HORNET #3

Broken Honor

Rate this book
Ice-cold and unbreakable, Travis Quinn is the HORNET team's hard-ass. No weaknesses. Except, of course, for the accident that not only destroyed his career as a Navy SEAL, but left terrifying blanks in his memory. But Travis remembers everything about Mara Escareno--the curve of her lips, the feel of her body...and how he walked out on her suddenly six weeks ago.

Mara could never resist the dangerously sexy Travis, which is probably how she ended up pregnant and disowned by her family. But before Travis can fully process the news, Mara is kidnapped by his enemies and plunged into the violent, merciless world of human trafficking. They want Travis--and the information locked within his damaged memory--no matter the cost. And now Travis's enemies have discovered his only weakness...Mara.

4 - "He's the kind of guy I want." Stars!

Book three of Tonya Burrows’ hugely popular HORNET Series, gives us the continuation of the teams story as a whole, and a more personal insight into a certain Travis Quinn. A guy I have been itching to learn more about as the previous two books progressed. This is a man with a sketchy past, a whole Legion of personal demons and mental health issues partially bought on by a TBI, sustained in the car accident that gave Gabe Bristow the need for a walking cane.

I loved Travis before I read Broken Honor I absolutely adore him now I have finished it. This isn’t an easy book to read in parts, as the series has developed I have become more emotionally invested in its characters, so when they are suffering or hurt, it tugs on those heart strings like a mother-f**ker, and as you would expect, Travis’s tale isn’t pretty for the most part.

Whoever did this would pay. No, fuck that. Whoever did this would die.

Tonya, gives a voice to her men that is equal parts on the outside a strong, dominant, over-protective alpha warrior, but behind the scenes when the shields are down, they are broken in spirit (and often mind), emotionally scarred, yet still fiercely loyal and honorable to the death, no matter who they are defending.

”You are not alone anymore, Travis.”

Mara being Jesse Warrick’s cousin, has had dealings with the team in the past, her association with Travis initially comes through that. But what was only meant to be one night, turns into more, but rather than deal with the emotions he is feeling Travis runs, only problem being he can’t really escape the woman who has captured his mind, body and soul, especially if that woman has then been captured and taken hostage, by the enemy.

She was like his own personal drug, he’d been jonesing for more of her… And now that he’d had her again, he didn’t know if he’d ever be able to quit her.

This isn’t your run of the mill hearts and flowers romance, the subjects tackled are tricky, uncomfortable, and unfortunately an actual fact of life. Tonya has dealt with these issues sensitively, the action wholeheartedly, and the writing brings to the fore that love for your team, and the people who form the family of your choosing is just as strong and relevant as the family that you are related to by blood. Old enemies arise, new enemies are introduced, death, double-crossing and dirty hot sex are all added into the mix.

”Don’t look now your backbone is showing.”

I got too spend an evening with the guys of HORNET, some old friends, the others acquaintances I am eager to make closer connections with. There was nothing bad about that situation I can tell you! Tissues are required, but you will not regret a moment of the ride.

”You gave me a reason to live.”

Quick summary
Former Navy SEAL Travis Quinn (now executive officer for HORNET) has suffered silently from debilitating migraines and blackouts, knowing that his condition will end his career if it becomes public. When he picks up a voice mail message from Mara Escareno, his one-night-stand that turned into a week-long fling weeks ago, he immediately boards a flight to El Paso...his version of a return call because he's not been able to forget her. He arrives just as she's obviously being abducted and the race is on.

A bit of background
What Quinn doesn't know is that the car accident that caused his head injury was no accident. He's also lost his memory for that day and can't recall something vital and the people who wanted him gone then want him gone now. Mara's abduction is about him.

What I loved about this story
There aren't many lull moments. It goes to warp speed in terms of thrills and suspense almost from the start. Those few moments of peace are most often filled with the tender times between Quinn and Mara, who's a curvy young woman who grows out of her passive shell and learns to stand up for herself. Quinn's baggage is huge and once his family history is revealed, it changes everything. Those trying to kill him are ruthless and the HORNET team is seriously at risk when they intervene. I was shocked, sort of, when their identities were made known. It's one of those, "I thought so but really?" kind of reactions.

