"His old life was crazy. Her old life died. Can they hope to build one together that will last? Full length novel in the Love Under Construction series!" Tony is a successful businessman whose personal life has been almost unbearable thanks to his crazy ex-wife. Nikki lost her husband and children in a tragic accident and barely has a life. It looks like there's a "happily ever after" on the horizon - until an ecoterrorism group with a personal bone to pick threatens everything. First full-length installment in the Love Under Construction Series and includes the prequel "The Groundbreaking," nine character vignettes of the main characters in the series. Tony Walters operates a successful construction company in Louisville, Kentucky; he's anything but successful in his personal life, thanks to a mean-spirited, mentally ill ex-wife. Nikki Wilkes has lived for five years with almost no life, thanks to a drunken driver's mistake that took her husband and children from her. It seems the universe has aligned to make sure they meet, and their shy and sweet attempts to build a relationship blossom just as an ecoterrorism group begins to threaten the construction business. But as time goes by, it becomes clear that the threat is directed personally at Tony, and as the group's efforts escalate, it looks like answered prayers for a special someone in their lives might morph into not having a prayer for a "happily ever after." Through it all, family and friends stand by them and add to the madness, mayhem, and hilarity, while the bedroom smokes with enough scorching, crazy, adventurous sex to set everything on fire. The main characters are all over the age of thirty-five, and most are well over forty. A fun, mature, erotic romp with enough danger to leave the reader hanging. Not a stand-alone; the four novels are designed to be read in order for greatest enjoyment. It'll make you say, "I didn't see that coming!" more than once and leave you smiling! WARNING: This book contains BDSM themes and criminal violence. Not suitable for readers under 18 years of age. Reader discretion is advised.

Before reading Laying a Foundation be sure to read The Groundbreaking, it will introduce you to all the characters in the Love Under Construction series.
Laying a Foundation is Tony Walters and Nikki Wilkes book. Tony is the owner of one of Kentucky’s most successful construction companies. Nikki works in a flower shop. Nikki is still dealing with the loss of her husband and two grown children, Tony is miserable from a marriage to a crazy woman who is still causing issues after being divorced for 16 years. Tony and Nikki have admired each other from afar for several years but have never spoken. One visit to the flower shop changes everything. A budding relationship starts to form and even though there are people out to destroy Tony’s company life couldn’t get any better after that first date.
Characters: Reading the Groundbreaking helps you already form a bond with all the characters. The connection to all the characters just seemed to click and bond from the beginning of this book. Most of the characters in this book are mature older adults which seems to be rare in books these days. It was refreshing and just made the characters and story more real life.
Sex: lots of hot amazing sex
Religious: no
Would I recommend to others: yes
More than one book in the series: yes and they need to be read in order and I cannot wait to read the next one!
I don't do spoilers, just know that this is an amazing love story, Very well written, characters you can identify with, no whiny heroines and believable relationships. Good, strong characters dealing with circumstances that are real to life, not some out there made up kind of thing that nobody would believe.
Laying a Foundation is an emotional story, I recommend reading The Groundbreaking to get acquainted with the characters and their stories, it's a big help getting to know the history behind each secondary character when you meet then in this story.
If I could give it 10 stars I would, this is the best book I've read all year.

After reading the short novella of this series, The Groundbreaking, I knew I was in for a wild ride, but never in my wildest dreams would I become so connected to the Walters family! All of the main characters are older, 40’s and 50’s and as I am 53, I wanted to see what all of the fuss was about needing a fan to cool off after the sex scenes. Come on, sex in their 50’s? Really? Lets just say that after reading this book, my husband has a new appreciation for me! Although after reading about these hot older Italian men, I may trade him in for one!
This story is very complex and has many different stories wrapped all in one. I will not recap it here as that would take the entire book, I am not kidding. There is really no way to highlight anything. So I have collected some quotes to help other readers understand:
“Oh, that would be great! What a good idea.” Annabeth smiled warmly. “You know, it’s been really nice talking to you. Most people recoil in horror when they find out I have a girlfriend. You didn’t.”“Of course I didn’t . The heart wants what it wants. And everyone deserves love, don’t they?”
