Chantal has been waiting for years to finally takeover her family's hotel business. On the day she's supposed to assume control her aunt drops a bombshell in her lap. She can't lead the company unless she honors an agreement her deceased father made ten years ago when he signed a merger agreement with his best friend, stipulating she'd marry. Not just any man, but tall, mocha colored Stephan Lexington, soon to be head of his family's jewelry business.
Years ago, Stephan awakened her to passion, stole her heart and has become Mr. International Playboy ever since. Soon after the wedding, he leaves the country believing that her only interest lies in her company. Bound by family honor in a marriage of convenience, Chantal vows to win over her estranged husband and prove to him that the passion that runs in her veins is for him and him alone.
After you read this book, you will not want to miss "Take this Man", Liza and Tyler's story.
I love romance, and writing is one of my greatest pleasures in life, outside of my husband and daughter. My belief in happily ever after began when I was sixteen and started reading romance books. Now, as an erotic romance author, I try to show that every woman, no matter her color, age, shape, or size, deserves a high level of passion in her life. Residing in North Carolina with my family.
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Marriage Clause"! I was TOTALLY captivated from the very beginning and couldn't put it down until the end. Can you imagine a marriage clause that neither Stephan nor Chantal knew about?!! I couldn't help but wonder what would happen next. My heart broke for them when I first found out they wouldn't be able to find a true love of their own. However, the fact that Stephan and Chantal had meet years ago at her prom and since that meeting, Chantal had fantasized about their first kiss and wanted more from Stephan, aided in making the story more INTRIGUING. And after they met each other, AGAIN, the attraction was instantaneous and quite heated; I ONLY hoped something good would come out of the awful marriage clause! Despite the fact that they weren't happy about their situation, they were both determined to do the honorable thing for family and business. And they both secretly hoped that they would fall in love with each other and eventually have a REAL marriage. But could they get past their insecurities and misconceptions and learn to trust each other and build a lasting relationship?!!! I enjoyed the characters, main and secondary; they kept me wrapped up in all the drama. The storyline had lots of twist and turns to hold my attention and I often found myself moved to tears, and then at other times LOL. Even though I thought the dialogue didn't always have a smooth flow, I still found it to be a very sensual and entertaining tale. And I would DEFINITELY keep an eye out for more novels by Mrs. Hines.
The only reason I gave this book 1 star is because at least the h is supposed to be a successful business woman. I couldn’t believe this book was written in recent years. The style of writing as well as the ideas being peddled here, were so old fashioned and sexist it was hard for me to read the book at times. Chantal kept complaining about how sexist some of her board was but so was she, her husband and his mother. Here is a man who without having a single conversation with her, decides that he should be the center of her universe when she doesn’t even know him. Instead of trying to spend time with her, get to know her and offer her support (as she just became CEO while being very young) he rushes off in a huff to Spain after taking her virginity. For nearly 6 months he doesn’t even bother to call her and try to form some sort of bond. For some ridiculous reason she lives with his parents while he isn’t even there and his mother has the gall to tell her that she should make herself more available. I don’t remember his mother giving the same speech to her son. I found it insulting that she had to go and seduce him or even give him the time of day after the way he treated her. The whole she loves him feel flat to me because she didn’t really know him and what she knew was his appalling behavior. He never apologized for behaving like a spoiled brat. The whole Italian fiasco was the worst for me. We are led to believe that a CEO in this position would revert to being the little woman counting on her husband to save her instead of calling in the best legal team possible and having them put in a robust defense together with the proper investigation team. Simply awful.
This is my first read by Ms. Hines and it was just an okay read....For over half of the story I did not like Stephan at all really and really wanted to slap the hell out of him......and Chantal you couldn't help but feel sorry for her.....the story itself need a little more romance or something my problem with the story started with the wedding night, I won't say anymore on that but if Chantal was to ever find a back bone then that should have been the time.......The secondary characters were really fun and I found myself wanting to read more about them......Although this was my first read by this author and did not make my list of favorites I will defintely give Ms. Hines another try.......
