लिली-दुल्हन बनी एक सजे हुए कमरे में फूलों की सेज पर बैठी थी। सामने की खिड़की खुली थी। नीले आकाश पर तारे आंख-मिचौनी खेल रहे थे, परंतु उनके संकेतों को चंद्रमा की सुंदर चांदनी ने फीका कर दिया था। वह उठी और खिड़की के पास जा खड़ी हुई और बाहर की ओर देखने लगी। रात्रि के अंधकार में समुद्र के जल पर बिखरी चांदनी उसे बहुत ही भली लग रही थी। अचानक किसी के पांवों की आहट सुनाई दी। किसी ने धीरे-से कमरे में प्रवेश किया और दरवाजे में चिटकनी लगा दी। लिली संभली, शरमाई और मुंह दूसरी ओर फेरकर बाहर बिखरी हुई चांदनी को देखने लगी। आगन्तुक धीरे-धीरे पैर बढ़ाता लिली के समीप पहुंच गया। लिली ने लज्जा से सिर झुका लिया।

Gulshan Nanda (1929 - November 16, 1985) was a popular Indian novelist and screenwriter. Many of his novels were adapted into Hindi films in the 1960s and 1970s, including more than a dozen big hits of the period - Kaajal (1965), Kati Patang (1970), Khilona (1970), Sharmeelee (1971) and Daag (1973). His stories encompassed a range of themes, from social issues and romance to action thrillers. He was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Story six times, for Kaajal (1965), Neel Kamal (1968), Khilona (1970), Kati Patang (1970), Naya Zamana (1971) and Mehbooba (1976).

jab maine ye kitaab padhi thi to bahut dino tak Rajan aur Sheetal mere dimaag me naachte rahe the aur maine khud kai baar Kalpana me khud ko Rajan banaya tha lekin ant dukhad tha, jo koi bhi premi nahi dekhna chahta.
