In this astonishing one-hundred-page companion novella to the New York Times bestselling I Am Number Four series, meet Lexa, a Loric hacker whose unrivaled skills helped her narrowly escape her doomed planet, and who's been hiding on Earth ever since.

Lexa was never part of the Elders' plan. She had no idea the Garde children were being evacuated to our planet. But when the Mogadorian attack began, she used her expertise to get an old spaceship in a museum operational once more and became irrevocably entwined with the Garde's fate. In addition to her friend, a pack of Chimæra, and a Cêpan named Crayton, her relic of a ship also carried Ella, the tenth Garde.

With all of their Cêpans now gone, the Garde think they are the last of the Loric people. But they are wrong. They have forgotten all about the crew that brought them to Earth. Where have the pilots for both ships been all these years? And why haven't they joined in the fight against the Mogs? In The Navigator, discover the truth behind their escape from Lorien and what happened to them after they arrived on our planet.

OKAY. So Lexa was always kind of a character I didn't care much about and her appearance in the main books felt a little deux ex machina. I appreciated the presence of other character though; it's always great to see cameos.

"You don't give up faith. Even when common sense tells you that you should."

OMGods. I've been wary of so many theories about what's gonna happen on The Fate of Ten! It's running across my mind and I'm so freaking excited about how will GUARD would help protect her fellow Loric. It's about to get ferocious out there, Lexa.

P. S. Something to bear in mind. Could it be that Dr. Anu made some attempt to make some experimental genetic manipulation on some traitor-accused Elder be turned into someone who's a hideous Mogadorian Leader who obstruct the fate of his grandchild to be used against the Garde? Or could it be much worse than that? We'll have to find out and fight for Lorien.

The heartbreaking story of Lexa, aka GUARD, Mark's mysterious online friend.

Her story starts back on Lorien, where we find her questioning how things are done in Lorien, completely disillusioned and .

We get a firsthand account of how she ended up on a ship bound for Earth along with , and what led her to the decision to become GUARD, and I am looking forward to reading more about her journey in the next short story, The Guard.

I am not sure how I feel about this short story. I was really hoping for more information on Lexa, but never really got it. Hopefully I will get more information with the next story.

⭐️ 3.5. I liked hearing Lexa’s story, but I wasn’t as invested in hers as I have been in other stories. The whole thing was a lot more of a downer than the other installments.

This was a great flashback to the attack on Lorien. These lost file books are too short but give really neat side stories. I really liked this one. I was being a total dope and didn't realize who the main character was til the last page. I should have figured it out WAY sooner. Will continue to read the series.

60/100.

This book shows us the last day of Lorien and the trip to Earth from a different perspective, the one of Lexa, the pilot of the second ship.
She too wasn't really happy with the way Lorien was ruled by the Elder and somehow trying to find a way to get everything to change before it actually changed for the worse.
In this book we don't see the happiness of the Loric as much as we did in "The last day of Lorien" instead we have Lexa's bitter point of view.
We also learn about the landing and the fact that the Mogs were already there looking for the Lorien on Earth, very early after they arrived. Basically there was no time to learn how to live on Earth and how to adapt before they needed to start running and hiding. That was kind of dreadful.

We also learn how Crayton and Lexa were separated and the fate of Zophie.

It's a nice book event though it isn't really hopefully and filled with a feeling of dread and loneliness.

Decades before the main series begins, when the Mogodorian attack begins on Lorien, Lexa is conscripted to fly an old-fashioned space ship in an attempt to escape. Once on Earth, she and her companions must try to track down the other Loric that made it off the planet, but more than that, they have to survive in this alien world.

I don't remember having any particular attachment to Lexa when reading the main series or wondering about her backstory, but this was still an interesting read. I appreciated seeing Lorien before and during the invasion and also getting an idea of the culture and political climate from the perspective of someone who actually lived there. I enjoyed this novella a little more than the previous, which could be due in part to Sarah (my least favorite of the major characters from the main series) not being involved at all. For those who have read and enjoyed the main series and want to revisit the world, you definitely consider reading this as well.

Three words: Lexa is badass.

And I don’t think I had questions that this LF answered but the things on here definitely made sense when paired with the main storyline.

Zophie annoyed me too much though. And Janus giving in, too. The Loric are fragile beings after all. I don’t blame them after all they’ve been through but I feel like I’ve been sold to them being all integrity and patriotic that their weaknesses rubbed off all wrong on me.

In the main story and the earlier LFs, we had Henri and Katarina and Sandor who really did lay their lives for the cause, and we had Crayton, too, who grew very dear to me personally in Rise of Nine and in this LF. But I guess it’s because they were Mentor Cepans (even if Sandor and Crayton are unofficial) and so they WERE trained to be strong-willed compared to Zophie and Janus.

Ugh. Okay. Let’s not cry over spilled milk anymore. Moving on!

This was pretty good. Took me a while to actually get into it. I was really happy to get this content about Crayton and baby Ella. As well as Lexa's backstory. Initially I wasn't super excited because I didn't remember anything about Lexa except for the fact that she showed up somewhere late in the series. But she's really cool. And it's nice to know she's been there in the background covering the Garde's tracks on the internet as much as she can. But yeah, not recognizing Zophie's name from my first run on the original series, I knew she was gonna end up dead by the end of either this novella or the next. It was just a matter of when and how. Poor girl. But damn. If Lexa had just told Zophie that she knew Janus was dead, Zophie could have come with her on that trip to Montreal. Maybe they could have rescued Five and Albert. But no. Five was doomed to fall from the beginning.
