The Next Door Duet #1

The Girl Next Door

Rate this book
Mia Stanbury is the quintessential girl next smart, beautiful, and determined. She’s got it all going on.

Is it any wonder that she’s been on my radar for as long as I can remember? We’re talking middle school, folks. I’ll admit that I’ve made a few boneheaded mistakes as far as she’s concerned, but what can I say? I’m a dude. Sometimes I think with the wrong head. We’ll just chalk it up to one of the hazards of having a Y chromosome and leave it at that.

But I’m older now. More mature. Sort of.

Mia has spent all of high school and college keeping me at a distance. If she didn’t melt in my arms every time I put my hands on her, I’d almost think she was immune to my charms. Turns out that’s not the case. This is our last year at Wesley before we go our separate ways. Me to the NFL, her to law school. It’s now or never. I’m done playing games and allowing her to push me away.

I was her first, and I’ll damn well be her last.

Contains strong language and sexual situations intended for mature listeners.

If you find the word ‘sl*t’ offensive, then please don’t read this review.

Yet another book with sl*tty friend for the h, who as usual forces the h to be a sl*t like her and make her wear skimpy clothes and attend a party.
As usual the h is not interested in going to the party but is manipulated by her sl*t friend to attend the party.
As usual the h lusts after the “Oh so perfect but manwhore” H, but doesn’t like him yet is melted when he comes closer.
Also while sl*t friend is sl*ting with a guy, the h is waiting sideways like a dumbsh*t.

Oh I’m done with this same old sh*t.

Audible plus read. The girl next door is a standalone story. The second book in the duet is about Mia’s best friend, rather than a continuous story.

Mia has had a crush on the boy next door, Beck for as long as she could remember, but she knows he isn’t reliable. Unlike Mia, Beck is popular, athletic and impulsive.

In high school they have a moment where their future together looks promising but when Becks dad helps him doubt himself he makes a mess of everything. Mia is left hurt and in the belief her first impression was the right one, Beck isn’t reliable.

Years later Beck gets another chance and this time he’s not letting her get away. He needs to convince her he’s more than just a fun guy. He wants a chance with her and he’s going to have to prove himself.

Can Beck go after what he wants even when the people around him doubt he’s up to having a sold relationship?

The girl next door is full of drama, spice and good chemistry.

I really enjoyed this book. It had me rooting for the couple and hooked on every word.

✅ High school/college setting
✅ Boy next door
✅ Smart girl/jock
✅ Sports romance
✅ Second chance
✅ Spicy scenes

This book was so stupid I can’t even begin to explain and don’t have the time. The heroine is one of the dumbest characters ever created. The entire story is predicated on her just deciding that the hero can’t be trusted because….I don’t even know still. We are told he is a “trouble-maker” and a “player” but we never see it. The guy is being harassed by his professor, tells the girl about it, and she basically laughs at him for thinking such a thing, then of course walk in on the professor trying to touch him.. *eyeroll* So she runs out and blames him for proving her doubts about him correct. I hate her so much and find her so incredibly vile that I am officially ending this book. There’s nothing she could do to come back from this. Can anyone even imagine if this same thing happened and the roles were reversed? Sickening. I genuinely question the judgment of people who enjoyed this.

I finished it real quick, which means that it keep entertained, but there was so much clichet and predictability that I think I pulled a muscle in my eyes from rolling them so much! I didn't like her friend, she was too pushy and her obsession was not normal or healthy, so no surprise when she got with him again! The cheating pig dad I saw from a mil away, it was so obvious from his behavior, what did surprised me was how delusional he was, not that he has any moral compass to understand how awful he acted and how disgusting he is! And the professor, don't even get me started on her and how gross she is, but she was a loose end because they didn't reported her, they should've!

I finished this book reluctantly, because I hoped it would be better. It wasn't. Both hero and heroine annoyed the crap out of me. I thought by the time they reached 21, some emotional maturity would develop- it didn't. This was my first of Sucevic's books and I honestly don't see myself reading another. Very sad about the time I wasted. Harsh but true. The second star was for the sexual encounters and that's about it.

Read other books by this author in the future: yes

Mia and Beck have known each other their whole lives. And when they were younger they were neighbours and friends. But when Beck became a popular football star in his school they were only neighbours until Beck throws an end of senior year party and hooks up with Mia. Becks wants to date Mia but his father steals Beck’s confidence and he ends it after a one night stand.
But Beck and Mia go to the same college. Mia does everything to avoid Becks but then they meet for several reason over the next three years. But the romance is in their senior college year and it has some ups and downs but a HEA.

