Then, from out of nowhere, he crashes into me while I’m on a quite literally crashes into my clumsy ass. Then again, maybe I crashed into him. I’m not sure how it went down, only that he’s a colossal jerk. I wish he wasn’t quite so gorgeous because…back to the part about him being a jerk. I’m being polite since “jerk” is too nice a word. I’m happy to see the back of him, partly because he has such a nice back, but also because he sucks big time!
Only, the gorgeous jerkface keeps turning up. I can’t seem to get rid of him. Do I even want to? Yes. No. Argh! It’s annoying. Then I find out that I’m not such a regular girl after all. Not even close. Just like that, everything changes. And I mean everything.

I read pretty much every release by Charlene, and the new Air dragon series was good but this one.. such a disappointment. The plotting was all over the place, the characters didn’t make much sense in how they acted, the villains were such caricatures.
It was all a mess in my opinion and I skimmed most of the book. I’m waiting for the next Dragon book and hope it hits the mark. I think this series started badly but I may read book 2 and see how it goes.

A new take on shifter romances!!

I really love the premise behind this one!! It’s not super often that a shifter romance surprises me in any way? This one does that in a way that feels somewhat more real - but also without anything crazy or fantastical! (Besides you know the obvious of the whole shifter-werewolf thing? Lol)

I love This authors books, all of them, including this one. Yes, there is usually some fairly graphic sex but the stories are well crafted and well written, the characters engaging, the worlds ones I can fall into, and the editing has been done. This book had the usual HEA though I thought at one point they wouldn’t get there. I always finish with a smile on my face.

It was good, but I mean it wasn’t a 5 star shifter read.
There was a lot of potential, but then there was just this random stuff. Like who tf cares about Hilary and what’s going on at the old people home? That’s irrelevant to the story line and the author should’ve focused more on the mcs relationship than that unneeded drama.
I also do not like when in order to make things “right” authors decide to just say “oh my memory has been wrong for the last 20 years” or “I’m suddenly remembering this that I had forgotten for 20 years”.
Last but not least, the ending was rushed. Tbh the best part of the book was them splitting up and the consequences of that and the author just cut that short and jumped to forgiveness (he did not deserve to be forgiven lol) in less than a chapter? Nah, that other junk should’ve been cut down and the break up drama should’ve been the last 50% of the book.
Either way, I’m still gonna read the next book in the series if it’s out lmao

Another excellent read by Charlene Hartnady
Jaxon was such a young pup when his mother was murdered in front of him that he doesn’t remember much. But it’s enough to fill his nightmares. His father has spent over 20 years exacting revenge on the Moones for their treachery. Murdering not only his mate, and Jaxon’s mother, but the pack alpha as well. Jaxon’s father is alpha now, and it appears that the whole pack’s existence is all about revenge. Jaxon himself has been dispatched to track down the last remaining Moone. A woman named Everleigh. He must either administer a drug that will prevent her from ever shifting into her wolf, or if he’s too late, he must murder her. The fly in the ointment? She may be his mate!
Ms. hartnady was one of the first authors I came across when I started reading paranormal romance books. So I have a soft spot for her stories. I loved this book. It took me forever to get through it, not because it was boring, I just had work obligations crop up and just didn’t have as much time. It did kind of impact my ability to bond with these characters, but that was quickly resolved once I was able to finally get more time to read.
This is a new twist on wolf shifter lore, with the introduction of a double alpha. the character building of the two main characters was slow, but steady. The interesting twist is that “Evie” doesn’t even know she’s a wolf shifter. Her parents never told her. I found the conversations Jaxon had with her, teaching her about being a shifter, was very interesting, and I wanted more. There was a scene near the end between Evie and Warden, Jaxon’s father that I found pretty touching and I found I had to dab at my eyes a lil bit.
I’m all in with this series at this point, and highly recommend it.