After all the horrible years with Dottie, there was no way he’d get involved with any woman. His hand was a much better sex partner than Dottie had ever been, and gave him a lot less trouble. And he’d never had to have it committed to a mental ward.
“I think it’s about time I started living a more spontaneous life, stop planning everything out to the letter, start fucking you when I want, where I want, how I want, and making you want it too. And do you want it?” he asked with a seriousness that startled her. “Want it? God, I crave it. Just cut loose!”She laughed back and kissed him. He turned and carried her up the steps. “Let’s go finish this in the bedroom. I’ll show you ‘cut loose!’”
“Are you trying to kill me?” she asked as he burrowed his face into her hair and kissed the top of her head. “Yes. Death by sex,” he chuckled as she licked his nipple. “Correction: Death by great sex. Big difference,” she giggled as he kissed the top of her head again. “But what a way to go!”
“Sometimes all I think about all day is making love with you, precious. I want you so bad I can’t breathe.” Tony picked up the pace. …….. Are you close?” Nikki moaned, “I’m right there. Drive it home, babe.”
My lesbian sister’s wife is having my baby, my new four-year-old son is black, and my wife is expecting an eight-year-old. Plus I just found out one of my uncles is just my half-uncle, I have a new half-uncle, and I had a cousin who was shot and killed by my mother. Unless some dead relative comes back to life or I’m a zombie and nobody’s told me, those damn soap operas got nothin’ on me.
This is just book 1! I am absolutely loving this series so far and I am immediately going out to buy an industrial sized fan and starting on book 2, Tearing Down Walls!

OMG, you just have to read this book! At first I thought it was just going to be a romance/erotica story. It was so much more. There was a mystery that lasted until almost the end of the book. Then just when you thought that everything was sunshine and roses, BAM!, there comes a twist that you were not expecting. This book had me laughing, mad, tearing up, and shaking my head. These characters are just so colorful that you cannot help but to fall in love with them. One thing that I loved about the book is that it was about mature (50 year old) adults that had the nerves of teenagers. By this I mean that they were terrified to talk to each other. I kept waiting for something major to happen with her parents. It did not happen in this book, maybe in one of the later books. I cannot wait to read more about Vic. He is so gentle and caring while at the same time, can be a badass. This book was so entertaining, especially some of the hot sex scenes, that I now want to read the full series. Totally a 5 star book in my opinion.
Tony and Nikki Are the main characters and most of the action is played out between those two. It’s certainly easy to get into the story. Both have an interesting background story, and initially it’s all about how these two meet and get together. I though: ‘yes, finally!’ when it did happen, yes, I was rooting for them. The story with Tony’s deranged ex-wife and the problems experienced with the ‘Eco Group’ will keep you interested rather than just reading about the budding relationship between Tony and Nikki. And I wanted to continue reading to see the conclusion to their troubles. It is easy reading. The bedroom action of Tony and Nikki is described in detail, so careful if you don’t enjoy this. But my guess is if you don’t like erotica you wouldn’t have picked up this book. The erotic writing is certainly very good (in my humble opinion) without slipping into the unpleasant and embarrassing (easily done with erotic writing). I do read mainly on the train commute though, and it was not the right reading for the train journey I have to say. But that’s a personal one for me and I did enjoy reading the book at home.
What I loved about this story is that the main players are in their 40's and 50's. Yes, even if you are over the age of 25 you can have great sex with all the trimmings. By this stage in their life, most of us have had a big amount of good, very good, bad and very bad experiences and the author certainly shows this. And also, no matter how devastating your experiences might have been - death, trauma - there is a chance for all of us. Is it always realistic? No idea, but this is fiction, and it is meant to make us feel good.
I have read the Prequel and Part 1 of the Series so far. The prequel is supposed to introduce the main characters and it certainly does so. However, I think that this information could have been incorporated into Book 1 easily? Certainly, all the characters have their own background story (and let's face it, who of us doesn't), they are not that complicated so that a reader won't understand them if woven into the story. We get to know the main characters pretty quickly, and some of the others do have, in my opinion, a too minor part in order to fully needing to understand their background. Having said that, the same time, it is nice to have an extra 'book' to refer back too to see 'who was that again? The Prequel is now also available together with Book 1, and I think that was a wise idea.