I really like this book. This is my first book from this author, but I think I will read more books from her!

A mostly enjoyable story. I got tired of the repetitive thought patterns of the main female character.

Plot summary:
Mia and Beck have been neighbours since they were little kids. They used to play together. High school happened and things got awkward because they liked each other but couldn’t deal with that; he became a hot football jock and she a smart girl. Eventually at the end of high school, they hook up at a party but end up going their separate ways because of self doubt caused by Beck’s dad. They cross paths again in college and hook up again. Then go their separate ways again. This is all because Mia doesn’t want to get hurt. College is ending and Beck wants to go for it. He won’t let Mia get away again. He pursues her, she can’t deny her feelings for him anymore. They give it another go. There’s drama in the form of Mia’s dad cheating on her mum and subsequently leaving the family. There’s drama when one of the college professors tries to seduce Beck and Mia walks in and assumes the worst. It all gets sorted out and the epilogue has them married, graduated and happy.

This book was like a soap opera, but like kind of in a good way. The only thing is that there was way too much going on externally in Mia‘s life that had nothing to do with Beck and they were all pretty big things so none of them were really done justice (her sister’s accident, her father, her mom drinking. Also, the conflict with Dr. H and Beck was just so out of left field and like I don’t think it really added anything to the story but was like a huge conflict that lake was kind of just rushed over after it was resolved.
I loved Beck and how in love with Mia he was I just wish we got to see more of them like being happy and like fully together at the end, it was a bit of an abrupt ending.

I loved the enemies to lovers storyline between Violet and Cade. Their fun, flirty banter made the book such an enjoyable read, and the chemistry between them really pulled me in. A great college romance that’s both lighthearted and engaging.

Okay, it was free on both audible and KU. First on the narration . I didn't love the male narrator. Otherwise, I'm grateful it was free with real human narrators, too many books popping up free lately have virtual narration.

It started off promising, but it went downhill pretty quick. Mia kind of sucked. Granted Beck wasn't much better. While I get they were college students, they were super immature. The storyline would start to move in the right direction, then whoosh something stupid happened. At no point did they ever have more than a day or two before something stupid happened to pull them apart.

I'm also really made at Mia for her not believing Beck was being harassed by the teacher. She totally blows off his discomfort and blames him, practically while he's being assaulted. Then in the end, she tells her friend she's heard rumors. 🤬🤬 F you Mia.

Don't get me started on the stupid cheating father and his ridiculously written conversations. It was kind of embarrassing.

I am a fan of Jennifer Sucevic's books. I normally read her hockey romances, but this was my first football romance by her. This was a cute new adult romance that gave neighbors growing up beside each other to a one night stand that led to hurt feelings and avoidance until the MMC refused to be avoided any longer.

Tropes:
🏈 College Sports Romance (Football QB)
💙 Neighbors
🏈 One Night Stand
💙 Childhood Crush
🏈 Hidden Hurt Feelings
💙 Second Chance
🏈 Bad Boy/Good Girl (Jock × Nerd)
💙 Vrgn FMC
🏈 It's Always Been You
💙 Friends/Enemies/Lover's
🏈 Angsty

This book started out with an end to senior year of high school party at bad boy, Beck's house. Beck and Mia grew up as next-door neighbors, but after a tragic past in Mia's family, Beck's and Mia grew apart. Mia wanted to be the goods girl in the family to make up for a loss they were all dealing with. She threw herself into school and tennis and focused on getting into college to become a lawyer.

Beck's is the star quarterback and comes from a very wealthy family much like Mia's, but richer. He always got away with being the bad boy because of who his father was. He partied all the time and did some reckless things. There is a reason he was acting out like that, but Mia just sees him as a spoiled, bad boy rich kid.

Mia's best friend Alyssa, who I also thought wasn't the best influence, talked her into going to Beck's party next door. All because Alyssa was chasing a boy who never saw her and was a manwh0re. The reason I say these two didn't seem like best friends, even though the book referred to them as inseparable, is because every party Alyssa dragged Mia to, she ditched her right away to go chase after the same guy. Never once seeming to care about Mia wanting to stay home or being let alone. Straight up ditched her every time to go get some 🍆 Plus, Alyssa did some pretty daring things to get this boys attention. There are some more things throughout this book that she's a different light on their closeness.²ŵ
Ŵ
Even though Beck's was a party playboy, he always looked out for Mia when she was around. He picked and challenged her to let lose in life, but Mia always saw him as someone who made her feel stupid. She thought Beck's couldn't stand her, and tried to stay away from him.

