The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."

Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.

Text and audio from Scribd. A light way to pass the time and improve my English. For me, it was a bit silly but for little children, this book should be interesting and funny!

My favorite character is A.J because he is a funny kid. He always tells jokes that he makes you think about. The main character is Mr. Cooper that dresses up as a super hero of what they learn about in class. The problem of Mr. Cooper is that the kids find him eating in the classroom instead of the teacher's lounge. The reason he doesn't have a key is that Mr. Granite left to go the plant Etinarg but he forgot that he had the key with him. The kids that were taught by Mr. Granite were very close each other. Mr. Granite gets pick up by the people of Etinarg. Mr. Cooper comes in for Mr. Granite and the kids think that he is weird because he wears super hero suits. The kids go and spy on Mr. Cooper and he is eating in the classroom instead of the teacher lounge. Mr. Granite comes back while the kids are at recess.
The genre of the book is fiction. This book is part 1 of 4 in the series. I liked the book because it is funny an interesting. I read this book in 2 weeks. I felt that I was happy and a little sad. The theme of the book is that teachers can have different personalities. If you like to laugh you would love to read this story. The book "Mr. Cooper Is Super" is writing by Dan Gutman.

Mr. Granite is pretty weird. After announcing his "retirement" (he's actually an alien that gets taken away on a spaceship), you would think that A.J. would now get a normal third grade teacher!
No, the new teacher actually turns out to be weirder, which is hard to believe that this was possible for A.J's class.
Mr. Cooper comes to school everyday dressed as a superhero. If that's not weird, then I don't know what it could be. The start of a goofy series, Mr. Cooper appears as a superhero, but his skills are tested when the students panic and need to be saved from evil at the school.

1. If you were a superhero, what would be your superhero name, and what would be your powers?
2. Did you think that Mr. Cooper turned out to be a good superhero, or even a role model? Why or why not?
3. Although Mr. Cooper may seem weird, what are some of the important things he taught in A.J.'s class? (Here's a clue: check out his outfits)
4. Why do UFO's keep randomly showing up on the playground?
5. If you had to make a sacrifice in order to make something else better, would you do it? Why/why not?

Gutman, D., & Paillot, J. (2015). Mr. Cooper is super! HarperCollins.

THIS was so weird, but also really funny. The mc took a lot of expressions and put Logic on them which was kinda enjoyable. IT is clearly written for children and IT was very child-ish.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something! A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

In this edition Mr. Granite has finally been reunited with his home planet of Etinarg and Ella Mentry School is in need of a new third grade teacher. Mr. Cooper Super Hero is on the job! Educating students about mind powers, rats, and the importance of always returning something borrowed; it’s a challenging profession and someone has to do it, but it won’t be easy.

This is a story half about a jazzed-up alien version of the 3rd grade teacher leaving the school, and half about the unique techniques the new teacher and the librarian use to teach the kids. I'm having problems with the new My Weird School books, though. They no longer have a real plot and conflict, unlike the previous series of My Weird School books. They have very few realistic stories and are getting less relatable for kids. They're just bizzare, pointless tales. And the jokes are being way too overused. They are getting so repetitive, and it's really frustrating. I still do suggest the first series of My Weird School and the My Weird School Daze books.

Let's talk about the good parts of this book first: the new third grade teacher is pretty cool. He claims to be a superhero, and his superhero name and outfit changes depending on which unit he's writing. The story is also snappy, and there are aliens.

But- and this is a big one - there's a lot of stereotypes running wild here. All the girls get scared, they're all terrified of rats. One girl is called a cry baby by our narrator. There's a lot of "dumb" name calling going on too. I understand that boys at this age might think girls are icky, but we're painting with an awfully big brush here, with a lot of gender stereotypes.

I've read a few of the titles from the original set of these books (My Weird School), and found them funny and clever. (Perhaps because the others I've read were realistic fiction and this one was fantasy, and therefore unexpected?) This one will be loved by young kids, I'm sure, but the story seems silly rather than funny. However, since there's place for both with kids, this book will be quickly placed on my classroom shelf.

Read this as part of a summer book club with my (reluctant) 4th grader. He enjoyed it and was excited for me to read. It's silly and completely unrealistic but entertaining for young readers.

Very silly book. Perfect for 7-10 year olds. My 8 year old loved it and immediately asked for the next one. Will definitely be reading more Gutman. There was a lot of play with language and the meaning of words which k found interesting. For example, guess who walked into the door? Well that silly, you’d get hurt if you walked “into” the door but someone did walk into the doorway. There were a lot of little things like that that I appreciated.

At first the class thought Mr. granite was the teacher, but then Mr. Granites friends came. After that mr klutz came in. That’s when they said they were going to take Mr. granite back to the planet that’s called granite backwards. Then all the kids in the class started screaming. Next mr. klutz said time to go home it was 3:40 pm The next day, the new teacher did not come in so Mitchell, Ryan and AJ did what they do when there’s no teachers they shook their butts at the class then the teacher came running into the room and smashed into the teachers table. He said his leg broke, but it didn’t because he was hobbling around the classroom. He wrote his name on the big whiteboard in big letters MR COOPER.

My favorite character was Mr. Cooper. My favorite part was when the aliens from the granite planet backwards came to take Mr. granite back to the planet granite spell backwards.

This book is a delight, which is somewhat surprising to me. I don't find many 1st-3rd grade chapter books that make me laugh out loud. I think my favorite part was when the boys were suddenly unsupervised and the worst thing they could think of to do was to "shake their butts at the class". I also appreciate the tidbits for parents who are reading aloud like "when women get married their name changes from Miss to Mrs. or sometimes Ms. Nobody knows why". Overall I think this is kind of a timeless, quick read with a huge number of books in the series to keep fans busy!

I read this for a Children’s Literature session that focused on humor books for kids and I was pleasantly surprised. It was really funny!! I thought this would be filled with typical little boy humor but it actually had smart jokes. I also loved how Dan Guttman perfectly captured a third grader’s perspective. Highly recommended for any young readers who love the humor genre!

This story is a bit strange and somewhat entertaining because it revolves around superheroes. The humor was kind of painful for adult listeners and some of it wasn't understood by my seven and eight year olds. I don't think I will be listening to any more from this series.

I think this would be an amazing book to use with 3rd graders, especially those who are generally not interested in reading. This is definitely a great book because there is so much going on that it keeps students interested, while not being too overwhelming. Also, it uses a lot of vocabulary and situations that would be familiar to students in 3rd grade, while also embellishing the story a bit and making it super fun and interesting. This would be an excellent series to use with 3rd graders, especially 3rd grade boys. These are written from a 3rd grade boy's point of view and it would be more relatable for them. AMAZING book!!!