I enjoy a book where the main characters are older and an opportunity for second chance love. Tony Walters is 57, and owns a very successful construction company. His personal life is very sad based on his ex-wife’s comments, tearing down his self-confidence with women.
Nikki Wilkes, 51, works in a flower shop and spends her free time alone. She lost her husband and two grown children five years ago in an accident. Her parents cut her out of their lives and she is on her own.
Nikki and Tony see each other at the gym for several years but never speak to each other, both somewhat damaged and unwilling to take a chance on someone.
Once Tony and Nikki take that first step, they are fascinated and infatuated with each other. I’ve never read about a couple who are so open and honest with each other about several subjects. I was very surprised to read some of Nikki’s comments, as she seemed so withdrawn and a little meek.
The more time they spend together, the more they care about each other. When it comes to their sexy times, WOW, each time is highly erotic. Tony is amazed at how open Nikki is about what she likes about sex, and they have a LOT of good times together. Nikki is something Tony never thought he would have in life, a woman who cares about him, wants to cook for him, shows her interest in his life, etc. She isn’t interested in him for his money but he shows her constantly how much he cares for her.
This older couple is willing to go to any lengths to fulfill the other’s needs and wants, whether sexually or emotionally. I loved how much they showed they cared, in a myriad of ways.
Meanwhile, there is an environmental group that is causing a lot of damage to Tony’s work sites and no one can catch them. The suspense increases as more damage is caused and threats to Tony and those he loves. Security is hired for everyone but more and more events happen. Along the way, Tony’s ex-wife keeps popping in and upsetting everyone. She is one CRAZY woman and caused so much damage to Tony and his children through the years.
The characters are well developed and the storyline keeps you reading page after page. I loved reading about Tony’s large family, and how they accepted Nikki.
All of the characters add to the richness of the story, with all of the family interactions, employees, security, etc. I look forward to reading this next book in this series.
*I received this book free from Drue’s Random Chatter in exchange for an honest review*
First of all I have to say that this book had me conflicted. It is so very long and I thought that some of the scenes could have been edited out without loss to the storyline, but at the same time I enjoyed reading every last detail. However, it did start kind of slow for me and with its length it seemed to take FOREVER to get to the really good stuff, but it was well worth the wait.
Tony Walters, Walters Construction, hasn’t had it easy when it came to matters of the heart. He has a psycho ex who randomly shows up to cause trouble in not only his life, but also their children’s. He got to basically be a single dad of two incredible, but now grown, children. Lucky for him, he’s surrounded by a network of loving family and friends.
Nikki once had the life she’d wanted, a wonderful husband and two lovely children, but they were all taken tragically from her, and until Tony she hadn’t recovered from the loss. She didn’t have a support group like he did, her family basically forgot she existed, and she was left to herself. Utterly alone.
But what happens when two people take a chance…they end up happy. Well, after someone stops trying to kill them anyway.
This books has an engaging love story, a who did it and who keeps doing it type of mystery, murder, steamy sex, humor, and a family twist that leaves you saying “HUH! Didn’t see that!” Even if you saw some of it coming, I can guarantee that you do not see all of it.
My Favorite Laughable Moments: This book has lots of little things throughout it that made me laugh, but nothing like Tony trying to talk to his son, Clayton, about sex and dating. I laughed soooo hard at Clayton’s reactions!
“Shit! Really, Dad? I can’t believe you asked me that!”
“Oh, no! I don’t want to know! I don’t even want to think about that. Aw, man.”
“Noooooo! Oversharing! I don’t want to hear this! Please!!!”
Or when Tony confesses to Nikki about his last sexual encounter(s). OMG! Tony is definitely the team player…that’s all I can say without giving it away! But his confessions were hilarious!!!
“Well, she believed if you were going to do it to somebody, you should allow it to be done to you. And if you wanted it done to you, you should have to learn to do it to somebody else.”
Like many reviews before me....I do have to say I was unsure how I was going to feel about reading about an older couple and their possible detailed sex life. Well I was pleasantly surprised. Nikki lost her family in a horrible way. After 30 years with her husband and her children grown one trip to get ice cream changed her life forever. Five years later after four years of admiring from a far she had a possibility of a second chance at a life, love, & a family.
