Jeff Probst is the multi-Emmy Award-winning host and executive producer of the popular series "Survivor."
After years of young fans asking, "When are you going to do a Survivor for kids?" Jeff took his wife's advice and created a children's adventure series based on Survivor -- where the kids are the ones STRANDED.
In The Sabotage, the second book in the Stranded: Shadow Island series, the Benson-Diaz kids have won an advantage in the Raka Nau competition in their quest to get a boat to get them off of Shadow Island. However, this makes them a threat in the eyes of the other competitors, leading one to kidnap Buzz to slow them down.
This very clearly a middle book, without much of it's own beginning, middle, and end. But the adventures of the kids are exciting and compelling, if completely unrealistic. Plus, once again, this book is about sticking together as a family, a great them running through all six of the Stranded books.
By far the best book in this series yet! The competition had me clenching my muscles like I do when I watch contestants compete in Survivor! And that fact is just such a great one, I mean, I cared for the characters that much! I don't usually have that much of a connection. But anyways, this book was fast-paced, action-packed, and so fun to read! I found so many similarities between Survivor and the Raku Nau race, A.K.A. the endurance competition. And the imagery in this book.....mmmmmm! I felt like I was on the island with them! And Jeff, man, he even manages to write in a romance aspect to it! I love it, love it, love it.
That ENDING THOUGH! I can't wait to see what happens next! It had me almost crying.
I think it was a really good book because 4 kids are stranded and somehow they all survive and they only have 2 friends on an island and one speaks English and the island's language and the other one just speaks the language of the island.
I thought this book was awesome! There was lots of suspense, and you could never tell what was going to happen next. One of the most exciting parts was when Carter flipped the bridge over to keep Chizo from finishing Raku Nau. Chizo fell off the bridge, and out of the competition for good. The best part about that was that Carter fell out of the competition just so Chizo would, too. Now Carter's chance of ever being rescued from the Naukala's island is very, very small. Another part that made it exciting was when Chizo captured Buzz, and when Vanessa, Carter, Jane, and Mima tried to get him back. Chizo stole the raft that Buzz, Carter, Vanessa, Jane, and Mima fought so hard for. Another suspenseful part was when Vanessa almost fell out of the competition when they were in the second challenge. This book was one of the best I've ever read, and I literally can't wait for the next one to come out so I can see what happens!
The Sabotage is the second book a new series by Survivor's own Jeff Probst. Geared to middle schoolers, This installment continues with Jane, Vanessa, Carter, and Buzz in the middle of a fight for survival. Having almost being rescued by their parents after their first shipwreck, the kids find themselves on a new island, this time inhabited by the Nakula people. Their only hope of survival and rescue pits them against other island youth in a race to the other side of the island through the forest. It's Survivor meets Hunger Games.
I like these stories even if they are for middle school kids. Well thought out and enjoyable for youngsters and adults.
I really like this book because of all the characters emotions. In this book all of the characters are still the same. They are in a rivalry with other teenagers on this island in the middle of nowhere. Their only problem is that the other teenagers on this island don't want to be rescued. They want to protect their island, and stay there. This book also has a cliff hanger of an ending which I really enjoyed. I can't wait to read the next book in this series! These books are great I encourage all of you to read this book and all the other books in this series. I would recommend this book to the ages 10 and up. If you liked adventure you will like this book.
Oh my! What a cliffhanger! I could not read this book fast enough to find out what happened in this next part of the Raku Nau challenge. What will Buzz, Carter, Vanessa, Jane and Mima do next? Bummer that we have to wait until 2016 to find out!
Each and every book in this series puts the characters in such terrible situations, that you die from waiting for the next book. The struggle brings out the best in them.
Another great book in a very fun series. I liked the Survivor-like challenges in this one. Too bad the books are always so short with no subplots, but I guess that goes with the genre.
