This is the first book in the Destiny Revealed series and they will need to be read in order.
Xade is one tough-ass woman. She knows she was born Fae, but nobody knows what type. She has been bitten and turned into a vampire. In her world, she is a rare person to have retained her Fae powers when gaining the powers as a vampire. Bullied as a child and outcast by both Fae and Vamps, Xade has only one friend, Shauna, a powerful witch.
Deysyl is a vampire, the strong arm of the Vampire Council, and Xade’s ex.
When a homeless man possessed by a Prophet tells Xade, “They are coming for you, all of them. Your choices will either save you or doom you. Run, girl, run,” she knows that she is serious trouble. As frightening as a Prophet is, they are never wrong. Soon she and her friends are in daily battles for their lives, including a trip to hell and back. The biggest battle, The Exhibition, is yet to come when all species will fight for supremacy.
I’m a sucker for a plea for help. When one author put up a post stating that she was looking for bloggers for another author who was looking for reviews to be posted on release day, I volunteered. Since the release was supposed to be in 36 hours, I couldn’t promise a 7am review, as is the usual criteria, but here we are.
I have never before read anything from Ms. Ketteman, so had no expectations going into this. I loved how strong Xade is. Even when contemplating her love life, she doesn’t become the simpering femme that so often happens in paranormal romances. She remains bad-ass to the last page. The characters are well-developed and there were enough unique elements that you will not find another story to compare. I am looking forward to the continuation of this series. I seriously need to know what happens at The Exhibition.
Thank you Catherine Stovall for recommending this book to me.
Now don't get me wrong. I didn't hate this book. I didn't come close to hating it. I thought it was funny, honestly. The characters were witty and the interaction between them all was comical. But when I sit down and think about it, as far as a story goes, this one was very flat. It's a good, quick read. I read it in about two hours, so it's just not that long really. I thought it was interesting enough to keep me engaged. Did I mention it was funny? But, and this is a big but, it feels too familiar and for being so similar to something else I've read, it just isn't done well enough. I won't be continuing the series. If anything, I would recommend Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series over this, because at least you get a little bit more background about the world, and the characters don't feel quite so 2-D. I think this is an easy to enjoy story, but an easy to forget one as well. Take that as you will.
The plot felt very very familiar. A human world filled with factions fighting a war for power. Does this not scream Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series? Yes. Yes it does. But wait, the main character has to be different, right? Or not. A Hunger Like No Other is also centered around a half vampire half fae girl. Weird, right? The biggest problem for me with the plot is that the main heroine, Xade, kept getting stronger! It’s like she has no dang weakness. Oh no, she got over powered, better pull another power out of her butt. Oh no, there’s too many enemies, better pull yet another power out of nowhere. I just don’t think the bitchy heroine should keep getting so much stronger.
If a hard core heroine with a snarky personality and similar secondary characters are to your enjoyment, Samantha Ketteman will provide dubious amounts of all. Xade Daniels learns she has only scratched the surface in assuming her unknown heritage, and powers superior to ancient's, would lead to alterations her mind nor heart could have ever prepared her. This novel is fast paced and to the point. No lingering adverbs to stretch the book out. Only an excellent story with a unique prose to satiate all of your reading needs.
Glimpse of Destiny is a gem among the paranormal, romantic - thriller genre. With vampires, witches, grim reapers, demons, valkryie, elven, and even fae existing in one amazing novel, my anticipation for the second installment has me hanging by a thread.
A very small amount of editing is needed, however; the story line and characters are well developed. Xade is wild, foul mouthed, overconfident and hilarious. She's not nice but has heart, rightfully so. The entire sup world wants nothing more than to see her destroyed just because of her bloodline even though she doesn't know what they are. She needs to keep herself alive while protecting the small amount of friends she does have. One witch and best friend, an ex-lover assassin hired to kill her and a unexpected reaper. And that's all that stands between her and the supes. There's another allie but her and her ragtag team must charge through Hell to rescue him first. Interesting and compelling read.
This was a pretty good book usually I hate third person view but half the time I just forgot it was there. My most favourite of the book was delsly and cafe the tension between the two was quit amusing and made you just want to fix the problem between the two. My dislike of the book was the ending i didn't like how it closed but other wise it great I can't wait to the second book
I found the writing in this, including the over-use of words and phrases, truly awful.
The writing was childish, leaving a bad taste in your mouth, and for me, ultimately leaving the book to be ditched to the wayside. To add insult to injury, the female character was annoying and bordering on the ridiculous.
"Glimpse of Destiny" is a paranormal romance involving a kick-butt and powerful female with a mysterious past, quirky witch best friend, and a hot hitman for an ex, all of which can add up to a great story.
in her zest to introduce all the characters, the author has presented all the worst attributes of her characters. She has given us nothing to become attached to, thus becoming attached to the character.
