Abused as a young girl, 32-year-old Katie Mackenna has become a skilled child therapist. With a steady income and a good reputation at work, things seem to be looking up for Katie until one afternoon, Jay, her estranged brother and former abuser, appears at a family gathering. Things continue to go awry for Katie as locals go missing, bodies show up, and Jay is nowhere to be found.
I had the privilege of reading this right when it came out, and I have to say that it captures everything one would want from a suspense novel! Rachel Marie does a great job with character development and writing at a fast pace that allows readers to plow through the novel while their mind is racing to find out who the bad guy actually is. I see her as being a high potential up-and-coming, suspense, novelist, and if you were looking for something off the beaten path, then shutter by Rachel Marie is definitely worth the read!
I like the fact that the characters are realistic. I could relate to Katie's struggle within her family, and the fact that she wanted to get away and then she had to go back. It was a very enjoyable read.
