes in the beginning ~Chef’s Kiss~

All in all it was an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to more stories in this series!

Thorne and Page . . .

Thorne Valtheris is an alien vampire who escaped from his world and hides in a restricted area of the galaxy’s immense library. He is probably the last living Borean, a race that reveled in destroying other worlds which caused Thorne’s escape to the Obscurary where he has lived over the many centuries until he and Page sense each other and she discovers him. Page McRae is a human researcher whose psychic secrets are beginning to reveal themselves, so she is on M’mir to do research and use this unique opportunity to perhaps find out more about her strange abilities and how to control them. She and Thorne become friends and their relationship may perhaps lead to something even more. Can they help each other along the way? Will he teach her how to control her psychic power in exchange for her keeping his hiding place a secret? And what will the future have to offer them? Will he continue to hide alone in the Obscurary? Or will he and Page begin to make a life together mingling with others?

Thank you so much for the arc ❤️
This book has so much going for it: the setting, the premise, the character's psychic abilities. I'm such a sucker for academic settings.

I liked the beginning, but unfortunately didn't care for the characters or really see the progression of the plot, so I'm choosing to DNF at 25%.
I feel like the first quarter was really focused on world lore, but that kind of dragged for me.

It wasn't bad but just not for me.

The writing is fine. The setting is beautiful.
But I struggled to care for the worldbuilding and the research topic.

Rating: 4.5 stars

Amongst some science fiction purists, science fiction romance has a reputation for being less complex than its “straight” counterpart.

I don’t think this is justified – and The Alien in the Archive is proof of why.

From the beginning, I could tell that Parker had put serious thought into M’mir, where this book and the wider Galatic Librarians series is set. The world is totally immersive, and you really get a sense of its overwhelming expanse, from its “coral spires and ivy-covered monoliths” to its “cascading aqueducts.”

This is particularly noticeable from the perspective of our female main character, Page McRae. Despite being awed by M’mir, it was refreshing to see that her main driver was gaining knowledge: about the Skoll species, about the properties of their mystical Elixir, and her own burgeoning physic abilities. This hunger – verging on stubbornness – makes her exploration of the titular Archive a forgone conclusion, but one with no less tension.

On the other side of the romantic equation is Thorne Valeris. He’s a Borean – a telepathic, vampiric creature who has lived for thousands of years. Where Page is searching for answers, he’s spent an eternity trying to avoid his own knowledge of the past. Thorne’s portrayal was one of the most interesting and layered. Though he’s physically described as having “a face that’s sharp and angular, like it’s been carved from ice”, the attraction between him and Page never fully overshadows the weight of his actions- or inaction – during the Great Convergence. They are a part of him, and we as readers have to reckon with the emotional dissonance as much as Page does.

Speaking of emotions – if you’ve read my reviews before, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of slow burns. This was no exception. Thorne and Page’s interactions were prickly at first – a pure quid pro quo, that Page describes as “a deal with the devil” – but seeing them gradually come to respect each other, with neither character losing their agency in the process, was beautiful. Mate bonds are ten a penny in SFR, but I really loved the way Parker made hers stand out. It’s not just something that flares to life during intimate moments. Described as “humming gently”, but also letting Thorne “ feel every tremor of her fear […] raw and sharp,” it’s the undercurrent to everything Page and Thorne say and do. As readers, we see why it’s so intense, and why they’re fighting so hard to keep hold of each other. This is a genre trope done right; recognisable, but altered enough to keep it interesting.

Apart from this, the other part of the novel that I loved was its thematic focus on history: its complexity, how it’s perceived by the people on different sides of it, how it continues to affect people in the present day. Though Page is crucial in helping Thorne unburden himself from the guilt of his past mistakes – telling him, “You’ve changed. You’re still changing,” – not everyone is as accepting. From Lyn and her great grandma’s permanent deformity, to Dr Kaelion Rhyss and the destruction of Nyeri’i culture, those of all different backgrounds have their own painful stories of how Thorne’s people impacted them. When Thorne is finally brought in front of the Tribunal to answer for his crimes, he isn’t fully absolved of them. There’s no triumphant victory – but personally, I liked the realism this brought to the story. As one character says, “History is rarely as simple or as clean as we would like to believe.”