This is not the author’s usual read, even the narrative and writing style are different.
Thus said, it was enthralling story filed with angst and steam.
Jaxon has been raised in hatred for his mother’s murderer. Everything related to these assassins is subjected to his loathing. So when his pack learns there is one last living member, a reminder of those killer, he is tasked to destroy it.
He is no monster, but growing up in an environment filled by hate, angst, fear is not the most sane. Still he agrees to destroy the Wolf inside his pray, in order to ovoid hilling it.
Everything takes a different turn when the he is in fact a she. And while he for long believes she plays a game, as he gets to know her, he realizes there is more to her than whom were her parents.
From there he is torn between his duty to his late mother and pack and his irresistible attraction to this unconventional female.
Evie is a sweet and quiet natured woman, why her changes of character at time surprised me. Sure she fights against it, still…
That she turns into a fury when she discovers abuses, has some sense but this horny version of herself was unsettling at first. So I tried to picture her as an animal in an human pelt.
After she hold on quite well with such emotional changes, yet there is an ocean of difference between her shifter side and her human’s. Quite a discordance.
She is in for even more heartbreaks and her kind and caring persona is to be buried when the truth comes to light.
A tale of sorrows, griefs and deceit.

A wonderfully different read by this wonderful author, you’ll be captivated
This is a wonderfully innovative read than you will be totally blown away by and I promise you that one you begin reading will find it totally impossible to put this down until you reach the final page.
Jaxon who had seen a sight that had moulded him into the man he had become as he had witnessed the murder of his mother, he discovers that there is still one person living that had taken part in this brutal murder and he has to seek their demise.
He then finds that he in in a situation that it is not possible to win because no matter if and who he takes out it will never bring back his mother, he also knows that she would have wanted him to find a mate and a future of his own with s mate at his side.
Evie is a sweet and very desirable woman until she see’s actions that she adheres, such as complete brutality, abuse or anything of that nature and then she becomes a one-person army, seeking retribution at any cost.
She is a complete contradiction her shifter side is a complete contradiction to her human side and at time her human side is not even aware of some of the actions her shifter has taken and this is highly disturbing to her.
I do not want to give away too much about the story and spoil the read for others but hope that you will read this great book for yourself.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Scarred, both inside and out, from a childhood trauma resulting in his mother's death, Jaxon has been raised on revenge. The Moones must be wiped from existence. Now there's only one left. He must end her before she turns on her 25th birthday, even if she seems caring and gentle. Even if she doesn't seem to know what she is or what her parents did. Even if she's the prettiest girl he's ever seen. Even if she makes him feel like no one else ever has, Evie Moone must die.
Not horrible, but not original and nothing memorable. I've read similar stories that were done better. I liked Evie's storyline with her nursing home people, even if it had nothing to do with the shifter storyline. I liked her relationship with her bestie. I liked her sweetness. Unfortunately, I didn't like the whole revenge storyline. The whole 'wipe the entire bloodline out of existence' even though Evie wasn't born when Jaxon's mother was killed was way too far for me. It was hard to embrace Jaxon for never pushing back against murdering an innocent and not being honest with Evie. It never feels like true love when major secrets stand in between, only lust.

Four howling wolves 🐺🐺🐺🐺 and Stars for Scarred Wolf by Charlene Hartnady and BE Brouillard
First of all, I love wolf shifter romances and have read lots of them. So, when I started with this book, there was a certain familiarity to the story.
🐺The “enemies to lovers” trope, 🐺the “outcast” trope, 🐺the “I don’t know that I’m a shifter” trope, even 🐺the “betrayed older brother” trope.
Don’t get me wrong, the execution was sweet, the characters likable, but I have to admit, the overall storyline was rather predictable.
I did enjoy the little twists like the wolf-antidote, the clueless charm of the she-wolf and a rather unexpected apology right at the end 💖
This book mainly focused on Eveleigh and Jaxon, and I wanted to know more about the world of the shifters and their interactions with humans and within the pack.
It was an easy, absolutely enjoyable read, and I hope that the second book in the “Exiled by the Pack” series will provide a few more insights into the world of the shifters.

A book full of discovery and betrayal. It kind of gives off 7 years series (by Danika Dark). A wolf shifter who is unaware of their heritage until the shift happens. And the man sent to kill her is the one to help her through the change and new world she has found herself in. On top of that stress she has a witch of a boss who stupidly tries to shift blame to her and is hurting those she has unconsciously chosen as part of her pack.
Then we have Jackson. Who struggles with the mission he has been sent on and his feelings for the one person he should want dead. It's a forced proximity/enemies to lovers/fated mate kind of story, with a twist you won't see coming.

