John R. Gribbin is a British science writer, an astrophysicist, and a visiting fellow in astronomy at the University of Sussex. His writings include quantum physics, human evolution, climate change, global warming, the origins of the universe, and biographies of famous scientists. He also writes science fiction.
I finished the book with a much better understanding of how quantum physics (essentially the physics of the infintessimely small) and how it’s shaped our world.
I do believe there is questions about the fabric of reality which are answered within this discipline. Not least that the fact the events alter as to whether we perceive them or not. For someone who isn’t a physicist surely that’s a message that our attitude to everything actually impacts our reality.
Makes you believe in endless possibilities! It presents the scientific basis on which most of our assumptions are based and the cool sci fi movies are inspired from. A slightly slow and difficult read which is why it’s getting a 4 star. Definitely worth it for those who left the study of science somewhere in the middle and want to remain in the know of things.
I actually bought this book for my son but was intrigued enough to try reading it. Quantum theory isn't exactly my thing but I loved the book and learnt alot, not least of all what the phrase Schrodinger's cat actually means.
Well worth reading if you want a relatively simple guide to quantum physics.
Wildly weird and yet grounded jn science. It took me a while to go through this book, and often consulted Copilot to explain science in layman’s terms, but I profoundly enjoyed reading this book.
The books is very good, but it’s not the entry level book I was hoping for, as a lay person. If this is as simple as the subject matter gets, maybe it’s my intellect that’s limiting me!