The Alien in the Archive has a lot of great things – an immersive world, nuanced characters and a main relationship that takes your breath away. But for me, its biggest success is its depth. Through the love story of Page and Thorne, Parker explores themes of guilt, accountability, and the lasting scars of history. For those who think science fiction romance can’t be deep, challenging, or profound, this is the book to change your mind.

🖤 “For five thousand years, I drifted between the shadows of life. Existing, but not living. And then you came in—stubborn, determined you—and turned everything upside down. You gave me hope. A reason to fight. A reason to stay.”
~~~
Dr Patience McRae is so awesome! She’s brilliant, bold and tenacious. And she’s so caring, compassionate and understanding. Even more, I loved Page’s curiosity, her hunger for answers and her dedication and determination to discover the truth, even when her actions might get her in trouble. And she’s one of the youngest historians who gets the opportunity to work in the Grand Library of M’mir. Page is an incredible woman and I loved her so, so much!
Thorne Valtheris is probably the last living Borean. Once part of a dangerous and brutal empire, he’s been in hiding since before the Convergence. Thorne might appear cold, brooding and stoic at first, but there’s so much more than meets the eye. He’s caring, considerate, patient and so charming. And I truly loved his brilliance, knowledge and fondness of… bodice rippers. And Thorne is a man who will not hesitate to face the consequences of his (or his people’s) actions. This Borean is one absolutely incredible male and I adored everything about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Page and Thorne! Page is in the Grand Library of M’mir in search of answers, but deep in the shadows of the Obscuary she discovers the most unexpected secret - a living Borean in hiding - Thorne. And a bargain it struck and an unexpected friendship was born. I absolutely loved those two together! I loved every moment Page and Thorne spent in each other’s company, revealing the secrets of the past. I loved their chemistry and how supportive and understanding they were of one another. Even more, they were such kindred spirits and the bond they formed was unbreakable, even further strengthened by their psychic connection. And when they finally gave into the undeniable attraction, the passionate moments they shared were so hot! Page and Thorne’s journey towards happiness was not an easy one, but everything they went through was worth it in the end. They were so perfect for each other and more than deserved to find love together!
In addition, the storyline was phenomenal! Chloe Parker always manages to build such intricate, beautiful and captivating worlds. I absolutely loved that we got to explore the galaxy’s greatest library and dive deep into its magic and secrets. Even more, I really liked how much we get to learn not only about the history of the Pact’s species, but also about the Boreans who’ve always been seen as nothing but vile and evil. And everything that is unveiled shows that true history is rarely simple and is never just black and white. With everything happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, The Alien in the Archive is an incredible story and a fantastic start of the series!
I absolutely loved every page of it, and I cannot wait to see what else will be revealed within the walls of the Grand Library of M’mir!
The Alien in the Archive is the first book in the Galactic Librarians series by Chloe. This is a standalone sc-fi romance.
I really don't know what to think about this book, even 24 hours after I finished reading it. I really, really, liked it don't get me. It didn't hook me so much that I've given it a 5 star review, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I think it's because the story is so different from many other sci-fi romances, and is set apart from any other sci-fi that I've consumed (and I'm a massive sci-fi fan). It left me pleasantly surprised, excited and intrigued.
Dr Page McRae is a historian, she's intelligent and tenacious, and she's driven to find the answers for the questions she most wants answered. So when she receives an exclusive fellowship in the galaxy's biggest library - she is excited. The library is mammoth, an absolute labyrinth and features knowledge of civilisations. When I read about the library, it made me think of the moon that was a library in the Doctor Who episode Silence in the Library.
Thorne Valtheris is the titular alien in the archive. He is some sort of vampiric alien, whose people (well, galactic empire) had caused a terrible cataclysm that killed so many other races of alien. He has always been a scholar and has hidden in the library he had helpe create centuries ago. There is some mystical connection that links Thorne and Page.
As Page seeks the answers she needs - both for her research and for herself - she and Thorne form a secret friendship that quickly changes into something more. To me, Thorne is endlessly fascinating and with his past, he is incredibly complex. Page keeps Thorne's presence a secret, knowing that he is a fugitive from a much race of aliens. Together they piece together the past, Thorne through his memories and Page through her research, and it is through this seemingly simple act that their connection deepens.