Miss always had funny feelings whenever Beck's was around. He was the only guy she's ever been attracted to. It never really stated how Beck's felt about Mia during the high school years, but I imagined he really liked her but thought he wasn't good enough for her.

Mia gets drunk at this party, and that leads Beck's making her stay the night in his room. By morning, they both caved into their feelings and slept together. He wanted to go out with her every thigh he's never dated anyone before. Mia wanted the same but was scared her feelings would get hurt by him, but she's to it anyway.

Beck's father was a piece of work. Telling Beck's to leave Mia alone that he wasn't the right guy for her. Always telling him that his older brother Ari was the right choice for Mia. Even though Beck's was suspected to get drafted while in college.

After Beck's pretty much turns Mia down, she feels like another one of his playthings he got for the night. It really hurt her, and as time went on throughout this book, she never really let anyone get closer to them besides maybe a few dates. She stayed focused and driven throughout college.

Throughout college, Beck tried to talk to her and wanted another chance, but she always refused. Her feelings for him never went away. There were a couple of run in's throughout the years, but not many, and it was very angsty between them. So much chemistry and the tension was real, but no acting on those feelings until senior year at Wesly U. Beck's said enough was enough, and he was going after her.

At the start of senior year, Alyssa came home after a year abroad because her and the playboy broke up, and she ran. Leaving Mia alone her while junior year. But Mia, being the goods friend she is gets them an apartment together and surprise surprise, their neighbors are Beck's and his best friend, a.k.a Alyssa's ex. We don't really see Alyssa and Mia together that much throughout the book even though they live together. And Alyssa hounds Mia about her and Beck's, but keeps secrets from Mia herself.

Plus, a side note. Mia always talked down about Alyssa's ex, from the beginning. She ex very negative about him from the start. Making comments like, "It's a matter of time before he cheats on her." Or, "He'll never give Alyssa a chance. Why does she waste her time." But Alyssa did nag this dude from the end of senior year in high school to junior year in college. Their book is the second one in this series, so I'm sure they get back together.

Ok, Beck's is done playing around and chases Mia hard senior year. She is also his TA for an English class. We'll get to that in a minute. Mia constantly refuses because she doesn't want to get hurt, and Beck's sees that his dad is pushing her and his brother together. Even though they were just friends.

Mia's mother is the one who actually puts some sense into Mia about Beck's and his father, and she finally gives him a shot. A lot happens their senior year with Mia's family, and Beck's is there for her the entire time. He protects her or tries to from the hurt and gives her advice and just take care of her needs and never pushed for more. He was a great boyfriend.

Beck's actually talks to Mia about a problem he is having with the English teacher she TA's for. He tells her that the professor makes him feel uncomfortable, and it feels like she is coming on to him. Always wanting to meet with him one on one and pushes herself against him and touches him on the thigh or arm, or pushes her knockers up against him. She gives him her cell number and keeps taking him to text or call her any time, night of day. He can't shake the feeling, but Mia tells him it's nothing to worry about, she's like that with so the students and to get over it pretty much.

She pretty much brushed his feelings aside on this, and then when the professor finally does something inappropriate, Mia walks in and then blames Beck's and breaks up with him. Never even listening to him after he expressed his concerns to her. Beck's begs he to listen and can't explain why he froze up. He was being s3xually harassed and almost abused by his professor. She even ignores and blocks Beck's number.

Days later, when she is taking it over with Alyssa, realizing she messed up, Alyssa says well what are you going to do about the professor. They've all heard the rumors about her and the male students. Mia agreed to knowing about the rumors, but thought they weren't true. That made me angry with her. She knew there were rumors, but when her boyfriend came to her, who was also a student and told her what was going on and how the professor was making him feel, she told him it was nothing and to get over it. It still never made it clear whether she reported the professor or not.

This is a new adult romance, and the one night stand in the beginning was a good spicy part, but it was the only time in the book they actually slept together. Yes, later on, there was a chapter of two where he took care of her needs, that was, but never then together again. I wish there would have been. I think that needed to be in there, or more of it besides the one time at the beginning.

