"The New Testament of Jesus Christ is a message of faith, hope and love. It is called the Good News. My friend and colleague Kris Vallotton is one of the best in the prophetic community to help shape, teach and model these 'Good News Prophets.' Thanks for honoring my generation's pioneering work and picking up the baton and carrying it forth!"--Dr. James Goll, founder, Encounters Network, Prayer Storm and GET eSchool; author, The Seer , The Lifestyle of a Prophet , Praying for Israel's Destiny and many more
"I love this book! As a person passionate to see the most desired gift in the New Testament (see 1 Corinthians 14:1) flourish all over the world, I would recommend this book wholesale. It clearly and biblically describes how to function in the New Testament gift of prophecy and articulates various kinds of biblical prophets. If one heeds its principles, it will give greater understanding and produce higher levels of maturity in prophetic ministry. 'I wish that all the Lord's people were prophets' (Numbers 11:29 niv) and that they all read Kris Vallotton's great book School of the Prophets ."--Stacey Campbell, founder, Canadian Prophetic Council; author, Ecstatic Prophecy
"Kris Vallotton's book reminds us that the heart of prophecy should be God's heart to build up, encourage and speak life. God sees the greatness over our lives, and our desire should be to see each other as He does. Kris goes through strategic and important teaching about prophecy versus the office of prophet, specifically in the context of the Church. I highly recommend this book and pray that it helps you to understand the prophetic and to 'call the gold' out of those around you. Our whole family has been uplifted in a powerful way through our deep friendship with this amazing man."--Heidi Baker, Ph.D.; co-founder and director, Iris Global

In a culture that often seems permeated by a spirit of despair and hopelessness, Kris Vallotton's voice has emerged as a beacon of hope, prophetically drawing people to the truth of Christ and the loving relationship God desires to have with us. "School of the Prophets" is another engaging read from his talented pen, providing guidance to all who would seek to use their prophetic gifting to encourage people to go deeper with God. I greatly appreciated the way in which he shares so candidly from his own experiences, such as when he shares about the time he was so uncertain about the prophetic word he shared to the pastoral staff at Bethel that he spent the service lying on the floor with his head under a chair! His transparent honesty about his own past struggles are very refreshing, and provide an environment where anyone seeking to walk in the prophetic gift can embrace the calling with the recognition that mistakes may be made along the way, but that God is bigger than those mistakes. Kris offers a lot of wisdom, and there are definitely things in this book that will challenge your way of thinking. Whether you agree with all that he offers or not, you will walk away with a greater understanding of the prophetic voice needed in our churches today, one that should be focused on encouraging and raising up people to realize their God-given calling, and not focus on a message of judgement and wrath (as has so often been the case with prophetic ministries).
Whether you are someone wanting a solid understanding of the gift of prophecy or are seeking to deepen their gifting, "School of the Prophets" is a worthwhile read. I award it a solid rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

