This second book in the "the One" series by Rochelle French had good and bad qualities. The good-it was as encompassing as the first -Forever the One- was and as compelling, because I actually shelled out for it. The bad-I was hoping that it wouldn't be as good, so I wouldn't feel a need to buy the next one-no such luck.
On the other hand, I am a trained proofreader and an experienced copy-editor and I did see some stuff, only one thing that actually gave me pause, the rest were just little bumps in the asphalt. All in all a nice book, it made me cry at the end.
Also, good renditions of domestic violence survivors, I actually work as a litigation paralegal in family law and have worked in domestic violence, and I am a domestic violence survivor.

Author Rochelle French is able to take the reader straight from their favorite reading nook and transport them straight onto Main Street of the cozy town of Meadowview. The reader can instantly connect with Lia and Jack and all of their friends and they instantly feel like they are home. The plot is quick moving, fun and has a touch of mystery/suspense that some authors don't always put into their romance stories. The author keeps the readers fingers moving while they frantically turn the pages to see what happens next in the story.

Jack and Lia are friends but one of them has always wanted more...can they make the other person see it? Does their love stand a chance? The characters are well developed and complex and they make you feel like you are going through the emotions with them. They are very down to earth and the reader can relate to them on a personal level. There is no super rich, unobtainable man or poor uneducated woman...these are real, everyday people that you could meet anywhere. The author creates the perfect town and the perfect blend of people for the reader.

The plot is quick and leaves the reader on the edge of their seat in anticipation for what may come next. The reader never loses interest and they can almost predict what may happen next but there is always a little bit of a plot twist to throw them off. This is book 2 in the series but you can read it on it's own. The author sums up things from book 1 without making the reader feel like they are re-reading it. Book 1 was also an amazing read, so there is no reason that you shouldn't add both book 1 and 2 to your TBR list. Enjoy the characters, the town and the unique, yet fun writing style that the author brings to the table.

Lia had a difficult childhood with a mentally unstable mother and an abusive and alcoholic father. Sadly, she marries her high school boyfriend who changes overnight and abuses her as well. He dies two years ago and she has been working hard to overcome her feelings of inadequacy. Lia wants to be in a positive relationship, but the touch of a man sends her panicking. She turns to her good friend, Jack, to help her move past these feelings. Lia does not know that Jack fell in love with her years ago before she married and has been waiting to ask her out. He is hurt that he has not acting when Lia proposes he help her so she can date one of his co-workers.

Jack wants Lia to fall in love with him and plans to romance her. Lia is inexperienced and cannot tell Jack's heart is in these "lessons" she begged him for. Another great Meadowview story by Rochelle. My only frustration is Jack not stepping up and talking to her sooner.

Liz and Jack's story was another hit. I was almost immediately lured in, anxious to hear their individual and joint histories and where it would got from there. The story just flows from the pages, only letting the reader go in the end.

Lia Sawyer is a domestic violence survivor, mostly thanks to the death of her spouse. Jack Gibson is her best friend's brother, and always been there to help her out when her older brother couldn't be. But what Lia doesn't realize is that Jack is harboring more than just friendship for Jack. And it isn't till she makes an outrageous request that she starts to learn that.