I thought the book was cute, but I didn't rant like Mia as a character. She referred to herself one time as a Debbie downer, but she was really a negative Nancy. She didn't really have a life and voiced her negative thoughts aloud. Or she avoided the problem all together and ran away. She never really listened to those who loved her. She always thought she was right and didn't like anyone who didn't agree with or go with her thoughts and opinions.

It was a cute read that went by fast. I would read it if you wanted a palette cleanser. I love this authors books, but this one was not a favorite. I listened to it on Audible, and I wasn't a huge fan of the narrators, but I enjoyed listening to this.

“I love you, Beck.” Her attention stays focused on me. “Even when I didn’t want to, I did.”

**WARNING: SPOILERS**

This one was lent to me by my best friend because Jennifer Sucevic doesn’t have her stuff available on Kindle Unlimited. I’m a really huge fan of LJ Shen’s work, specifically Broken Knight, and my best friend equated this book to that story. Boy was that true. For some reason, I love to torture myself with books. That’s right, this book was torture. So painful and heartbreaking, but the reward at the end made it all worth it.

Beck and Mia are dark and light. Good and bad. Beck is a total player, he drinks in high school, he smokes, and he knows how good-looking he is. Mia is the opposite. She is straight-laced and kind. She doesn’t realize how attractive she is, which just makes her more alluring to Beck. You see, Mia has been the only girl for Beck since forever. Even though he hooks up with other people, no one is a match for him like Mia is. After Mia loses her virginity to Beck in high school, he ruins it all by listening to his father and ending things with Mia before they even begin. Their relationship goes on and on like this through the years, them *almost* getting together and then something getting in their way. It’s excruciating. Like come on, can our couple just get a break PLEASE.

Now let’s talk about infidelity. This is a HUGE part of this story. I won’t go into detail about exactly how it happens, but I will tell you that our main characters do not cheat on each other (thank GOD). That’s a big deal breaker for me, as you’ve probably seen from my previous reviews. Cheating is a huge trigger for me, and I honestly wish there were trigger warnings for it without ruining the story. Unfortunately, that’s not possible, so here we are. Infidelity. There are two instances in this novel where this topic arises. It’s painful and wrong and it destroys my appreciation for characters. For instance, with Mia and Beck, had these two just communicated a little bit better, all of their issues could have been resolved. Of course, then there wouldn’t be a story, now would there? Infidelity can either make or break and story in my opinion. Luckily, in this one, it didn’t destroy the characters for me. And that ending. Oh my gosh. The way our couple makes up…it’s perfection. It really came full circle for me. These two are meant to be, and Beck knew it since high school. It just takes them a few years. Bravo, Jennifer. Another great read! Can’t wait for Colton and Alyssa’s story! 4 stars.

Really shallow characters. The girl is jut ble i don’t see her personality coming. The boy have a little better outcome but still doesn’t make a good hero. All the things that showed up are easily spotted from the beginning. I got more excited about her and his besties friends relantionship than theirs. This just not got a 2 stars because the steamy parties are good.

The Girl Next Door presents a narrative purportedly about burgeoning romance, yet ultimately stumbles in its execution, leaving the reader with a sense of disjointedness and lukewarm connection to the characters.

The story centres around Beck whose self-assured declaration, "I was her first and I'll damn well be her last," sets the stage for a tale of persistent, perhaps even possessive, affection for Mia, the girl next door. However, the years of drawn-out misunderstandings between the two, despite their proximity, strain credulity and diminish the romantic tension.

The narrative's primary flaw lies in the characters themselves. Neither Mia nor Beck elicits much empathy. His constant referencing to his ADHD as a justification for his misbehaviour and underachievement feels less like character development and more like a convenient excuse, hindering the reader's ability to truly root for him. While Mia is presented as intelligent and beautiful, her motivations for keeping him at arm's length remain somewhat unclear, making her feel distant and underdeveloped.

Furthermore, the narrative appears unfocused, diverting attention away from the central romance to explore tangential themes. The disintegration of Mia's parents' relationship following the death of her sister adds a layer of melancholy but feels somewhat disconnected from the main plot. Perhaps the most jarring element is the subplot involving a female teacher's sexual harassment of a male student, which, while offering an unexpected twist, feels awkwardly placed and contributes to the overall sense of narrative incoherence.