Page, the female human graduate researcher lead, is thrilled to be on a library planet with the most exciting resources available, able to pursue her personal interest. As she moves through the restricted part of the library, however, she finds herself drawn to particular books and spaces, some of which appear to be in use…
Thorne, the male alien vampire lead, retired into the restricted part of the library years ago. He is millennia old and has seen the empire of his people rise and be brought down as it needed to be. A scholar, he was part of the resistance in his people, yet he hid when he could not see a way to stop them, waiting to literally waste away. Now he’s found a human in his library whose scent and mind draw his attention and who the magical books keep drawing towards him.
Page and Thorne become enthralled with each other but Thorne’s people dominated all others and, whilst they’ve been destroyed, many species are very long lived and even some of the scholars at the library were involved in the wars that necessary to destroy them. Thorne is sure he needs to remain hidden. But Page’s brother and his friends are worried about Page’s welfare because she seems to be disappearing into research more than is healthy…
This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and complex, detailed, sci fi romance in the author’s normal style. I enjoyed Page’s determination to know and understand, even when others, including Thorne, encouraged her to let questions go and to change focus. I empathised with Thorne’s history and understood why he chose to remain in hiding. I enjoyed seeing him connect with Page and come back to life. I enjoyed the non-romance plot and the supportive secondary characters. I appreciated the clever simplicity of the resolution and the balancing of many perspectives around Thorne. I enjoyed the building intimacy between the lead characters.
The Alien in the Archive creates a world that’s basically every reader’s fantasy: a library that takes up an entire planet! With many different types of libraries reflecting the cultures of the known worlds, it’s easy to imagine that an ancient alien might be able to hide in its depths for centuries.
And that’s exactly what Thorne has done as the last living member of his vilified race, hiding away from a universe that condemned his people for the horrific conquests they waged across the galaxy (which are the subject of Parker’s Moonbound Mates/Riftwolves series, set hundreds of years earlier). Unfortunately for his reclusive tendencies, a new scholar has appeared on the planet M’mir, who just happens to be psychically linked to him.
Parker does a fantastic job setting up this wildly unusual world where the pursuit of knowledge is the ultimate goal. It’s easy to imagine how history gets lost in a vast planetary library, and the theme of the Galactic Librarians series seems to be uncovering that hidden knowledge.
I loved the courtliness of Thorne and the energy and passion of Page. She’s adorably driven and nerdy, and for once I could completely buy that a thousand-years-old being would fall for a human in her 20s due to his isolation and their psychic connection. Add to it that there are unusual, special things about Page, and her relationship with Thorne made utter sense to me.
These two also transform one another, shifting their research focus, their life focus, and more. Add in great, clearly differentiated secondary characters and the library of readers’ dreams, and you’ve got a brilliant read, and a fantastic start to a new series. As any good librarian would say—check it out!
I received an ARC version of this book.
I would actually say this is more 3.5-3.75 stars, but unfortunately Goodreads does not let us do in-between ratings.
As a historian and archivist myself, this book seemed like it was written for me. The correct use of the term "historiography" made me set my copy down and clap - but that's not what you guys are here for.
I think this is a great start to a series, it provides a lot of context for the world building, but occasionally the characters did seem a little flat. However, the writing made up for that, in my opinion. One thing I found odd is that it's set thousands (I'm assuming thousands, we aren't given a specific date) years in the future, but it doesn't feel futuristic. There are many parts of the book that feel too present-day...maybe that's what the author is going for, but I would've liked a bit more futuristic aspects mixed in with the (fictional) historical/archival aspects.
While I liked the book, I do feel like it was missing...something, and I can't quite put my finger on it. It either needed more camaraderie between the characters or character development, but not to the point that it made the story a DNF. I feel like the author will find that missing piece as the series expands.
The relationship between the main leads was enjoyable, and the romantic scenes were *chef's kiss* - so if you're looking for a cozy, romantic read with a little sci-fi and archival practices sprinkled in, this book is for you! It's a quick read and, I believe, setting up for a good series to follow.