Anyone stepping out in prophetic ministry should read this book. It covers many things taught in prophetic schools, and gives practical insight and details for those called to be prophets. There is such alot of wisdom, here, and also some good biblical insights. I was amazed at how is contained in this one book, and how enjoyable it was to read.
I loved how this book explained what the call of the prophet is about and how to understand the role of the prophets in the past versus now. Kris used scripture extensively to enlighten us on how the Lord equips His prophets. He also shares some insightful tips that are very applicable. Really enjoyed this book!
First half of the book is the usual stuff around the prophetic, but the second half about building prophetic culture and ministering to business or political leaders, very helpful.
At times the book feels ‘old school’ and other times ‘cutting edge’. An example of cutting edge would be about the prophet Daniel and how he managed himself in the court of the King. Daniel knew the language, the culture and was willing allow himself to be called a magician, but would not eat the kings food...as a prophetic missionary this highlights how we intregrate into the culture God sends us.
Highly recommended by anyone needing some deeper wisdom.
This was a hard book to get through 😞 I had to read it for a course I was taking. First, misunderstood what the book was going to be about. I thought it was going to be about growing in the prophetic, but it's actually about having create a culture. Not a bad thing I just had to overcome that.
The other problem I had was I found this book really dry. Please get to the point. This book just wasn't for me.
Honestly, I wish someone could fully explain to me the difference between a prophet and a prophetic person. I read it hoping this and some better training help would be in there. It's still pretty special, but not what I was looking for, and it does feel like it's missing something, at least when you're looking at the title and maybe don't feel led to join this teacher's actual school.
Amazing book for church leaders and people who have even a slight prophetic bent. If you think you are prophetic or if anyone has ever called you a prophet, then this book is for you. Learn more about what's going on in you and see how God is speaking to YOU today!
I wanted to rate this book 5 stars but instead gave it 4 because I felt it should have life application questions and/or ministry activations at the end of each chapter to be more hands on since it is advanced training for Prophetic Ministry.
This book has given me insight more in the prophetic and this was really a great read. you don't have to be in the prophetic ministry to be able to glean from this book about what is in God's heart in regards to the prophetic. This book has changed, in a good biblical way, the difference between the old testament prophets and the new testament. Which I repented a lot because of this book... lol... It has opened my eyes that God is really into loving people and setting them free by the use of the prophetic. I love it!! It is a book that is good for re-reading especially to remind yourself who you are and what the prophetic really is....
Kris Vallotton is one of the main ministers at Bethel in Redding, CA. He is part of the school of the prophets, and I think this is one of the books he uses for that school/conference. I wanted to read the book before possibly attending one of the conferences someday.
This book covers how to continue training in prophetic ministry, including discerning a difference between prophetic and prophet/prophetess, what the role of each is, and practical advice for growing closer with God and avoiding typical traps of sin in this ministry. I resonated with a lot of the details that he shared in his own life, and I felt like he shared just enough to be clear without oversharing. His practical advice for beginning in the prophetic is stellar, though I find some of his theology a little shaky (I especially wasn't crazy about his atonement theory, though I understand why he included it). I also disagreed with some of his political statements, and was uncertain about his emphasis on "the nations" (I need to read more about this). Even so, this didn't affect my enjoyment of the book and my appreciation of his practical advice.
The first half of the book is about understanding the calling and office of prophet/prophetess and/or the gift of the prophetic, and the second half is about building a team. He teaches great tactics about mentoring others with this gift, especially seeing and avoiding pitfalls. Basically, you can glean from this second section even if you aren't starting a "team" like he's describing.
He's up front that he doesn't cover "everything" in this book, and he points you to other books he's written on various topics...but he also lists resources besides himself.
I'm excited to read more by him.

This book was unintentionally hilarious, but ultimately just left me shaking my head. Where else could you read such brilliant sentences as "a few years ago, the great prophet Bob Jones died and went to heaven," all delivered with the self-serious confidence of a megalomaniacal charismatic genius who thinks he's a new Jesus Christ? Just to make this clear - Kris Vallotton thinks that two years after his nervous breakdown, God began to talk to and through him in the bathtub. He tells stories of his own ingenuity and problem-solving overcoming everyone else's utter stupidity. His self-deceiving self-love would be terribly entertaining on its own, but the fact that he seems to have many people look up to him because of it left a sour taste in my mouth.
Obligatory note that I received this book for free through a Goodreads first reads promotion.
This book is exactly what it sounds like - advanced training for prophetic ministry. I have his condensed book that goes over more of the core of the gift, but am glad I had the chance to read this one too. Things I personally took away was the difference between Old and New Testament prophecy, the office of the prophet, and global ministry. And that's just hitting the tip of the iceberg! I recommend this book for anyone looking to getting deeper into the gifting and looking for a better understanding of how God speaks to us and others today.
This book was very interesting, easy to read and very instructive and practical. For those of us in a noncharismatic tradition yet blessed with gifts where there are no mentors to develop these gifts, this book affirms and challenges me to think bigger and not limit what God plans for me. Thank you Kris for your gift of teaching and living out your faith. I definitely recommend this book; what a blessing!
This book was fantastic and very challenging. I especially enjoyed the part on values which caused deep introspection. The book wasn't what I thought it was going to be, it's not a how to but more about building a prophetic culture. Even if you're not in the 5-fold ministry as a prophet, the content is still very relevant to all who call themselves Christian. The book exceeded my expectations. My wife and I did the curriculum study together and highly recommend it.
The author lost my trust early on because of his sloppy handling of Scripture. That said, mostly what he's doing is making the right point from the wrong passage. His big ideas are dead on, and the last few chapters are a brilliant exposition of what it takes to cultivate and live in a prophetic culture.
Great book! There is very little on prophecy in the church where I am at and the office of prophet hasn't really been brought in, per Ephesians. This is a fantastic intro to the office of prophet, definitely from Kris's perspective (and as he acknowledges, his own prophetic DNA), but he honors others and points out what a New Testament Prophet is as well as what the gift of prophecy is.
This is absolutely vital to any Christian looking to move into a deeper relationship with God! The revelation of how God can talk through anyone and change anyones life just through a word of encouragement is life changing.
I really enjoy studying this book. The Holy Spirit confirmed so much to me while reading it and He also reassured me on a lot of things that He has been speaking to my spirit. This book is a must read! #Highlyrecommended