The bottom line
I love this series, this book and all the characters in the HORNET world. It's a must-read that gets inserted into my reading plan as soon as the books are made available. The tension is almost unbearable because safety isn't always a guarantee for the characters. Quinn's story was a mystery I've looked forward to reading and his secret romance lived up to expectations. I can hardly wait for the next story, especially with so many interesting characters-in-waiting. Bring it!

3.5 STARS

I have read 4 books in this series, including Broken Honor. I am enjoying them all. Miss Burrows have a knack to write a perfect blend of romance and suspense.

I do like Travis. Like other heroes in this series, the heroes are brave and patriotic but clueless in love departmen. Except Jean Luc. I can not wait for his stort.

Mara needs to have more share to be the central heroine. In Broken Honor, Mara seems weak and wishy washy.

Overall, a very enjoyable read.

Pensé que iba a ser mi favorito pero no.

Mara no me cayó tan bien y Quinn a veces era muy cobarde.

Tonya Burrows has scored the hat-trick with the third in her Hornet series. Broken Honor was another stellar read and whilst it brought less passion than its predecessors, it was filled with action, drama, angst and emotion. I have waited patiently for Quinn and he was worth it.

"He needs you both of you if he has any hope of making it."

Injured in a car accident with Gabe that ended his military career, Quinn has been left with a life-altering head injury (if you've read the first two books, Seal of Honor and Honor Reclaimed, they touched on this). The career that saved him after he was dealt blow after blow growing up. Whilst he's not quite as broken as Seth, he's not without his vulnerabilities and insecurities, yet he's strong. And when Mara Escareno is kidnapped by human traffickers, he and the team will move heaven and earth to save her; because not only is she Jesse Warwick's cousin, or Quinn's one/two night stand, but she's the woman carrying his baby.

description

Quinn was indeed another man to adore, because his inner turmoil and conflicting feelings brought emotion. He was frustrating yet completely loveable and the fact that the passion between him and Mara took a back seat in the story was absolutely fitting as there was an intimacy that brought the romantic edge. Mara was easy to like, with a strength, temerity and determination; she wants Quinn but not if he can't accept his responsibilities. And with the banter from the guys as well as the more serious moments between them lifting it exactly when needed, the story flowed, was paced well and brought twists I couldn't have anticipated.

description

And with plenty of the Hornet men remaining single, I can't wait to see who's next (although the path to Jesse's romance does appear to have been paved very nicely). 4.5 stars.

Ms. Burrows, you made me cry. I hated that you did, but oh was it so good. Plus that epilogue, yeah so 5 star worthy. Plus there was plenty of action - in and out of bed. Suspense, double crosses, intrigue it's all in there. Mara and Quinn were amazing together. Although I wanted to smack Quinn upside the head a time or two. She has a great BFF who I really hope gets to join the team. Love the whole Hornet team, but Ian is my fav. Jesse's book is next, and I can't wait.

This books deals with love, pain, pregnancy, human trafficking, and a group of ex-soldier men fighting for those they love and protect. (What more could you want in a book?)

This books had so many twists and turns. What you thought you knew while reading the first two HORNETs books will be thrown around and jumbled beyond all recognition. I loved all the suspense and love in this book. Definitely Tonya's most intense book from the HORNET series.

I absolutely loved Mara and Quinn together. I'm so overwhelmed from this books that I don't even know what to say besides I would recommend everyone read this book. You definitely won't be disappointed except when you get to the last page and all you can think is "That's it! I need more!" I can't wait to read all the other HORNET men's story that for sure if there all as good as this one or the first two.

Tonya surely knows how to write amazing romantic suspense stories, damn!

Romance, sexy times, action, great characters and good/solid writing. Her writing had me yet again devouring page after page and feeling sad when I finish a book because I can’t get enough of it all.

This series is rapidly becoming one of my faves. Cannot wait to dive into the next one and I cannot recommend this series enough!!

'Broken Honor' simply broke me. In both a good and bad way.

One of my favorite aspects of this series is the friendship, family bonds and how these tortured and tough men can find love. Unfortunately, I felt there weren't enough HORNET bonding moments (this time it was more telling they're doing this and that than showing) and I never connected with the romance aspect.

