When Jenny Humphrey confessed to a crime she didn't commit-starting the rampant fire that burned down Miller Farm-she thought her life at elite Waverly Academy was over. But her last-minute escape from expulsion made her the most talked-about girl in school. What nobody knows is who saved her. Now at the annual Halloween masquerade ball, Jenny has a plan to unveil her secret admirer. Callie Vernon knows who her Prince Charming is: Easy Walsh. But when he discovered she and Tinsley Carmichael tried to get Jenny kicked out, Easy dumped her on the spot. Now Callie is dressing up as Cinderella in hopes of winning back his heart. Can she convince him she's the one before the clock strikes midnight? Or will her glass slipper-and her heart-be permanently broken? Everyone wants a fairytale ending. But there can only be one It Girl. The sixth scandalous novel in the New York Times bestselling series about the naughty hijinx at an elite East Coast boarding school.
Cecily von Ziegesar is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Gossip Girl novels, upon which the hit television show is based.
Cecily von Ziegesar was born in New York City. Her childhood dream was to grow up to be a ballerina; she began lessons at age 3 and auditioned for the School of American Ballet at age 8, but was rejected.
As a teenager, von Ziegesar commuted to Manhattan at 6 a.m. to attend the Nightingale-Bamford School. After graduating from Nightingale, von Ziegesar attended Colby College before spending a year in Budapest working for a local radio station.
Von Ziegesar returned to the United States to study creative writing at the University of Arizona, but dropped out shortly thereafter.
Back in New York, while working at book-packaging firm Alloy Entertainment, von Ziegesar became inspired to create the Gossip Girl series, which follows the lives of privileged teenagers in New York. The series climbed to the top of The New York Times best-sellers list in 2002. A spin-off series, The It Girl, made the list in 2005.
The Constance Billard School for Girls in Gossip Girl is based upon an exaggerated version of von Ziegesar's alma mater, Nightingale. She also culled events from the book from the lives of her extremely wealthy friends, as well as her own life as a perpetual gossip.
As cheesy as it can be, I still like this series. The plots are simple and the characters are not too irritating. That makes for good reading in my book. I have been enjoying Jenny's tales in boarding school much more than the new version of Gossip Girl.
I ehard a rumor that there might be a GG spinioff on TV- I'd really love to se the It Girl series be made into a show. I like the characters so much more than anyone on GG.
What the hell was Callie's mother thinking? I kind of wish we could've gotten to see someone confront her about it. And I loved Jenny & Tinsley's teamwork.
The It Girl series is a guilty pleasure of mine. It is, by any means, not a worthwhile read at all. It doesn’t grow you or challenge you or and it’s only mildly entertaining, but it contains very fast and hollow drama and gossip that I can no longer have in my personal life, therefore need to consume through fiction.
Tempted is the sixth book in the series and what I like and what I imagine other people won’t like about it is that it is a lot more tame then the other books. It does a lot more wrapping up and ending some conflicts and providing a bit of this gentler time for all of the characters to come down from and process the “dramatic” (in that hollow preteen way) events of the five books before it. I like this as a change of pace. I liked that I didn’t have to worry too much about anyone, and this actually made the book a little more emotional for me. The characters seemed to be thinking a little bit more about what they’ve gone through and what they wanted or what mistakes they didn’t like. I thought that was strange and different for this book, so I had a reasonably okay time reading it.
As usual I am really longing for Heath Ferro’s redemption, which this book toyed with, but I am left feeling that it will not happen, which is devastating since he is my favorite character and a secondary one I don’t nearly get to know enough about. I want a redemption story for him so badly, I get upset just thinking about it.
Although I would not want to recommend this book as any positive LGBT book, at all, I still like Brett and Kara’s bisexuality storylines, even though they are not handled respectfully or with grace (as nothing in these books is), I still enjoy seeing bisexual characters anywhere in fiction.
Overall, this series should only be picked up for those who are looking to read without being affected. This book in particular was worse and better then the others in different ways. I do need a short break before I head into the next one, but hope to finish the rest of this series this year.
tempted (An It Girl novel) June 2008 by Cecily Von Ziegesar pages. 288 $9.99 Poppy ISBN-10: 0-316-02508-9 ISBN-13: 978-0-316-02508-9
Fire? Jenny was known to have set the fire on the barn, so she's going to get expelled from her school, Waverly Owls. But someone bailed her out, someone paid the barn owner to lie and say that one of the cows set the barn on fire. But who? Jenny is out to search for the 'who'. If I were to put myself in Jenny's shoes I would not think of boys that saved her. I would think of my best friends, and someone that thinks Waverly Owls will be no fun without me. Jenny may be small, but she knows a good person from a bad person. If I were to put myself in Cammie's shoes, another main character of Tempted I would completely forget about Easy Walsh. He may be good looking and all, but if he doesn't care about me, then why care about him? He is the only reason why Cammie's failing. He's her obsession. She's so obsessed with him, she's gone crazy. Her mother sending her to therapy is perfectly right, nothing wrong with it, a mother caring about her daughter. Drama? Love? If you want a bit of both, this book is the best idea. But you should start from the beginning, this is the 6th book. But if you would like to read from the beginning, go ahead! Even more exciting. Also, this book will keep you glued to the pages, waiting to see what will happen next.
