Suarez: The Remarkable Story Behind Football's Most Explosive Talent

Rate this book
Bestselling soccer biographer Luca Caioli tackles his most controversial subject yet—Barcelona's record signing of Luis Suárez. When in late September 2013 Suárez, a Liverpool player at the time, returned from a landmark ten-match ban for biting an opponent, one in a long line of high-profile misdemeanors, it seemed unlikely that he would ever win over his critics. In the months that followed, he scored an astonishing thirty-one times, propelling Liverpool back into the Champions League following a four-year absence. The World Cup in Brazil followed, but Uruguay's Suárez saw his action-packed tournament curtailed after just two games, two goals, and one moment of madness.

As an Ajax-fan who started following the club when they were not in their best period, there was one player who stood out: Luis Suarez. One of the most chaotic and controversial players of all time. Brilliant striker with his, somewhat, clumsy style of dribbling he was very entertaining to watch. Of course also known for his controversial moments where he bit his opponents, his racist incident with Evra and the handsball against Ghana at the World Cup 2010. The perfect player to write a book about.

I kinda enjoyed reading this biography, even though it was already written in 2014 so a lot of his accomplishments (like winning the Champions League with Barcelona) were obviously not in the text. Still it was fun to read about his upbringing and some backstory about Uruguay and the culture there. Fun to read when he moved to The Netherlands and had a culture shock (interesting to read as a Dutchie who is used to our coldness and rule based society). In England it became total chaos where the tabloids are a lot meaner and where he developed into an even better player.

Good read overall if you like the player, although it could sometimes meander on a little bit and I would've liked a little more depth with his relationship with certain managers and players.

What makes the Suarez as we sees him today? How he grows up during his childhood that had made him a hardworkers, full of surprises and not to forget a 'hungry' person when he is on the field? This book has all the answer for the questions above.

This biography follow Suarez's life from an outsider, the third-person point of view. The writer sums up the story from the interview he has done with the closest relatives to Lucho, his coaches, team-mates, et cetera. Then the writer merge it with the story that comes from all types of media, like the daily newspaper from all over the world to the TV documentary to name a few. As a result a good biography book as we can go through Suarez life from his early years.

Hopefully the man himself can come out with his own biography in the near future. Who knows what going on through his mind during all this years right? Tell us your side of story Luisito.

The world's no. 1 explosive talent,Suarez he is equal to Messi and Ronaldo. He shared the Golden Boot 2013/14 with Ronaldo. With just 4 bans and 2 fines he [Suarez] from Urreta FC , Nacional FC, FC Groningen, Ajax FC to Liverpool FC and to Catalonian club Barcelona. His 3 bites and racially abusing Patrice Evra lead to his long bans.He is a great star that should be in Liverpool legends and maybe he is.