I love Quinn but I never sympathized with Mara. Okay, that's not true: in the first half I was worried for her because even though I didn't get why Quinn loved her, she was essential to his happiness. So yay! Let's save her, let's keep her uninjured.

Then the second half arrived and I was done. Her constant mood and thought swings were frustrating. Yes, she was pregnant but that wasn't an excuse to be angry at Quinn because he couldn't commit. THERE WERE MORE IMPORTANT MATTERS TO FOCUS ON! The guy had a brain injury for God's sake! And not only he had to worry about that, he also had to protect her from getting killed while trying to figure out why they wanted to kill them. And if that wasn't enough, a HORNET member got horribly injured! So Mara, I'm sorry (not) I couldn't sympathize with your problems.

And speaking about the man that gets injured:

I have not cried this much in a long time while reading a book. I love every one of the members. I'm invested with their stories. To know one of them was not safe and sound, BROKE ME. But that's how amazing Tonya Burrows is when it comes to the creation of these men.

My absolute favorite part of this book was the friendship between Gabe and Quinn. They're best friends, more importantly, they're brothers, and to see them go through what they went through gave me ALL THE FEELINGS.

Another aspect of the book that broke me:

I fell in love with the HORNET team since book 1 (Seal of Honor). And to realize the team I fell in love with won't go on for the rest of the series the same way saddens me.

Actually, I think 'Broken Honor' was the last installment of HORNET as we've known it. It leaves me a bittersweet taste to know this was somehow a goodbye to the original team. *cries* And even though I'm looking forward to reading the other books, I'm gonna miss what these three books showed me and made me feel.

OVERALL:

The romance was not my cup of tea. But the suspense plot, friendship and family bonds between the HORNET men made me stick until the last page.

Prepare for a roller coaster you won't be able to leave. And if you haven't read the first two books, go buy them and read them NOW.

Update 2

IT HAS A COVER!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!! I NEED THIS BOOK!!

*PRAYER CIRCLE* for Quinn, yes?

Update 1
OH MY GOD! There's a summary and now I'm dying even more to have this book in my hands! I was not expecting this plot at all!

And OMG! His LAST mission? :'(

NEED THIS BOOK ASAP!

Travis Quinn has been the wounded warrior on the Hornets team. Blinding headaches and blackouts ruined his SEAL career. His teammates worried that one of these blackouts would put them all in danger. The one thing he remembers very well is his time with Mara.......now she's in danger because of him. He will get her safe, or die trying.

I absolutely loved this book. So glad to be back with the guys of HORNET.

I was never a huge fan of Travis Quinn, but getting to really know him in this book makes me think of him in a completely new light. This book made be cry more than once, but every tear was because I fell in love with Quinn instantly. My heart broke for him with his history, but it also made me cheer for him and have hope for his future.

His love interest is Mara Escareno whom you can't help but like. She is the girlfriend you always hope to have in your life. She is the good to Quinn's bad. She has hope when he can't see beyond the crap.

Throughout the book Quinn is dealing with the idea of becoming a father, and trusting that he would be good for a child, not a horrible influence in their life. Along with coming to grips on becoming a dad, Quinn is dealing with doing everything he can to keep Mara safe and get her back home without harm to herself or to the baby. The situation is dangerous in the beginning, then with the appearance of a ghost, things get a lot worse.

The surprises and revelations in this book are so unexpected and amazing, I cannot wait until the next book. The rest of the team is screwed up, and I can't wait to read just how they become better men.

Tonya Burrows weaves deep emotion and intense suspense in her new red-hot romantic suspense, Broken Honor!

Travis Quinn may not remember everything that has happened over the last two years since the car accident that tore apart his life and ended his military career, but he can't forget Mara Escareno. What was supposed to be just a one night stand turned into a week long affair that ended with him disappearing from her bed six weeks ago. Though the consequences of that affair won't be so easy to walk away from. Before Travis can come to terms with the sudden turn of events, Mara is kidnapped. Someone wants the information that is locked away in his head, in memories that Travis himself can't even access. But if he doesn't figure it out soon, Mara and her unborn child will be sold by human traffickers and he'll never be able to make up for his walking away...