The first 80 pages of this story are slow. There’s a lot of emphasis on the MMCs loneliness, and the FMC being scared of her powers being found out or some such. Almost to the point of redundancy. I nearly DNF’d, but kept going. It gets better. I understand that some of this is world building, but not all of it. It made it hard to connect to the characters who DO have compelling stories. They don’t even meet for the first five or six chapters.
I don’t know that the pace gets a lot better, but things finally start moving. It’s an interesting perspective because the MMC is from a thought to be extinct race who are seen as monsters and villains. The MMC tried to stop others of his kind from what they did, but it wasn’t enough.
The MMC is hated by default because of this history. It’s interesting to see the hate that builds on the other side. Can one see past the traumas once group of people cause another? Should this one person carry the weight of judgement and consequences for his entire people even just because he’s the last one alive despite the fact that he tried to stop it from the beginning?
Heavy topics for a romance novel. A lot to unpack. I sat with this a few days before writing this review. The romance, while there, almost takes a back seat to all I’ve listed here. It doesn’t linger nearly as much as the other parts of the story.
4 &1\2 terrific 🌟's for The Alien inn the Archive🌟🔥💖
I really e joyed this first book in a new series by Chloe Parker. I do believe I've only read one other book by her several years ago. Their is a bit of world building that I think I'm missing that was told in many previous books. I don't feel like I need to have read these books to understand this new series but for me I feel like I'm missing small bits of information I should know. Page and her brother Riley have left earth and come to M'mir where the galaxy's largest library of combined knowledge exists. Here Page is looking for answers and connections to the Elixir and humans. What she finds is an alien that should not even exist on any planet anymore. One that is seen as a danger to all other species that live in the combo ed galaxies. Thorne a male of a race despised for its conquest and cruelty. Who was and is a scholar who tried and failed to curb his species crimes. But in the end he had to hide among the very books and scrolls he helped to preserve. I it it he day Page's mind touched his💖 everything changed aged for both of them . A connection that only fate could have written in the stars. UT they will have to fight for their love and to preserve ancient knowledge on the brink of being lost for all time. Will they succeed or will they be torn a part? You'll need to read and find out! Totally recommend💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥💖🌟
“I don’t want this… I didn’t ask for it, it’s not particularly helpful. I’m so, so sick of it.”
“Unfortunately, you can’t stop it or reverse it... You learn to focus it, to harness it. But first, you need to understand it.”
“That’s why I’m here,” she says. “Do you think I came all the way up here to chat in the middle of the night? I need answers, and you’re the only one who might have them.”
'Her words, sharp as they are, strike something in me. The trust she places in me, even when she’s afraid, is staggering. She could have gone to anyone else… but she’s here.
With me.
Mine.'
I really enjoyed this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. The storyline was interesting and mysterious. I liked learning about this world. I loved both Thorne and Page. Thorn himself fascinated me- though I was sad to learn his reason for having gone to the Obscuary. I was interested in Page's growing powers, finding out why, and how she could learn to control them. I liked how the relationship between them developed and they had great chemistry.
'Her blood, her touch, her presence— they’re all a storm I’m not sure I can weather. It’s as if she’s burrowed under my skin, her every word, every breath, leaving marks I can’t erase.
And for the first time in longer than I can remember, I’m afraid.'
The Alien in the Archive is an entertaining Sci-Fi Romance that follows the adventure of MFC Patience (Page) McRae who has arrived in the capital city of Mythara to continue her research within their grand library on the connections between humanity and the Skoll.
But as the days pass the psychic ability that had begun to develop before her arrival on M’mir senses there is something or someone else lingering among the stacks of ancient tomes where she is also seeking answers to her own newly acquired skill.
MMC Throne Valtheris has spent centuries hiding in the archives shadows, content yet haunted by the evil that his species the Borean had spread across the galaxy until all worlds had formed a pact to stop them, leaving him the last of his kind.
But now he has felt the faint stirrings of Page’s curious psychic presence begin to enter his mind, and knows he has to meet her.
This was a delightful story and another of the author’s that was an engaging, well written one, with excellent world building, and combining mystery, spice, romance, secrets, emotion, and personal vulnerabilities together into a very enjoyable read. HEA.
