I've read a few epidemiology textbooks and this one has been the most accessible of the bunch - although including formulas and their explanations there is plenty of content that isn't focused on formula digestion. It also presented observational studies, and case-control study designs in particular, in a more contemporary and balanced light without the disdain that is easily recognized in other texts. As a textbook or access point for interested readers I think it serves quite well.

Clearly this was a textbook, but it did a really good job of explaining basic epidemiology. It is a good resource to look back on.

While it makes the concepts easy to understand, it's horrifically repetitive. Using the same word for word sentences or paragraphs repeatedly. It's really annoying for me.

An excellent entry-level book for epidemiology. Concise and easy to understand. It isn't exhaustive however; you'll need further reading for more advanced topics (multivariate analyses, survey design, in-depth cohort study design, etc).

good ... there were some super weak chapters but for the most part it was a well-written and valuable text book.