I can't get enough of the HORNET series! Broken Honor is the third installment in the series and the much anticipated story of Quinn, Gabe Bristow's (SEAL of Honor) best friend and second-in-command. The plot was fast-paced and kept me turning the pages. Tonya Burrows has the ability to pull the reader right onto the front lines of the action and drama, and I loved every minute of it. The story was packed full on emotional ups and downs thanks to Travis's conflicting emotions and Mara's inner turmoil of loving a man that can't accept their future child. There was also several pulse-pounding twists and turns that took me by surprise.

Travis Quinn is a dominating, strong alpha hero who is honorable to the core, but he is also a heart-breaking character. He had a rough childhood with an abusive father and then once he finally found a happy home with his adoptive parents they were tragically ripped from his life. Travis eventually finds his place in life in the Navy, and then later HORNET, but he can never seem to hold onto anything good. Which is why when he meets Mara he keeps leaving her... before she can leave him. His actions throughout the story were both frustrating and heart-rending. I couldn't help but relate to him. Mara is HORNET team-mate Jesse Warrick's cousin, and such an easy character to like. She made a wonderful heroine for the story that I enjoyed reading. Despite Mara's accepting nature, she refuses to let Travis walk away from her and their unborn child without a fight, but will accept nothing but his all.

As the plot turns to rescuing Mara, the whole HORNET team gets involved. Don't think that just because a few of these ex-military men have already had their stories told that we won't see some major developments with them. Because we do, and some of them will just about rip your heart out. Though Broken Honor didn't have as much sizzle as is predecessors, it still had everything I look for in a romantic suspense. This is a thrill ride you won’t want to miss!

Favorite Line:
"Yes, living with him wasn't easy. But loving him? That was the easiest thing she had ever done, and she wouldn't have him any other way."

My Review:
Definitely another winner with this third installment of the HORNET series. I've only read book #2, and I liked that one. But I think I enjoyed this one even more. The story is a great mix of military style missions and teamwork alongside the difficulties of a new relationship. At the heart of the conflict for it all is the high stress jobs these guys do every day. That affects everything, but most definitely their relationships.

One of the most damaged of the team is Quinn. He was discharged from the SEALS two years ago after a car accident left him with brain trauma. He then joined HORNET and is the team XO, but the damage his brain has sustained has been getting incrementally worse...something he's been hiding from the team. The one positive thing that's been in his life has been Mara and he even managed to screw that up when he ran from her in the middle of the night when he realized he was getting to care too much about her. She deserves better than him.

When he finds an old message on his phone from her, he knows that he needs to reconnect. He doesn't realize that he's exposing her to danger by going to her...and then the suspense line takes off. This is a team filled with scarred and mentally wounded heroes simply trying to survive and continue to make the world a safer place. Tonya Burrows does an incredible job keeping these guys real and vulnerable while at the same time showing them as the incredible, alpha heroes they are.

I loved Mara and how tough she is. She's been shunned by her family and hurt repeatedly by Quinn. But she stands up for herself. I love that she's built like a real person and how much Quinn loved that about her. The scene between Quinn's two friends, Gabe and Jesse, talking about Mara and Quinn's attraction to her is perfect. She is his perfect woman, even though she's not the world's ideal, and I love that.

The book is action packed from the very beginning. It's an incredibly riveting read and the fact that Quinn goes through most of it with incredible migraines and pain makes it that much more suspense-filled. I do love me a wounded hero. I loved him and Mara and could understand both their fears about their new relationship. I loved the team interactions and all the scenes in Russia were spectacularly written. I'm telling you...Tonya Burrows...one of the best romantic suspense writers out there right now. So good!

Re-read - I didn’t love the H/h as much. Lots of angst, but they began to irritate me more. Still 5 stars for the twists alone.

Original review 2/14/2015:
I received a copy of this story through NetGalley from the publisher/author for an honest review. Thank you, thank you! As soon as I received it I realized I wanted to read the first two in the series before jumping into this one. Although I think you can read this one as a standalone, you'll be missing out on the development of each unique member of these misfits teamed together. The team's dynamics and interactions with each other is so well done that you can picture this as a movie. I think you should at least read the first one as it will give you some good background (but, the 2nd one is pretty awesome, too!).

