Heart's Cry: Principles of Prayer

Rate this book
The human heart cries out for many reasons. But the deepest cry is one of yearning to be filled with God's presence and power. Whether we’re praying, “help me to forgive,” or, “show me Your will,” our hearts long to connect with God. Jennifer Kennedy Dean will help you learn how to listen for God's answer to your heart's cry. In this book, she shares principles of heart-changing prayer. These principles are not easy steps to making God do what you want, but rather they enable you to live fully in God's power, giving Him your heart to change as He sees fit. The book is made up of 12 chapters, each including discussion questions and a meditation and reflection guide. A leader's guide is also included in the back to make the book useful for group study.

Dean has a great way of inviting us into a relationship with Christ. Heart's Cry takes you to a place of surrender by removing barriers of fear. Good read.

Jennifer Kennedy Dean knocked it out of the park again with this book on prayer. There are twelve chapters with great insight and thoughtful nuggets about prayer. For example we are told to pray without ceasing. Of course this is impossible but Dean sheds insight and encouragement understanding prayer is a relationship. She says, "Prayer is the unbroken flow of Christ's life in us that keeps us in the presence of God." Some of my favorite chapters were, A Clean Heart, In Everything Give Thanks, Stand in the Gap, and Be Still and Know.

I am sad she is no longer with us, but I love her writings and studies on prayer. So well done.

This is an amazing book! My mom lended it to me and she says she rereads it every year and I can tell why! It's a very good insight into prayer and brings a whole new personal perspective to it. As someone who often neglects prayer because I'm lazy or just feel like I'm nagging God I definitely am more eager to talk to Him after reading this book! Would 100% recommend! Oh, and if your looking to start a prayer group with friends or within your church it provides really helpful tips and instructions for that. I believe everything in this book was correct and didn't contradict Scripture. Happy reading! ❤