Tony is a damaged divorcee who unfortunately has a lot of baggages, baggage of on ex-wife of 16 years. The damage she caused to Tony has made him live his life for his children and guard his heart until fate stepped in. After being divorced for sixteen years his family and friends are trying to convince him to find someone,k they all feel they have that someone for him but convincing him is no easy task. Toni doesn't really want to open himself up again to be hurt, degraded, & unloved again. He is happy just as he is until fate steps in and his life changes and he too felt he would never know what being loved and happy would fell like until he met Nikki.
Will Nikki and Tony be able to move past their pain and hurt or is it too good to be true? With GoGreen on Tony's backside everyone is in danger and the extreme of each attack becomes even more life threatening. Is Nikki ready to let her past life go and start her new on with Tony or is all this danger too much for this fragile lady to handle?
Laying a Foundation is book one of the Love Under Construction series by Deanndra Hall, after the introduction of characters book, it is a fantastic read! Like I said earlier I was not sure how I would feel about this relations of this couple but was pleasantly surprised. I am excited to read the other books of this series. Be aware this book is 500 fantastic words which causes for a long read but well worth it. If you are not a fan of long descriptive stories you might not like Laying a Foundation but I tell you if you can handle a long read it is a doozy, one great one!

When you are presented with a second chance to love and be love by the person that will cherish you for the rest of you life. You will not waste any more time and jump at the opportunity that is right in front of you.
Nikki Wilkes never imagine finding love after life robbed her of the chance to grow old with her husband and not only did she lost her partner in life, she also lost her kids. After finding herself alone she realized she was never going to be loved by anyone. Is been 5 years since Nikki was alone and for the last 4 she had been going to this gym. There were the same people there, she started talking to Kelly the girl that always used the machine next to hers. There was this gorgeous man that she lust in silence but she knew she had zero chance to talk to him. Seeing him everyday it was making her feel things she never thought she ever did.
Tony Walters was tired of everyone in his huge Italian family wanting him to find some to love. He knew his family meant well and after 16 years of lonely nights he was considering doing so. Everyday he went to his regular gym and everyday he saw her. She was not gorgeous but there was something about her that made him wanting to talk to her. Yet he was afraid of it. After his daughter is trying to fix him up with the nice lady from the flower shop, Tony decides to go and check her out to his surprise it was the same lady from the gym. Fate had played the cards right and brought Nikki and Tony together.
Tony and Nikki's love was blooming like flowers in the spring, yet danger was lurking in the shadows putting them in the path of life or death situations.
Would Tony and Nikki's once lonely souls be able to survive the danger and finally have the happy ending they have been looking for?
I love this book, I found the story was full of love, respect, and loyalty. Besides the hot sex scenes will leave you fanning your face.
Now that I had read the prequel The Groundbreaking. I thought I was ready for book one Laying A Foundation. WOW!! I read both of these books in about 2 weeks. This is a non stop edge of your seat book. First we get to know Nikki a sweet lady who has known some major tragedy. She is widow and no family to speak of. She works in the local florist shop. Keeps to herself and just seems to go through life one day at a time with no real purpose. Then we meet Tony and oh my. He is walking, talking piece of eye candy. He seems confident in what he is doing in all things, but his personal life. He runs a very successful construction business. Has a loving and caring family that would do anything for one another. When these two are brought together by "fate" and this is an accurate description. Because against all odds they do find one another no matter how much they both try to avoid it. They soon start "dating" and wow do the sparks fly. Both a little scared and scarred from incidents and people in their lives. But see they just have to "give it a try". So glad they do!!! This book will make you wanna cry (and yes I did!! Not an easy feat.) Laugh with them in their joys and wanna strangle others. These characters are so down to earth they could actually be the man next to you in the grocery line or the lady in your gym class. I love it when an author can really make characters come alive.
I can not wait to start Tearing Down Walls book 2 in the Love Under Construction Series by Deanndra Hall
After reading this, I really had to take time to process before I wrote a review. I was immediately drawn in from the first few pages. When you begin Laying a Foundation, you are in Nikki's mind and thoughts. You learn of her heartache, struggle, and her fondness of "The Italian"
This story is about more than sex, I wouldn't even categorize it as erotic. For me, this is a story about two souls who've endured more than their fair share of heartache finding love and happiness. They are older (50's) but it's done in a realistic way that makes you feel like your their with the characters and personalities.