Since I did read all three back to back, this book felt like it had a more raw intensity to it. Not that the 2nd book about Seth and his PTSD wasn't personal or emotional, but this one took it up a level and involved multiple members of the team personally. You know what Travis Quinn has been through from the other stories, but you really see how damaged and broken he's become due to his background and the past few years. Mara was a great multi-dimensional heroine who was vulnerable, spunky, and knew when she had to draw on the strength she didn't know she had.

There is a twist in this book that I literally gasped (my poor husband) and had to put down the book to process it. It was one of those, yeah, I knew something wasn't quite right, but wow, that's so mind blowing to think about emotionally for these characters.

This book had me on the edge of my seat. It's action, adventure, suspense - all with our hero coming to terms with a future with our heroine. For a few moments I was afraid the book would not have the rest of the team, but they jump right in and share equal time in the story. A new character is introduced to the team. I know Jesse and Jean-Luc are likely next, but I'm still most excited about Ian's story. We're slowly chipping away at... the chip on his shoulder? Whatever it is, his broodiness makes me want his story the most.

Never a dull moment in Tonya Burrows Hornet series. Broken Honor kept me at the edge of my seat with its suspense and action scenes yet the romance kept me rooted in place. It was such a great read.

Ex Navy Seal, Travis Quinn is part of the Hornet Team aka Hostage Rescue and Negotiation Team. Unfortunately, he has not been a good asset as things have not been right with him. Black outs plague him endangering himself and his team. Of course, there is more to the black outs which he intends to find out. Unfortunately, it will take a lot more to solve this mystery.

Mara was a one night stand he couldn’t shake off. There was so much more to her that Quinn couldn’t let go off. After finding out their fling resulted to more than he could ever imagine, Mara was kidnaped.

Mara and Quinn were actually sweet together. I thought their pairing was perfect. Mara knew just how to handle Quinn and his quirks. There was a little bit of angst between this couple but was never overpowering. They bantered and maybe even annoyed each other at one point but over-all good together.

Revenge and betrayal was thick in this story but even thicker was the brotherhood and camaraderie this team has. I love the bond they’ve made in such a short period of time. And seeing the team members in each installment that come out, makes their bond even more believable. I thought Ms. Burrows did a great job with each character building. I can’t get enough of them.

Wilde Brothers, I assume are from Wilde Security series were mentioned, and I can kick myself for not reading those books yet. They definitely intrigue me. I’m hoping next up will be Jean-Luc’s story. This hornet is the biggest flirt, and I can’t wait to read his book.

This book was an emotional roller coaster ride and to be honest, it didn't go the way I expected it to at all - it was better than I could have ever imagined!!!! New characters were introduced and we got to know old ones a bit better.

The story itself was fast paced and kept me engaged the whole way through. There were a couple of parts that had me holding my breath and one part where I had a tear in my eye.

I'm so glad Quinn and Mara got their book, and I'm looking forward to Jesse getting his HEA next. I think he's one that really deserves it.

Broken Honor is the third book in Tonya Burrow's HORNET series and although each of the romances work as stand alone stories I would recommend reading the series in order to get the most out of watching the team bond together as a solid group of brothers. I've enjoyed every one of these stories so was expecting big things from Travis and he delivered on every level. This series is just so much fun to read and I'm always excited to get my hands on a new instalment.

We already knew that Travis has been suffering with blackouts and memory loss since the car accident that cost both him and Gabe their careers as SEALs but they have since built the HORNET team into something that they are very proud of. Travis knows his time with the unit is running out though, it is getting harder and harder to hide his blackouts and on the last operation he ended up putting other team members at risk so he is facing the very difficult decision of having to walk away from everything he has worked so hard to build. Travis and Mara had a hot fling six weeks ago but Travis ran scared when he realised he was starting to develop feelings for her, now Mara is pregnant but before Travis has a chance to step up she is taken hostage to be used against him. Travis knows he doesn't have much of a future and that he has nothing offer a woman like Mara but he will do anything to keep her safe. His last job with the HORNETs is going to be his most important one yet but he wouldn't trust anyone else with the woman he loves and their unborn child.