TEMPTED begins exactly where the last book, LUCKY, left off.
In the beginning of this novel, Callie Vernon is relentlessly lusting after Easy Walsh. The only thing stopping her from having Easy is the fact that he can't stand her. After he found out that she and Tinsley Carmichael tried to get Jenny Humphrey expelled, he wanted nothing to do with her. Callie knows that Easy is her prince. As the annual Halloween Ball approaches, Callie must decide on the most fabulous costume that will convince Easy that he is the one for her.
Meanwhile, Jenny has become something of a legend around campus. There aren't many people who can escape being expelled like she did. But who is her mystery savior? Someone spent thousands of dollars to make sure that she stayed at Waverly, but who?
Overall, this novel was amazing. Cecily von Ziegesar has created yet another spectacularly-written addition to the IT GIRL series. It was almost impossible to put this book down. It was suspenseful and interesting all at the same time. If you are a fan of any of the IT GIRL novels, this book will not disappoint you!
I've always been enthusiastic with this series, but this one took me longer to read than any of the others. Possibly, my enthusiasm is waning. Why? So much happens in each book -- and yet with this book, the sixth in the series, well into the third year of publication for The It Girl books ... and we've made it to the first week of November. Eight weeks into Jenny Humphrey's sophomore year of high school. Truly, Alloy has taken the mandate to keep characters in high school as long as possible to a new height with this series.
That said, Tempted was still enjoyable. If you liked the intrigue in the other books, I'm sure you'll like this one. However, if you were coming to this series for the first time... I don't know that this book would inspire you to read the rest. None the less, you know I'll still read the seventh book in this series when it comes out to see where it goes.
I received this book as a part of the GoodReads FirstReads program.
I didn't like it. The story was on it's way to "good", but WAY too many references to brand names. I am 35 but have a 17 yr old and I can't even see her getting into this because there is literally a reference to a brand name at least every other paragraph if not more...
I read A LOT of YA fiction but just couldn't get into this.
However, easy fast read if you are into this kind of thing...
I only read it because I was asked to. I found it to be so unrealistic. Especially for an african girl like me. So the plot was quite boring...yeah, it was also kinda childish. But hey! It was written for teenagers right? Funny how I'm a teen, yet I feel too mature for it.
Rereading my favorite series from middle/high school for the guilty pleasure nostalgia.
4.5 stars for this one! Much like the last book, it did feel a lot like filler with the same relationships going back and forth and back and forth, again and again and again. Plus we have a completely useless romance that begins and ends all within 100 pages. However, there were a few key elements that made this book really good: most importantly being the discovery of who paid off Mrs Miller, but also the super unlikely friendships that are building. Really liked Heath in this one, as always, and I'm excited about our introduction to Seb.
Lemme just go off on a tangent here though and point out that my favorite thing about these books are the little IMs between random side characters. I never mention it in the reviews because it's so trivial, but I am in love with Alison Quentin and Alan St Girard. They are the only relationship that truly matters and I need more about them in the books. And don't even get me started on Ryan Reynolds.
Yet again, I am here with 3 stars. Will I keep up the streak until the end? What can I say? This series just doesn't disappoint me as much as the OG Gossip Girl series did.
As far as the plot goes: - Easy causes thousands of dollars worth of property damage to the school, and he doesn't get expelled, but when he charters his plane to save Callie from rehab, he gets expelled? How does that make sense? Dean Marymount needs to be fired. He is absolutely terrible at his job! All the characters have left the campus several times under his watch. Kids are underage drinking under his very nose while he boinks Pardee - I was hoping Jenny's saviour was gonna be Brandon, and they were finally going to get together, but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Why do we even need his POV, then? - Jeremiah has SOME audacity. He has absolutely no right to be mad. They. were. broken. up. - Ew Seb

This book is not really a page-turner, but something where you read a chapter every other day. It's ridiculous how entertaining these books are. I can't put my finger on it, because the characters are shallow, the plotlines are so predictable and the amount of clothes-descriptions are hilarious. No character takes a step without anything from gucci, chanel or what not. It's not satire, not even by a stretch, but it's entertainment on the same level as The Bachelor or a rom-com. There is not really a connection to the original Gossip Girl series aside from Jenny and the occasional mentioning of Rufus and Dan.
Overall this one was pretty good not as good as the last one but definitly a few twists in the plot. Some friendships falling apart, mending, and relationships breaking up and making up. A nice dose of the drama :). What will I do when I finish this series? :O oh no!
three stars might be too much because I liked it a little less than the previous books, but two is not enough. The plot is simple and i love seeing the characters grow and interact. another guilty pleasure read
Jenny smoked in Gossip Girl and then she has a smoke in this book and it suddenly is her first one? Pretty sure this isn't the point in a series you rewrite character points.
But this was a good read besides that one fact irking me. I am HOOKED and ready to know what drama comes next.
I bought this book to read almost 10 years ago as a preteen, but I just now finally read it. I think I would have enjoyed it much more in my younger years but it still was not a terrible book.