I had finished this book last night but struggled with writing a review not because it's a bad a story but because it's such a great story that words are hard to describe it. Deanndra is a classy author who gives a lot of detail. This is more than sex, its commitment. The story is a whirlwind as fate brings these two together.
Nikki has blamed herself for what has happened to her family, left a widow she has adapted to being alone. She spends her days working at a local florist shop. When she sees Tony for the first time in the shop, he brings her a sandwich.
Tony and Nikki are both as stubborn headed as it gets and sometimes it was hilarious to watch how they clashed. The development of their relationship flows smoothly through. I was happy to get a taste of Vic but would love to see more from him.
I recommend you give this book a shot and start with the prequel, The Groundbreaking which is ALWAYS FREE!
Favorite Quotes: “Nikki felt him get hold of the top of her panties and pull them down until they were gone, snatched off to that far-away place where panties go when hot guys make them disappear.”
“Aw, hell no. My lesbian sister’s wife is having my baby, my new four- year-old is Black, and my wife is expecting an eight-year-old. Plus I just found out one of my uncles is just my half-uncle, I have a new half-uncle, and I had a cousin who was shot and killed by my mother. Unless some dead relative comes back to life or I’m a zombie and nobody’s told me, those damn soap operas got nothin’ on me.”
My Review: Oh I loved meeting and getting to know these people. Being a… umm… middle aged… umm, mature woman... I have grown tired of reading romances about young women in their 20s, starting their careers, discovering love, clubbing, eck. I was instantly enthralled by this series about a woman in her 50s who is forced to start over after losing her family in an accident. I fell in love each character and couldn’t decide who I liked best. They are smart, sexy, successful, honest, adventuresome, and complicated. Ms. Hall’s writing is emotive, insightful, steamy, and easy to read. I hated coming to the end but knew I had my kindle stocked with all but the last book, which is currently being written.
Tony loves his family more than anything else and will do anything for them yet even surrounded by them he feels all alone. While almost everyone in his family has a significant other, whether it be in the form of a lover, a wife or a partner he is all alone. Love has not been kind to him and after what he went through with his ex it is not something he is willing to try again. Nikki had it all. A husband, kids and pets that made her life complete and filled her with a love she never got from her own parents. One tragic accident tore that all away from her and left her floating in a sea of hurt and despair. Disowned by her parents and just wanting to get on with what is left of her life she starts a job and working out on a regular basis. These two characters are both timid when it comes to love. Yet something pulls them together and what happens is amazing! While they are both trying to get this relationship off the ground it seems like someone is out to get Tony no matter what the cost. The trials his couple and family go through are nothing short of brutal. Will the two timid lovers be able to brave the storm? Will those who are after Tony succeed in taking him down? Will the secrets that are revealed in this book bring the family closer or tear them apart? Great start to a great series!
"Laying A Foundation" is the first book of a popular series by Deanndra Hall (Love Under Construction) and sets the stage very nicely for a set of books to follow. The introduction to Tony Walters and Nikki Wilkes was my favorite part of the book--I really like a compelling narrative back story and Ms. Hall delivers that in a way that made me care about what happened to them and to the rest of the vast cast of characters she introduces. The book contains a copious amount of very explicit sex once Tony and Nikki figure out how perfect they are for each other so make sure that is your preference before diving into this novel. Tony's family is introduced here, and I believe is expounded upon in subsequent books in the series. Nikki's tragic background is made clear and sets the stage for the way she handles her budding relationship with Tony, who comes across as a bit of a Mister Perfect at first. I appreciate Ms. Hall's ability to make sex between people who are not the "usual" 20 or 30 somethings very hot. There are a lot of characters to keep up with, and sometimes the plot twists relative to the enviro-crazies who are terrorizing Tony's construction company (who have a more personal agenda) get more complex than they need to be. But it's a really great romance, with a big juicy HEA that will appeal to anyone seeking a satisfying emotional/financial rescue storyline.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
Love is just a fairy tale -- there are no happily ever afters. At least that has been the case for Nikki Wilkes and Tony Walters.