I've liked Travis from the very beginning of the series but I have to admit there were a few times I wanted to punch him in the face for the way he treated Mara at the beginning of this book. He was scared to admit he had feelings for her so he walked away and left her but it was his reaction to finding out she was pregnant that really made me want to slap him. Thankfully he came to his senses very quickly though so I was able to forgive him fairly easily, especially because you can see just how much he adores her. Once he'd got his head around things he was brilliant and he was soon back to the guy I'd respected and started to fall for in the previous books. Mara is a great character too, she is strong and independent and although she wants Travis by her side for her pregnancy she is willing to do it without him, she won't put up with any of his crap and calls him on his bad behaviour when she needs to. They make a great couple and have fantastic chemistry, even when they're not in the best situations but what I really loved was seeing them working together to escape the situation they found themselves in. I also really pleased that although Mara never doubted that Travis would come to her rescue she didn't sit around waiting for him and took an active role in trying to save herself.

What I love most about this series is the bond between the team members and I've loved seeing this go from strength to strength throughout the series. The guys are bonded now and will always have each other's backs. This is tested a little when Jesse finds out that Travis slept with his cousin Mara, he is absolutely livid that Travis went behind his back and broke the bro code but they work things out in typical alpha man style. I've loved Jesse from the beginning and we get to meet his match in this story, I'm not going to tell you much about her but I will say that I think she's going to really put him through his paces and I absolutely can't wait to see it happen!

The HORNET series has been full of action and suspense but I think that the bar was raised even higher in Broken Honor. Tonya Burrows has been laying down the building blocks for Travis's story since the first book and we see a lot of lose ends tied together here. I didn't find this book quite as heart wrenching as the previous instalment but I absolutely loved the epilogue and I was left with a huge smile on my face. The next book can't come soon enough!

BROKEN HONOR is the story of Mara and Quinn and their tumultuous journey to a happily-ever-after. When I heard about the book, the first thing that attracted me was the cover. I love stories with military or police heroes and this one promised an interesting read. The blurb is again very intriguing and sure to attract the readers' attention.

I started out with this book knowing nothing about the author and the series. Only after I had finished the book and loved it so much that I went back to check more about the author and came to know that it is part of the bestselling Hornet series by Tonya Burrows. This book, therefore, can be read as a standalone.

BROKEN HONOR takes us to the murky world of trafficking, dangerous criminals with no conscience and a broken hero grappling with memory loss who is a target both for the criminals and the army. In this fierce and scary environment, we meet Mara who is in love with our hero and the hero in turn also feels strongly for her but is desperately trying to fight his feelings for her. All the action, suspense and danger starts when Mara is kidnapped and Quinn follows her just like Liam followed his daughter in the movie "Taken".

I was so engaged in this book that I could not keep it down until I had finished reading it. Tonya created a realistic and honest world in her book which scared me but also enlightened me to the crass realities of our world. We live in our own happy bubble unaware of the cruel, mindless and heart wrenching atrocities being meted out to helpless people.

The characterization is expertly done and I soon connected with everyone in this book. I could feel the helplessness of Quinn when he could not save Mara from getting kidnapped, the fear of Mara for herself and her unborn child and the undying loyalty of the Hornet team for their fellow teammate, Quinn as they selflessly follow him to the darkest and most dangerous corners of the earth. Tonya's characters are strong, realistic and seem so real that you feel like you have met them and know them already. The romance between Quinn and Mara is heart wrenching, intense and had me rooting for these two. They both are stubborn and fighting their own demons.

The suspense part of the book, the action and the romance is well balanced and developed admirably by the author. Tonya has done her research which shows when we are reading the book. I went places while reading this book and loved every second of it.

All in all, I loved reading BROKEN HONOR and give it 4.5 out of 5. Strongly recommended to all romance lovers above the age of eighteen. Tonya is a talented writer and I am so happy that I came to know about her. Will be checking out the previous books in this series and Tonya's other books.