The Alien in the Archive is a slow burn romance with a bit of an age gap, just a couple centuries. Not too bad. Honestly, I did enjoy that aspect of the book.
Page (How fun is it that the researcher is named Page?!) is looking for answers to questions that relate to an accident she was involved in. This leads her on a journey to discover the last Borean, Thorne, who dissented against his government and had to run to save himself. He hid deep in the vast library for centuries. He holds the answers to the questions Page has been researching, and he is her mate.
It's a lovely story with some depth to it. It asks questions about what is right and wrong with public dissent and personal safety. Should one be held responsible for the crimes of an entire people?
For me, it moved at a slow pace. That was nice, but it made me put it down and come back to it several times. I liked both characters. The side characters are interesting. For me, it was simply the pacing that didn't work well for me. It is worth the read.
Chloe Parker’s books are an auto buy for me - her novels always have a fascinating plot and incredible characters and worldbuilding! The Alien in the Archive ticks all those boxes as well, and if you’re familiar with her other sci-fi novels with the Skoll, Merati, Boreans, Lycans, etc. the reading experience is a little richer for knowing some of this galactic history that our MCs, Page and Thorne are working through.
This is very much a character driven novel with lots of growth for our fated mates. Thorne is an absolute dream book boyfriend but is also a fugitive who has been hiding away in the Obscuary for hundreds of years haunted by immense survivors guilt. Page is also a great character - she’s an intelligent, tenacious and dedicated woman who also shows great empathy to others. The two of them have explosive chemistry together which of course leads to some beautifully heartfelt and absolutely scorching scenes 🥵
“I thought I had nothing left to find in the cosmos—no place, no person—but she’s here. My anchor.”
Don’t miss this one, it’s a great read!
When Page McRae earns a coveted fellowship at the galaxy’s greatest library, it feels like her research dreams are finally coming true—and like she might uncover the truth about her mysterious psychic powers.
Thorne Valtheris has spent centuries hiding in the archives, content to let the galaxy forget he ever existed. Haunted by the sins of his long-dead empire, he’s cold, detached, and dangerous.
He knows he should stay away. She knows he’s keeping secrets. But the deeper they’re drawn into each other’s worlds, the harder it becomes to resist the connection pulling them together.
As Page uncovers the truth about her psychic abilities—and her link to Thorne—she realizes he may be her only chance for answers…even if trusting him risks everything, including her heart.
The Alien in the Archive is a slow burn romance with a bit of an age gap, just a couple centuries. I liked the story overall and the world building that was there was enough for me, Page and Thorne was really good and the challenges and struggles they faced I also liked Thalarra & Riley and hope to se more of them, the story was good i just hade a hard time connecting to it.
Fantastic world building, utterly intriguing backstory, total immersive read!
Nearly didn't pick this up because, for me, the cover has mixed vibes that could be mistaken as a child's book. Now I'm thankful I did choose it otherwise I would have missed out on what has become my favourite quirky read of 2025 so far!
While working in the centuries old Obscuary, Page encounters Thorne Valtheris, the last surviving Borean hiding in the library's depths. Despite knowing he's an alien vampire who should be feared, Page is drawn to him. Their relationship develops and Thorne has to face reality so he can pursue the life he wants with Page. And so this sweet but sexy story develops with both Thorne and Page facing their own challenges in this weird but wonderful sci fi world.
Parker has the world building off pat, the characters spot on and prose so confident in its story telling that you can't help but get hooked. This is a deeply intelligent, deliciously raw read. I loved every minute!.
Page (h), a psychic historian, arrives at the galaxy’s oldest library expecting research and routine. What she finds is Thorne (H)—an immortal Borean fugitive, hiding in the Obscuary’s depths and guarding secrets that could change everything. He’s supposed to be extinct. He’s also the only one who knows the truth about a past the galaxy has tried to erase. As Page and Thorne form a fragile alliance, the lines between scholar and subject blur. Their bond—psychic, emotional, and eventually physical—pulls them into a deeper confrontation with buried atrocities, institutional betrayal, and the cost of speaking out. Together, they must decide if the truth is worth the risk, and what kind of future is possible when you're no longer willing to stay quiet. A slow-burn, alien-human, sci-fi romance, exploring connection, legacy, silence, reclaiming lost knowledge, challenging what’s been accepted, and choosing love in the face of fear.
