From the dazzling author of Little White Lies and When in Rome . . . comes a rollicking new novel of love and lust in the boardroom.

Jennifer Bell used to travel the planet with her boyfriend, fighting the good fight for mother Earth. But after the breakup (not a good fight), Jen moved back to London to work for another her own. Harriet Bell founded Green Futures, a consulting firm, after splitting up with Jen’s big-shot father, who runs a rival (and Harriet thinks corrupt) company. But Harriet can’t expose his crimes without proof. And she wants Jen to find some.

Since Jen hasn’t seen her dad in more than fifteen years, it’s a snap to infiltrate his company . . . under an assumed name, of course. Soon she’s worming her way into the good graces of the company’s managers to find evidence of wrongdoing. What she discovers is that her father’s world is a whole lot different from her own–filled with Palm Pilots, MBAs, martini lunches, designer suits, and Daniel Peterson, a guy who puts the gorge in gorgeous. Suddenly Jen is torn between Birkenstocks and Jimmy Choos, tree-hugging and air-kissing. Could it be that her Big Bad Dad isn’t the monster her mom made him out to be? Or is Jen simply being seduced by the power of hard deals, hot nights, and wads of cash? Only time will tell–preferably from a Cartier watch on the wrist of Daniel Peterson. . . .

i got this to have a quick, relaxing, cute read. then i started reading it, and it bored me. and i didnt like the characters. my brain turned off when i tried to read it. so i kept reading other books instead. chic lit is supposed to be fluff, and i wouldnt have minded if it turned out to be a serious, yet good, book, but it turned out to be a..i dunno. anyway, i came back to the book and decided to finish it. near the end of the middle, it started to pick up a bit. i never really liked the main girl, or her parents, especially the mom, but it did get some intrigue in there. it turned out ok, but just ok. i wouldnt say anyone should go out and try to read it on purpose. just the writing style, or the characters, or something..it wasnt engaging.

I bought this book on Amazon on an I-need-something-to-help-me-make-it-to-$25-for-free-shipping whim. It was recommended to me because I like Sophie Kinsella (which makes sense because Gemma Townley is her sister), and it was only $5 or $6. It, then, sat on my bookshelf for over a year. When I finally picked it up, I was very pleasantly surprised. It was a very fun read with that wonderful British wit I love so much. I laughed out loud numerous times and vowed to read everything else she's written (unfortunately, some of her stuff is hard to find in the US). If you like Sophie Kinsella, give her sister a go as well.

Didn't enjoy this book one bit - main character was predictable, and made such life altering changes so quickly that it was hard to believe. Plot was weak, and the author seemed to have a hard time even remembering that there WAS one.

Not something I'd ever read again!

After devouring Sophie Kinsella's entire backlist, I'm on a quest to read all of Gemma Townley's books. I was taken aback that this was written in 3rd POV after reading When in Rome... It took some time to get into because I was so sleep-deprived, but then I really enjoyed the book. Sometimes the plot meandered a bit, but everything was tied nearly at the end.

I could have finished this book yesterday, but my dad finally wanted to watch Dead Ringers with me and then declared it was too slow.

The whole thing I found odd was that Daniel, the boyfriend, would kiss a female friend/colleague of his, and after Jen mistakenly thought they were together, she never mentioned how weird it was that they'd kiss each other. I don't care if my best guy friend discovered the cure to cancer, I still wouldn't kiss him on the lips!! That's a romantic thing.

I also think the subtitle should have been axed because as I expected, this book hardly had any sex scenes, and what was there was mostly alluded to. I know it was marketing for women, but still...

Not a bad piece of chick lit. But I felt I could not connect or love Jen in a way, a reader often feels a sense of love, or kindness for a character. I bought a few more books by her, which I hope will be better.

My problem with Learning Curves (or Misi Rahasia, its title in Indonesian language) was unlikeable main character.

Jenifer (Jen) Bell was your idealist - former tree huger- friend. So idealist that when she investigated her estranged dad's company, she saw everything in black and white. Every corporation is evil and money is the source of evil might as well be her motto. And it got me so frustrated. Jen was alright in the beginning, compared to her woo-woo mum. And when Jen took the wrong turn in her personality, her mum was a bit understandable.

Jen fell into every stupid misconception in her head and I wanna scream and shake her to at least learn something before she drew any conclusion.

I'm liking the 'twist', if it could be called that. And the writing was decent. Then again, it's not me, it's you, Jen.

Found this in a bookshelf in a train station and it was an ok read.
But. This book is titled "a novel about sex, suits and business affairs", so naturally I was expecting sex scenes. And lots of it. [...] There were two. And they weren't even precise, it was just vaguely hinted that they had sex and that was it. Disappoint.
Also I was profoundly confused [WARNING, HERE COMES A SPOILER!] by the fact that the main character just completely brushes over the fact that her boyfriend kissed another girl? Like she completely accepts the fact that the excuse was that he was grateful for a tipp the other girl gave him and so he kissed her. And it isn't brought up again. And that wedding at the end?? What was that? That was just so totally out of the blue.

