This selection of poetry presents—in a bilingual editions—what the translators regard as the very best poems of Rocco Scotellaro (1923-1953). A political activist, poet, and spokesman for the peasants in his home town of Tricarico, Scotellaro suffered imprisonment because of his socialist principles. Upon his release, due largely to the efforts of Carlo Levi and Alberto Moravia, he went to Naples, where he spent the last three years of his life.