A book full of discovery and betrayal. It kind of gives off 7 years series (by Danika Dark). A wolf shifter who is unaware of their heritage until the shift happens. And the man sent to kill her is the one to help her through the change and new world she has found herself in. On top of that stress she has a witch of a boss who stupidly tries to shift blame to her and is hurting those she has unconsciously chosen as part of her pack.
Then we have Jackson. Who struggles with the mission he has been sent on and his feelings for the one person he should want dead. It's a forced proximity/enemies to lovers/fated mate kind of story, with a twist you won't see coming.

I was told this book was a good example of a book written from two different first-person points of view, and I was not disappointed. It is a distinct difference between the two which is hat off to the author for a job well done.
Personally, I prefer stories with a faster pace. I thought Jaxon repeated himself too much and never got anything done.
It was original to have two clans of shape-shifters argue instead of humans vs fantasy creatures. But I agree with Jaxon, how could she not know, when she does things no one else does?
I like to explore a situation or an environment from the eyes of someone who knows what it is. Then it doesn't become overly wordy explaining and more fun to figure ut. Jaxon however was a bit too angry and dark to give me a really good picture for the first of the chapters of where he is and what he is. Everleigh was easier to follow and a more pleasant read.

I did not like Jaxon in the beginning. The reason for wanting to hurt Evie was wrong and ignorant. She probably wasn't even born yet when her parents suposedly killed his mom. Plus, she was obviously such a sweetie. Luckily he wised up and became likable. However, not warning Evie of danger was a unwise move. He should have told her she was a threat to other packs. He put her in danger. It was his fault he got shot and Evie got kidnapped. I liked that she did not easily forgive him when she found out everything. I hate it when women in romance books automatically forgive a guy when he's done her wrong.
I did not see Garrett coming.
I loved Diane. I wish she will get a book. Unfortunately, I dont see one coming up

I was looking for a simple, enjoyable werewolf shifter story that felt like a relaxing escape—and this one checked all the boxes. The journey was fun, the pacing easy to follow, and best of all, it ends on a satisfying, beautiful note without a cliffhanger. I actually found this book because I love Vanessa Moyen as a narrator—she’s always such a joy to listen to. The main female character finds herself caught in a whirlwind of secrets that were kept from her all her life, and the main male character was originally sent to kill her out of revenge. But what unfolds instead is a heartfelt enemies-to-lovers romance that completely pulled me in. One of my favorite shifter listens when I want something light but emotionally rewarding.

Loved this story of the scarred wolf❣️Jaxon’s pack is anxious due to the rise of a new power and he’s sent in at his father, the Alpha’s, behest to “deal” with this new power. But when Jaxon finally sees who his target is, he’s a bit reluctant as he realises the new power is a she not a he and as he discovers more about her…he realises she’s not the threat his Pack fears but actually innocent and caring😳
Wonderful story and did not want to put it down😍 Definitely recommend and I’m looking forward to the next one. I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️

This was a fantastic start to a new series! Definitely different from most shifter stories I’ve read where as the female is stronger than the male which was really nice for a change! I loved Jaxon and Evie and they were great characters! I loved watching their relationship evolve and see how much Jaxon realizes she’s not what he thinks. This was a very well written and enjoyable story and the plot was fantastic! I’ve read many of Charlene’s books but this is the first from BE but I’ll definitely be checking into more! I loved this book and I highly recommend! Received arc and am voluntarily leaving an honest review

What a great story!! I love when I find a little gem that I wasn’t expecting. The beginning is rough and dark and sad and then it turns mysterious and action and adventure. And by the end your holding on to the book and hoping everyone makes it out of the mess in one piece. And that epilogue!! I’m so glad I get to jump straight into book 2!
It’s still your typical wild shifter book, with a little twist. I like that little twist, and learning what a double alpha means as the story goes. Can I just say I love Evie! Like really love her! Oh and Diana- she’s is the badass bestie that I hope we keep seeing! I’m loving this!!

It wasn't bad per se but it was just too unoriginal and a bit clichéed.
It's precisely what you might expect from the cover if you had a bit of experience with the PNR genre.
One thing that I personally found a bit off-putting was all the wolf-howling during sex. And there is quite a bit of both.
The book could definitively have profited from another thorough editing pass. There are quite a few obvious and awkward sentence repetitions as well as repetitive and limited word choice.
It's not too heavy on the mates and mines and while the expected plot points are there, the order is somewhat- let's say unconventional.
Overall there just isn't anything novel or interesting here.

