This is a Nup! from me at 21%. The writing wasn't gelling with me and felt very stilted and unreal. Onto bigger and better things!

This novel is a cosy mystery that blends suspense with emotional growth in a charming Cotswolds village.

The plot centres on Emma Sharpe, a former hotel manager, who uncovers a forgery ring and a murder while restoring a historic inn.

The story stands out for its strong atmosphere, relatable heroine, and well-paced mystery.

The author handles Emma’s evolution from outsider to community member with care.

Her friendships with Kate and Rose provide emotional warmth.

The book vividly depicts the setting of Merrivale, and the low-stakes mystery remains interesting throughout.

The writing is clear and character-driven, with just enough intrigue to sustain tension.

Some early exposition slows the opening chapters, and the unresolved identity of “X” leaves a narrative thread hanging.

Inspector Harris’s shift in attitude feels abrupt, and Greene’s motives could use more clarity.

Fans of cosy mysteries and village dramas will enjoy this warm, well-crafted story. It’s ideal for readers who appreciate slow-burn tension, strong female friendships, and a satisfying, community-based mystery.

This book has the main character, Emma Sharpe working on renovating an old Inn with her trusty Jack Russell, Cooper. While working in the Inn, she discovers a forged painting in the basement and to make matters worse, the town historian is found dead. Of course, Emma along with her smart dog, Cooper and the help with some friends, she decides to investigate on her own. The faster the murder and forgery can get solved, the faster she can move on with the renovation and the whispers of the locals would stop. This is a fast moving mystery with twists and turns that keeps you turning pages. I recommend this book and can't wait to see what Emma gets involved in next. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here is strictly my own.

Excellent mystery. Leaving the city and moving to a small quiet little town Emma is ready for a new beginning. She wanted to refurbish the towns Old Bell Inn. She wasn't planning on getting involved in murder and forgery. That was the last thing on her mind.
When strange accidents start occurring Emma and friends start searching for answers. That's when the mystery unfolds. We'll worth the time to read this excellent mystery!
