This is the autobiography of Derek Hatton, controversial ex-Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council, who was expelled from the Labour Party.

Hatton describes his youth in Liverpool, his commitment and loyalty to the city, his early ambitions to become an actor and his growing involvement in politics after a period of involvement with the Church. He goes on to describe how he found Militant, his work with the council and the dramatic days of illegal budgets, court actions and finally his resignation from the council, followed by expulsion from the Labour Party.

The book is full of Hatton's views - on politics, the Labour Party, the Tory government and the media and his wife Shirley also contributes.