Ultimately, The Girl Next Door fails to deliver on its promise of a compelling romance. While the initial premise holds potential, the flawed characters, meandering plot, and questionable thematic choices leave the reader questioning the story's purpose and yearning for a more satisfying resolution.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beck and Mia
Smart, beautiful, and determined not to be one of Beck’s conquests, Mia has plans and goals. Those do not include Beck and his player attitude. What Mia doesn’t realize yet is that Beck is trying to put that past behind him. He’s more mature now, sort of…

These two characters deliver pages of sexu@l banter and a record amount of heat. I absolutely love the way Beck demonstrates his growing love for Mia. It’s in the many little things he does for her, like watching out for her at a party. She may not realize it yet, but Beck has been hers for a very long time. Beck just needs her to put him first like no one has ever done for him before. Kelsey Navarro and James Anderson Foster are wonderful as Mia and Beck. I felt like I was with Mia in her desire to be the best daughter for her distant parents, even as Beck struggles with his own place in his family as well as his need to protect Mia.

💌 Favorite Moments:

🖇 The word forever flickers through my head. I’m not ready to go there quite yet, but I’m not too far from it either. In the back of my mind, it’s always been Mia. No other girl has ever come close to making me feel what she does.

Ummmm…well I finished it (barely. but I did) ok so the premise of the book has such potential, seriously the boy next door and long time pining for each other..I get it I like it. Where this book went awry was the pacing/timeline.

I’m sorry but what was this books timeline seriously the first scene were graduating high school and having a neighborhood party (which was fun I liked this scene ((really got me in the first half huh)) but then they get together and then LITERALLY THE NEXT DAY BREAK UP. then we blink and were in sophomore year of college and you’re telling me they haven’t spoke in almost 3 years…ahhh ok? Then we almost get together again and then we break it off. Then we’re in senior year and almost get together…you guessed it we BROKE IT OFF. then we’re almost done with senior year…we randomly make it official after 3 sentences everything is fine and dandy…but guess what????? WE BREAKING UP BC THE MAIN CHARACTER CANT USE COMMON SENSE!!

Yall this book was literally just pages and pages of - eye contact, our main characters avoiding each other even tho their “so in love with the other” , kiss and makeup, fight, kiss and makeup, fight, random side quests, and did I mention avoiding the other person for 5 YEARS??!!!!

Idk I hate being so harsh on books I really try to find the positives in books but this one was a bit of a struggle to get through. I would’ve liked it more if the pacing wasn’t so weird and we actually got a relationship out of all this but we never really did (literally the last chapter they made up) The first few chapters were fun but it lost me after the first time jump

Tropes: Best Friend's Brother, Forbidden Romance, Secret Romance, Childhood Crush

Summary
Neighbors Beck and Mia have been crushing on each other since puberty, neither letting that be public knowledge until the last party of the summer after graduation. When they finally come together, Beck is excited to take her for a date, but its one that never happens.

Several years later, the two are circling each other’s lives, staying just outside of contact, when it finally happens: they talk. Beck is just as charming and amazing as he ever was, Mia realizes, and tries to gain her attention by any and all means possible. Hesitant to get hurt again, Mia resists as hard as she can but their chemistry is undeniable and inevitable.

Review
I love the journey through their relationship, from the early days to the present and Happily Ever After. Beck was hot and doting on Mia, Mia tried to protect herself from any hurt he might cause when really she was preventing herself from support. I thought their connection was real and sexy, and I did expect more from her when he tried to confide in her about his problematic professor, but in the end, they were strong and in love without question.

Great writing, intriguing subplots. But...

This is my first book written by this author, and while I must say that the premise is as clichéd as it sounds, it does not appear to be one, thanks to her writing. I think she writes flawlessly; her prose is definitely easy on the ears. There may be a few cheesy lines, but I have to remind myself that in this genre, this would be present every now and then.

The subplots intrigued me even more. I think because one of them is a sensitive issue, and I would like to know the author's take on it. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I didn't see how it ended, and it would have been better if we had seen it through to the end, because this is the type of societal issue that we must understand thoroughly, if you know what I mean. The other subplot gave us closure, IMO. The lesson is that no matter what, if everybody took part in making it happen, we would forgive and reconnect with our family.

All in all, it was a nice read. I never expected to finish it in less than a week! I am a little intrigued on Colton and Alyssa's story, so maybe I would read it soon.