Gleeful Goblin Review: As a child of the 80's who grew up on stories like The Pagemaster and The Neverending Story, and as an adult have been delighted by things like Silence In The Library episode of Doctor Who and any cozy fantasy/science fiction romance related to libraries and librarians this book called to my very SOUL. When I got into the story I loved the somewhat tragic figure of Thorne feeling called to and yet horrified by his attraction to Page. The way that he's written as a space vampire/reclusive monster in the library taps all my tall, mysterious, and aloof but alluring buttons and I absolutely know why Page is so drawn to him. I love feeling like I can live through Page in this epic space library romance that's quite literally...written in the stars. 5/5 Stars.
The Alien in the Archive is quite suspenseful and a page turning alien romance. The story is fabulously written, amazingly balanced and beautifully executed by Chloe Parker. She continues to prove to me what a phenomenal author she is with each book I’ve read by her so far. The main characters of this story are Page and Thorne. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know both of these two characters as well as witnessing their amazing story come to life throughout the book. This book has a marvelous plot, wonderful characters and a breathtaking ending for the main characters. I would most definitely recommend this book for anyone to checkout and give it a read.
It’s the culmination of a dream for Page: conducting research at M’mir, surrounded by books and forgotten knowledge all day. But one day, when she wanders into the Obscuary, she finds something - actually someone - that turns her life upside down. Thorne has been hiding for centuries, but, against the odds, Page brings him to life. This story has so many tender and poignant moments, so many tangled emotions, plus some fantastic steamy scenes, that I fell in love with this story and these characters. Thorne is perfection as a “broody, troubled hero” while Page is fantastic as a “spunky, spirited heroine” (to play on the bodice ripper romances they read together). An amazing, immersive story.
“An empire can only appear eternal if it doesn't have a history.”
WOW. I was immediately hooked from page one and I enjoyed every single second. I wasn't expecting to dive so deeply into the wounds of a galaxy, but I found that it was something I needed-- especially in the current climate.
Page and Thorne are so wonderful together, and them falling in love IN A LIBRARY was magical.
If you like:
▪︎spice
▪︎introspective on the world through fictional characters
▪︎cute animal companions
▪︎alien vampires who are scholars
▪︎fated mates
Then please give this a shot!!
The concept of this book was great. Two scholars find love- but the MMC is a super old, last of his kind, not-quite-war-criminal from atrocities his people committed long ago. As the FMC tries to unravel history hidden in his corner of the library, they fall in love as the MMC struggles with the outcomes of his past choices and how to build a future from that. I really enjoyed this book but would have liked to have a bit more context/world building on certain parts of the story line. It was generally well-written and the plot flowed without being confusing.
This was an interesting and entertaining romance for Thorne, fugitive alien, and Page, human librarian with emerging psychic gifts. There is a lot of world building/lore and mystery in the beginning so expect a slower start to the romance. However, I was really fascinated with the library planet and universe and that kept me engaged. Page and Thorne were really well matched on several levels but especially psychically - and yes, those mind powers can work with the spicy times, too ;P This was a well written and engaging read that's filled with mystery, secrets, emotions and steamy romance :D
How far will you go for redemption and revenge. Thorne is a Borean, the last of a species that is reviled everywhere. But history should be taken in context and when Page, an extraordinary woman with growing psychic powers, discovers Thorne deep in the library, it starts a journey for both of them that will not only change their lives, but bring understanding of that context to everyone else. A really interesting, different and quirky story. Slow burn but it would spoil the story of it went any faster. A great build up and both Page and Thorne are characters with real depth. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next Galactic Librarian story.
A fabulous story with an academic theme as Page is working in a galactic library, doing research when she discovers Thorne, an alien vampire. He helps her to discover more about her powers. A sweet, steamy read with engaging characters and terrific world building I recognised from Chloe's other books. Very enjoyable.
Thorne and Page
An exciting first book in this series, a page turner with some suspense.
The characters were relatable and the world interesting with the library as the center focus and what it holds
Thorne and Page falling in love was inevitable and their journey was very unconventional.
The supporting characters were an integral part of the story and brought more depth to it
I look forward to reading book two
Great job Chloe