I received an ARC from the author, the tour organizers and NetGalley and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

This action packed romantic suspense novel treats us to the romance of Travis Quinn and Mara Escareno. A one night stand led to a few more nights which led to an unexpected pregnancy, one that shocks Quinn and scares him to death. He's dealing with a traumatic brain injury that results in him experiencing memory loss episodes and in no way considers himself fit to be a boyfriend never mind a father. But when Mara is kidnapped by human traffickers and it all appears to be leading back to the car accident that claimed his memory, come hell or high water he'll find her and bring her back. But will rescuing her make him realize how much he'll miss if he doesn't give their relationship a chance?

I was thoroughly entertained by this story! From the very beginning the action starts and doesn't let up, leading the reader and Quinn and his team on a tense chase across the continents to track Mara and bring her back. I confess, I'm a big fan of espionage type thrillers so this story was right up my alley. Though Mara is the victim, she exhibits a strength that clearly comes across as she uses her wit and forethought to help herself as much as possible. I really liked how her strength of character came through and her unwillingness to put up with anything but a 100% effort on Quinn's part to make a go of their relationship. She knows she deserves a man who is all in and though she loves Quinn she won't settle for less. Quinn is the tortured hero, bound by his memories of a tragic childhood and caught up now in this mess of feelings for Mara that alternately scare him and enthrall him all the same. His emotionally battered state competes equally with his physically battered one. Together they share a sexual attraction that won't be denied despite not knowing where the future lies. Besides the two main characters however, a large part of the success of the story is Quinn's HORNET team, characters introduced in previous novels in the series that are each unique and entertaining individuals. I loved the witty banter between them all, their willingness to go the distance for each other and the camaraderie that they share. I was also impressed with the level of research done for this story exposing the horrible situation that many young women in poorer situations find themselves in with respect to human trafficking.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are more stories to tell in this series, and I can't wait to see what comes from this author next! 5 action packed stars!

Note 1: A copy of this story was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for review.
Note 2: a portion of the proceeds from sales of this book will go to support charities involving in aiding victims of human trafficking.

Be prepared dear reader, to be suffering a severe case of emotional whiplash after finishing this book, as Tonya Burrows drags the readers emotions all over the place and it's so worth it.

I was hooked from the moment that the author said this book was going to be Quinn's story and I finished the book with a big fat happy sigh. Okay, maybe a few deep breaths too.

This is a fast paced, intense, action packed book that doesn't let up on the emotions or the breath holding moments. There are also a few times when you will want to throw your ereader or book across the room or have you yelling no, just no. Though the author takes us on a wild ride, rest assured there is a happy ending.

Quinn and Mara are just fantastic together. It so much fun to see Mara go toe to toe with the big bad ass that is Quinn. Throw in an unexpected pregnancy and you really get to see what both these characters are made of. Steel, that's what. Let's not forget the chemistry that sparks between them all the time. These two are hot together.

"Christ, she was like his own personal drug, and he’d been jonesing for more of her since November. And now that he’d had her again, he didn’t know if he’d ever be able to quit her. Yeah. He was in trouble."

When Mara is kidnapped in order to get to Quinn, all hell breaks loose and Quinn recruits his HORNET team to help save her and their unborn baby. But when things end up FUBAR and the secret that Quinn has been carrying in his damaged brain finally comes to light, can the good guy/s save the day and the girl? Or will it all be too late.

This is the third book in the Hornet series and each keeps getting better. While it can be read as a stand alone, if you haven't read the other books at the end of this one, you will. We get all the guys from the team and their camaraderie that at times makes them seem more like family than a team of mercenaries.

So much happens within the pages of this book that it's hard to convey it all. But I will say that once you start you might not want to stop till you are finished. And you WILL finish this book with a happy grin. I loved the epilogue so much. Sigh......Quinn with a baby.

I am already looking forward to the next book, you will have no trouble guessing who it will belong to. It's going to be another fun ride.

I was supplied a copy of this book by the publisher for an honest review.

Do yourself a favor and pick this series up. Each book is fantastic, full of drama, love, angst, and humor. I'd been looking forward to Quinn's story for a long time, and was so excited to finally have it in my hands!

Tonya Burrows made my heart hurt and my face leak, but damn, this was a fantastic read.

3.5 stars, better story than most romantic suspense books, there are a lot of ups and downs as well as twists and turns. The story will keep you riveted. My only critique is that there might be a little too much action. The pace is frenetic and I wanted a chance to savour the characters a more.
