I learned so much about how people from Scotland celebrate Christmas and New Years. This book has a lot of historical information. There are a lot of photos in the book and also some crafts and recipes to make.
This is an excellent series, it covers local variations in how the holidays are celebrated, specifically covering the pre-holidays (like St. Nicholas Day) through New Year's celebrations, and also includes how-to make decorations and recipes. The photographs are gorgeous. Mostly about Hogmanny and Uphellya. Apparently the Protestants really mashed down on Christmas.
WOW! I learned so much from this book. Now all I want is to sit in front of a peat fire somewhere in the Shetland Islands & wait for the Up-Helly-A' fires to start burning! Hogmanay? Who knew?! Just wish this book had more pictures (how old am I, anyway?!).