Great New Series
I loved this new series with joint writers.
Jaxon was present at his mother’s Murder but his memories aren’t clear which affects him into adulthood.
Evie believes she is normal but this is soon to change.
I enjoyed the characters & how they are interacting together with all the angst of their family issues.
This is the first in a series of three & I was lucky enough to obtain an ARC copy but this is my honest review. I will definitely be waiting for & reading the next two.

The storyline itself was interesting. The delivery... not so much. Some things just felt off. Rambling Rosie's....that sounds like a brothel not a nursing home. I honestly thought she was waitress then maybe cleaning staff when I realized where she worked. A nurse never came to mind with the beginning description and then I thought her being a nurse was far fetched. Also, how can an alphas' son in his twenties be called a pup and for that said "pup" to allow it.? There are a lot of these little things that just felt off throughout this story.

Parts of it seemed slow and then there would be a sudden leap of something happening. Issues that arrived in the book (like her work issue) frustrate me and is one of the reasons I have been tending more toward alien world books (practically yelling what to do at the book, like reporting people as the MANDATORY REPORTER she is, so no one else gets hurt). The epilogue letter I felt kinda made it lame. The little tease for there being a book 2 didn't really leave me wanting more, so I'm not sure I'll get that one.

The story is ok, Jaxon & Evie are wolf shifters - he lives in a pack and his father has decided that Evie must die because her family supposedly killed his mate.
The blurb on the book doesn't really match the story, we don't really get any depth of character in the book.
The most unbelievable bit was when he went to see his uncle and found the amulet and realised his story. 🤷🏼♀️

Jaxon has been led to believe that a family double alphas were responsible for the deaths of his mother and the previous alpha and. They had been exiled from the pack and their revenge was killing Jackson‘s mother and the alpha of the pack alog with an attempd but foiled coup. Jaxon's father raised him with one purpose; to avenge his mother's death. The target of his hate is the sole living child of the people who killed his mother.
As it turns out that the child is now a grown woman who has not yet come into her powers. And everything that Jackson was told about his enemy seems to contradict what he sees in his recon of her. She does not seem to be evil nor does she seem like a fraud.
Evie is in dire straits; she is living when beyond her means and she can no longer afford her fancy apartment and car. Even though all she needs to pay for them are maintenance and utilities, she still needs to find a way to make more money because her job as a nurse in a senior care facility doesn't pay much.
At the urging of her friend decides to take on a tenant, but every interaction with her potential flatmate leaves her bristling even though she cannot deny how good-looking he is. He does not come across as a nice guy but she has no choice. She reluctantly takes Jaxon on but little does she know that she is inviting her enemy into her own home. Jaxon must find a way to neutralize Evie before she turns into a full-blown double alpha but every instinct goes against his wishes. Something does not add up with what he has been told and what he sees when he is with her. Even more shocking is that she is completely unaware that she is a wolf. His decision to help her sets off a chain of events that reveal secrets that both he and his father were unaware of.

On my goodness, this was fantastic!!! I loved the connection between the hero and the heroine. It was an unusual storyline and packed the heat i enjoy in books (I do love some biting in my shifter novels). I will say there was a point where i was thinking things couldn't possibly work out, i love that angsty feeling, so well written. Very much looking forward to book two in the series.

I have read many books by Charlene Hartnady but never E Brouillard. This story is very different than many shifter stories I've read as the female shifter is stronger than the male shifter. The storyline is alright. If you are looking for something a bit different in the world of shifters you should give this one a try.

Fear of the unknown
Amazing read!! Charlene doesn't disappoint when she wrote this story. Everleigh is a woman finding out who she really is. Jaxson has come to to find that the wolf he's been searching for is a woman. She isn't what he's been told and he doesn't have the heart to finish his mission. I enjoyed this story a lot and I highly recommend you read it!!

Excellent Read
This book was really good, a bit different than Charlene’s regular series, but I loved it. I enjoyed the twist in the story and the characters connection. I like that it involved romance and mystery. I can’t wait to read the next book.