⭐️⭐️½ – Had potential, but fell short in execution

The Girl Next Door by Jennifer Sucevic had all the ingredients for a solid sports romance—college setting, second chances, and emotional tension—but unfortunately, it didn’t quite deliver for me. The storyline had promise, but it ended up being a repetitive cycle of “we’re together,” “we’re not,” “maybe we could work,” “nope, forget it,” and back again. It felt like emotional whiplash at times.

What really disappointed me was the pacing and structure. So much of the plot was told to us rather than shown. Instead of experiencing the key emotional or relationship moments as they happened, the narrator would often summarize them after the fact, which made it harder to feel invested. The final chapter quickly wraps things up, then suddenly jumps 3.5 years to an epilogue at her law school graduation. I wanted to see more of how they got from point A to point B, not just be told it happened.

In the end, I didn’t love the way the story was executed. It had potential, but just didn’t land for me.

Enjoyed reading it

I enjoyed reading Beck and Mia's story. Lifelong neighbors, Mia has tried her best to avoid Beck at all costs since middle school because of the feelings he evokes in her. When her best friend Alyssa drags her to Beck's party, Mia decides to finally let loose. She finally gives in to Beck and decides to see where things can go between them when he crushes her heart. Beck has always a thing for Mia and he finally has his chance, his dad crushes his spirit and chance. Things are a constant pull between them but when something happens in Mia's life affecting her family, Beck feels like now is his chance to prove he will always be there for her. I enjoyed reading the book and liked the ending. The only thing I did not like was how Mia handled the situation with the English professor.

Dual POV. Slow Burn. Friends to Lovers.

If you’ve ever had a childhood best friend who became something more, then shattered it all in a single mistake… this one’s going to hit you right in the feels.

Told from both Beck (yum) and Mia’s POV, this story unravels their journey from childhood inseparability to heartbreak and mistrust. Beck, the popular bad boy jock. Mia, the good girl with a tragic past. One drunken night / morning changes everything... and when pressure, guilt, and fear enter the mix, so does betrayal.

This is a super slow burn, but the emotional payoff at the end made it all worth it.
If you’re looking for a contemporary romance to refresh your heart between dark romantasy or intense emotional reads, The Girl Next Door is a great palate cleanser.

Trope fans: childhood friends, estranged lovers, second chances, and alllll the yearning.

Problematic and dumb. Mia and Beck like each other but for some reason don’t have a conversation about it for several years. In the meantime, they have sex here and there. During this time, Mia does not fool around with anyone else. Beck is known as a player.

The problematic part has to do with a predatory professor of Beck’s that Mia supports. He gets assaulted by this professor, and Mia walks in and accuses him of cheating. He even told her a few chapters earlier that the professor made him uncomfortable with how touchy she was. And Mia was like oh you’re misinterpreting her. Like, grow up and stop victim blaming.

At one point, Mia’s father leaves her mother for another woman. He blames the death of their adult daughter for his affair. Mia repeatedly refers to the affair partner as a whole with an r.

Just so many problems. Not good.

Overall, it is dumb, Mia is honestly insufferable, "I cant be hurt by him again" Cue a 3 year active avoidance from Beck all becuase he didn't want a serious relationship when they we 18. We will be told many times about how hurt she is, yet she just can't seem to avoid making out with him in pools and at clubs and parties. Her character just loves misery and being a victim.

Beck, your professor is 3 seconds from giving you a BJ and you just sit there claiming you didn't want it, lol, you also didn't like how close she would sit but you never botherd to move during any of you meetings, dude has rocks for brains. Then Mia catches them and acts like Beck didn't tell her the professor made him uncomfortable before. There are many off-topic issues that take place in this book, too, but nothing significant really happens until the last 1-2 hours. Run Beck, say no to Mia, you big lug.

Life Choices ❤️🪦🏈💙

I went back and forth between liking and disliking this book so I settled somewhere in the middle.

The men in this book just royally stink. The two most important men in Mia’s life hurt her and constantly run over her feelings. I just thought they got let off too easy and it was frustrating. Beck can be excused a bit because he’s young and learning, but her dad, just no. If I’d been her I’d just written them both off and found a way to be happy without either of them. For sure her father. I found nothing redeeming about him or his choices.

I can imagine someone going through what Mia has and needing serious therapy. I hope she and Beck work it out. He seems like a good guy even if past mistakes say differently.

The book is well written with real characters. There’s an HEA, but with all the background, it’s hard to trust it.