To put it midley, this was a rapid beach reading - nothing notable to remember afterwards. No real character development, some very hard to empathise with characters (like the mother), some hard to believe situations (the father and mother triangle live affair with his highschool colleague) and moreover I felt I was reading all too much the lamentations of Jennifer along the entire book. Definetly not my style - I would have abandoned the book but I was reading it in a foreign language so I was more eager to expand my vocalubary than the actual novel.

Good book. At one point I didn't know who to believe the mother or the father. Man if my mom was like Harriet I'd probably lose my mind. I like Daniel, I love stories when a girl tames a player. Well Anita calls him a player once, he doesn't really seem like one. I would have totally killed Gavin for saying that he was back with Jen!

Interesting and not totally formulaic as some romances. Dragged in a few places and I found myself skimming a few pages at a time. I won't give spoilers, but I wasn't really happy with how two of the characters ended, as it felt forced and really, sort of 'unfair' to one of the characters, as well as totally unrealistic even for light romantic fiction.

DNF. I just couldn’t make myself be interested in any of the characters. And the random switching of character perspectives was both acting and hard to follow.

Gemma Townley writes similar books each time, although there are different settings and different names. This book is a quick, easy read.

Jen has decided that she needs to make some changes in her life, but isn't entirely sure what she should be doing or how to go about making any changes. She's comfortable where she is, having dumped a boyfriend and having a "normal" life, but doesn't quite know how to say no. So when her mother comes to her and asks her to do her MBA at Bell Consulting, Jen's father's company, she doesn't refuse because maybe this is what she needs to do to change her life up a bit. Plus her mother wants her to look into some possible corruption. Under the guise of being in the MBA program, Jen starts to try to find out what her father has been up to.

But that is where things get complicated. She starts to get into her studies because of a handsome lecturer, Daniel. She is found out by her father, she starts arguing with her mother, and her ex-boyfriend slips back into her life randomly. Fortunately for Jen, she has her best friend Angel and her personal tutor, she learns more about herself and business. Things only continue to get complicated for Jen until she finally learns information to sort everything out.

Jujur baca buku ini sering mengerutkan jidat, gaa ngerti sama yg di ceritakan, ttg bisnis, suap dll
Dan slow start....
Membutuhkan pengertian ttg bisnis, yg gue sama sekali Ĝªα̇̇̇̊>:/ ngerti,

So gue certain dr sudut padang gue saja ya

Dlam acara kuliahnya, bermula dgn konsultasi ttg pelajaran bisnis dsb, merka smkin dekat.

Gue baca loncat2, kalo udah ngomng ttg bisnis otak gue rasanya jadi tumpul hiks

Tapi kalo udah ngomng ttg bisnis gue angkat tangan wkwkwk

Happy reading

Jennifer is working for her mother's eco-friendly consulting firm. Her mother convinces her to enroll in the MBA program at Bell Consulting, her (estranged) father's company, to spy on him. In the process, Jen reunites with him, uncovers a mystery, finds a wonderful new boyfriend (David), gets over her old, happy boyfriend (Gavin), helps a schoolmate, Alan, to gain confidence with women and saves her mother from signing-over her company to the enemy! In the end, her parents even re-marry!

At first, I was worried that this would fall into the formulaic type of book involving the 30-ish single woman. But, the story actually was quite fun to follow, and believable to boot. I especially like how normal her relationship with David turns out to be. One criticism would be that Jen shouldn't have been such a stellar student - business school isn't that simple and if she had no background in any kind of business, how was she admitted in the first place? Plus, who puts the school in the same building with the CEO??

I grabbed this book from my work small library. I was in the mood for a cute romantic story and the cover grabbed my attention. I find myself reading a lot of books because of the way the cover looks. ☺️

Jen is coming from a broken family and she is somehow a rebel. I guess that what she is trying to do is find out who she really is and she is trying to find the truth about her parents. After she meets Daniel she realizes that love is not exactly how she thought it is. Her heart is broken multiple times by the people around her but by the end things might not be as dramatic as they seem.

The only thing that I found a bit boring was the fact that there was too much of business talk, but other than that this book is a great, easy read. It deserves 5 stars! ☺️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jadi, perusahaan ayah Jen menyelenggarakan kuliah MBA.

I picked this up because it was a romance novel about the business world--two of my favorite things--and quit reading partway through because I thought it was being too obvious about all the deceptions/misunderstandings. I picked it up again a few days ago and discovered that it was being obvious because there was another layer of deception under all the obvious stuff, and that once I got into it I really liked the British humo(u)r and the way the characters used business strategies to try to fix their love lives. The plot was still a little fluffy in spots, but a fun read in the end.

British fluff. Good to read one like this every now and again for entertainment and to not have to think. A former eco-hippie-protester turns into a corporate MBA student in order to find out what her estranged corporate father is up to. She finds love in the process (of course) and her life gets turned upside down. Relatively predictable plot, but entertaining nonetheless.

I was on vacation and this book was on the activities shelf to borrow and since I didn't bring a book with me, I decided to give it a try. It was an easy "beach read" book. Boy meets girl, throw in a little business and some complications and you have a story with a little twist. The title says a Novel of Sex, Suits, and Business Affairs, but the "sex" was very tame as far as descriptions go.

Not a book I'm TOO crazy about but bearable nonetheless. I liked it cause it had the usual quirkiness and fun moments to it like any other chick-lit but it failed to grasp me like alot of the others do.