Nikki is just going through the motions, life has no meaning to her since the death of her husband and kids.
Tony is immersed in work, it is what keeps him going - that and his kids. Two great kids, awesome daughters-in law, and one bat-sh#t crazy ex-wife.
While Nikki has accepted her lot in life, Tony wants more. Except that he doesn't want to get hurt, been there, done that.
A chance meeting between his daughter and Nikki, a bug in the ear of a half-listening Tony and Administrative Professional's Day is all it takes to break Nikki and Tony out of the rut their lives have become.
Lots of romance, sex and danger and all the plot twists associated therein.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
PS -- I just hope I can have half the sex life that Tony and Nikki have at their age!
I loved this story! If you love a book with down to earth people who have a past that really can happen in real life and not just something made up to sound good, an older couple who have fears and bad days. This book also has crime, passion, murder and plenty of very HOT SEX! If you love all the above then you will love this book!
Tony has an x-wife who thinks of him still as her husband and won't leave him or his kids alone. Nikki has lost her husband and children in a bad car accident and is afraid to love again and thinks she will never have what she has always wanted....a family that she can call hers. Then she meets Tony and he pursues her like a gentleman would and he isn't just after a quick piece of sex but really wants to get to know her. Nikki thinks Tony could probably do better because he owns a major construction company, why would he want anything to do with her. Fate has plans for these two and I fell in love with them easily. I cried, laughed and did both at the same time.
I can't wait to read the rest of this series. Deanndra Hall is on my list of top authors I love to read and hope she keeps writing these wonderful books with such down to earth characters.
I received a free book to read and review for Wicked Reads. Well written but a really long book. The book has really great characters that are developed really good. The cast of the book though is a really large Italian family with a lot of family drama. I read the prequel before this and I don't think it's really necessary to read it but it made a few things stand out so that was kind of unique. At first I was wondering what kind of genre this was it seemed like a contemporary romance with a slight squeeze of erotica and then I got to the chapter with fisting...lol. The title of this book was aptly named and the cover was okay. It was the synopsis that really caught my eye. The story premise was very good, but drawn out. Which is weird because I found the conclusion to be abrupt considering how long the author took to really tell the story. I still managed to laugh in a lot of places and Tonys relationship with Nikki was truly romantic. I can't wait to read the next book. Overall entertainment value is four stars.
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
What a fabulous book. I have just ignored my family for a whole Sunday (well I did cook lunch) so that I could keep reading. I have laughed, I have been quite tearful, and felt pretty hot under the collar too. This is a gem of a story, with so much going on, and so many possibilities for future stories - brilliant fun.
It starts off as a lovely romance between two people who have been dealt some hard knocks. It then gets really very exciting and mysterious, yet keeps the family and romance elements front and centre too.
Carve out some you time and get reading - just one piece of advice, read The Groundbreaking first, as it gives you the back stories to many of the characters which is very useful.
This was a great book! I loved every word. This is one of the best books I've ever read because it has a little bit of everything, drama, comedy, mystery, romance and all the kinky sex you can think of!
This story is about Nikki who has lost her husband and children during a horrible accident who falls in love with Tony who has lived through a horrible marriage to a crazy women bent on making his life hell.
Tony is the owner of Walters construction and unknown to him, he has enemies. This unknown enemy wants to destroy Tony's business and family. Throughout the story Tony and Nikki have to navigate their growing relationship and sex life while fighting against sabotaged machinery, exploding cars and an unexpected murder.
I particularly loved all the information about owning a construction company and guns (these two things are not usually subject matter that I like to read but I found both to be really fascinating).
I would recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about kinky sex, with some mystery and action.
I am absolutely blown away by this book! I have never cried reading a book like I have watching chick flicks on TV, but this changed that! If this was a movie you'd be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next! That's how good this book is! I cried like a baby at certain parts, I laughed, I was happy and smiled immensely, and lost in how erotic it was. This book, the author Deanndra Hall, does not disappoint!! You will not want to put this down. All the characters in this book feel so real! Especially since I read The Groundbreaking first and had all of their back stories.....what made each of them who they are.....wow it is like you know them. Really know them! Any book that can make you feel that emotionally connected to the characters it's definitely a 5 star read!!
