Somebody once told a joke.

A man ran in place all his life. He worked a job he didn't love for people he couldn't stand. But at the end of the day, the number in his bank account went up.

That man got a second chance at life. He woke up in another world, one full of adventures and romances and monsters and gods. And floating above his head, he saw the number "1".

So what did he say?

"Gosh, I better make the number go up."

Not today. Not for this old soul. Reborn as a beast of battle meant to live a short life and die screaming, Garek refuses. He puts the madness of skills and levels behind him and sets out to found a little farmstead. He grows crops. Maybe someday he'll get a pig and have bacon.

It's a shame the world won't let him be. It's a shame that the warmongers and level-grinders hate nothing more than a soul at peace.

He put down his sword for a plowshare, but when trouble comes calling, he'll pick it up again.

!NB! Story is a narration of an online web novel available in text format (or audio using text-to-speech) for free on several web pages, e.g. RoyalRoad. Feel free to get acquainted and purchase the audiobook after you have made sure you enjoy the story. !NB!

Very strange isekai - reborn with the memories of past life. Protagonist supposedly an average Joe from contemporary modern world is reborn into a world of sword and sorcery as a Minotaur. Realizing daily bloodshed and survival isn't fit for 21st century man, he moves to the countryside and starts a farm. Misadventures continue to follow the protagonist, emphasizing - You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy.

A poor man's version of the Battle Mage Farmer series. 'One Moo'r Plow' is heavy on action. There are no idle hands in the country. When MC is not fighting the monstrous wildlife in this fantasy world, he is preoccupied husbanding the monstrous domesticated animals or farming the monstrous agriculture plants.

While protagonist's goal is explicitly stated - a slow life on the farm, his actions constantly self sabotage and contradict it. Yes, there is a dungeon outbreak nearby. No, is is not the end and be all for him or his farm. Certainly it doesn't necessitate him to be the one to stop or even get involved in a position which would expose him to more physical danger than his farm on the forefront places him at already. The character dynamics are complex, not one dimensional. Sort of caring elder while being mentored by the employee half orc lesbian. Characters have history and their reasons for their actions and inaction.

Conclusion: 1/5. Listened on Audible included in plus catalogue. Narrated by: Jonathan Keeble. The web-novel origins for 'One Moo'r Plow' are self evident. Smorgasbord of modern fantasy fauna tropes. Book 1 feels like author throwing cowpies at wall to see what sticks. Bad value for the length of the book - 1.57 $/hour ( 26.03 $ / 16 hrs 36 mins ).

Values:

A 16hr audio book. The first half was what you would expect from an LitRPG, but the last 4hrs the story make a few turns that would make a Sherlock Holmes fan proud, sort of. Overall, I enjoyed this even if it was a bit lengthy.