I was pleasantly surprised with all of the suspense and emotion that this book has. Deanndra takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride that you will not soon forget!! Tony has has bad luck when it comes to loves as he deals with his ex that is not mentally all there and he is left to raise his children the best that he can with the help of his phenomenal family. Nikki has lost the love of her life and is battling everyday to go on living after losing her entire world. WOW, the characters of this series are all full of compassion and love for one another and their family and friends!! I love the realism in the books and the love that shines through is quite overwhelming and it makes you yearn for just a tad of the love the Walters family has and gives!! This is most definitely a must read!!

This is book one of the Love Under Construction Series but I recommend you read The Grooundbreaking before this one, it introduces everyone in this series.
Nikki barely has a life shes dealing with the tragedy of losing her husband and two children in a accident for the past five years. Tony operates a successful construction company, but that’s about it thanks to his bat shit crazy ex-wife. Now the sex between these two is scorching!!! sorry I had to add that in there lol.
Now this story is great! But like everything else there is drama, threats, and madness. Do they get there happily ever after or is there things to ruin it? Read this book to find out and trust me you wont be disappointed.
Nikki has been alone for so long, she forgets what it's like to be loved. Until she meets Tony. The fireworks are immediate and they both share a secret. Nikki lost her family years ago and Tony was never truly loved by his estranged wife, who just won't go away. They have a whirl wind romance, plagued by strange happenings at the construction company that Tony owns. It's only when they put 2 and 2 together do they realize what is going on and act on it.
Good read, lengthy but good. There were some editing errors and it could be because of the copy I received. While I did like it, I think some of the stuff could have been left out, it didn't add to the story and was redundant. But it was thorough, so that's a plus!
I was a little weirded out that Nikki and Tony are old enough to be my parents. But you know what I hope I'm that feisty at 50 as Nikki is! You go!!
I was a little hesitant to read something in the 50+ age range for the characters in a book but I found that I really enjoyed reading about nikki and tony. I loved their story. I didn't really read the prequel at the beginning. you can it'll tell you more about the characters and their stories. I personally prefer to find out about the characters in their stories rather then before I read their story (that's what keeps me interested). I didn't really want to put the book down when I started reading it but I have a job that calls my name & a family to take care of so finding time to sit and read at the end of the day was not always an option. I am loving the series though and for the price You can't go wrong!
This was a really great story. It might have been about an older couple(50's), but you never really think too much about that at all. I know you are now saying 'yuck I'm not reading about people that age' but you really need to give this book a chance. This was the first book that I read with a over 40 aged couple and I really enjoyed it. There is so much love, suspense and action. My fav quotes: 'I love you and I'll love you forever and a day. Until the last star fades.' 'I'll love you forever, until the sun falls out of the sky.' You really need to buy this book and read you! You can't go wrong with this one!
Wow! This book is a must read! This is a love story packed with murder, suspense, and family drama. I loved all of the characters and couldn't name just one for a favorite!Deanndra has a passion for bringing characters to life. Laying a Foundation is well written, Deanndra kept the suspense going until the end of the book plus there is a couple that is in there fifties that are still hot and steamy in the bedroom.. ***I will be adding more of Deanndra Hall to my book shelf and recommend you get hooked on the Love Under Constructions series by snagging the prequel, The Groundbreaking for FREE!
So, I had the prequel of this story for a while, and just couldn't get into it. Maybe because it was written after the others, maybe not. I have to say, I grabbed this, read the prequel (now included in this book) and blew through the whole thing. I absolutely loved this story and am so glad that I gave it a chance. I will be looking for the others once I get a few more books dwindled out of my TBR. The characters are slightly older, but more my age and some of it felt as though it could be real (well, as real as my thinking I may run into the rich man of my dreams at my work or the gym ;) ) I would suggest this book to any of my friends. Loved it!!
At first, it was a love/hate relationship that was developing between me and this book. There are some chapters that I cringed through, and at one point I thought “oh hell no, if this book goes there I’m done, not reading anymore”. Thank God...
