Second Thoughts
This is the fourth in Mindy Klasky’s “Diamond Brides” Series. “Second Thoughts” is Jamie and Nick’s story. Since I try to keep my reviews spoiler free that is about all the detail I will give.
Mindy has created a Major League Baseball Team, The Raleigh Rockets. She does a great job of weaving them into the landscape of existing teams. She is working her way through the roster telling the story of one player at a time. Nick the subject of this book is the second baseman.
As she tells the story of the player, with all of their faults and problems, she is focused on how that player will meet and connect with their soul mate. She has a talent for storytelling and dialog that makes each of these stories seem to flow effortlessly. You get interesting problems for them to overcome and twists that add to the complexity of the characters. Most importantly you come to care about the characters.
There is a little steam in each story a little traditional romance and a basic plot that could have come from today’s headlines. Yes there is a basic formula for these and you know things will work out in the end but the fun is getting there and seeing what she has dreamed up for the couple to overcome to get to that happy ending.
These are quick reads averaging 90+ pages and this is the longest to date at slightly over 110. Well edited and about as free from errors as you can get. Each story in the series stands alone so unlike some it is not necessary to read in order to fully enjoy them. You will want to read them all though. If you are a fan of contemporary romance or just well written contemporary fiction, these stories should not disappoint. While there is an underlying baseball theme the books do not focus on the game but on the players and their lives.
Now for the disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have read a number of Ms. Klasky’s books and can be considered a fan. I am not the target demographic for her work as I am older and male but have found a number of authors like Mindy, Susan Anderson, Christie Craig and Stephanie Bond (among others) that I enjoy pretty much everything that they write.

Second thoughts, second chances, and true love’s victory
What would you do if you had the chance for a ‘do-over’ on what you considered the biggest mistake of your life? This is exactly what Nick is faced with in Second Thoughts, only there is a slight plot twist that raises the stakes of his ‘do-over’. You see, Nick and Jamie once had everything – until Nick threw in the towel. Now they are face-to-face seven years later still knowing each other, still feeling the chemistry drawing them together and wondering ‘if’ through shades of doubt, pain and mistrust.
Klasky does it again, and I have to admit – this is my favorite book so far in the Diamond Brides series. With each story the author brings us a little bit closer to players on the fictional baseball team the Raleigh Rockets. She weaves in cameos for the characters of the previous books in the series, using them to keep the reader grounded in the team. This causes me to feel like each book I read is actually a chapter in the life of the Raleigh Rockets. These are quick reads but they are good ones. Nick & Jamie were college sweethearts & engaged to be married until Nick let his baseball career & his curiosity about what else could be out there for him come between them. Now 7 yrs later they meet again when Jamie is hired to photograph the players for a team calendar. Trying to keep her guard up against him & keep her secret Jamie pushes Nick away with both hands. Nick accidentally learns Jamie's secret when he meets her daughter(his daughter). Jamie is coerced into signing up for an online dating site by her best friend to get past Nick, where she meets someone special. Using anonymous names Jamie & Nick start up a relationship online not realizing it's the other. Setting up a date Nick finds out by accident that Jamie is his date & he doesn't tell her, he lets her think the guy stood her up, until Jamie sends a message to her date & Nick's phone rings. Now Jamie is hurt that Nick lied to her & thinking he's rejected her again decides she's completely done with him. Now Nick has work even harder to make up for the past & the present if he has any chance of a future with Jamie, which he definitely wants. Can Nick make up for his mistakes? Will Jamie forgive him? Will he get to have a relationship with his daughter that he's missed out on for the last 6 yrs?

The first 80% of this story was good. It reminded me of one of my favorite movies but had the twist of little Olivia, who is such a cutie. I like Jamie and Nick's flirty TrueLove relationship. But the last 20% wrapped up a bit too quick for me. Especially the last scene. Overall I enjoyed the story and am interesting in reading more of Ms Klasky's work. 3.5 Stars

This one was a story about coming to terms with past decisions, even as people recognize that what they had originally was best. It's also the (hated by me) secret baby trope. As well as a second chances one. The ending was far too pat, but the way the leads related to each other was generally realistic up to that point.

I’m such a sucker for a second chance romances, and when you throw the sports theme on top of it I’m sold! This was another quick, fun read in the Diamond Brides series that had me turning the pages and smiling to get to the happily ever after.
When Nick breaks up with Jamie right before college graduation, neither of them ever really moved on. And when fate lands them both back in Raleigh and brings them together again, Nick is sure surprised to find out that Jamie has kept a real big secret from him for the past 7 years…the fact that he has a daughter. As these two try to navigate around the old feelings that still exist between them, Jamie also needs to figure out what to do about their daughter – if she can trust Nick to be part of Olivia’s life and not hurt her.
And when an online dating service match-up goes awry, Nick and Jamie spend a night together…only the next morning brings to light lies and half-truths that threaten to keep these two apart.
I really enjoyed Nick & Jamie’s story. They were both great characters. Jamie was awesome as a single mom. She did whatever she had to in order to raise her daughter right, which is what ultimately landed her back in Raleigh. Nick knew that he screwed up, and even though youth was part of the factor, he ultimately owned the fact that his decision was made for selfish reasons. You could tell that their love story didn’t really end with their college years, and it seemed to me that the two of them were better in a lot of ways by the seven years spent apart…except for where Olivia was concerned, but even though I may not have made the same choices that Jamie did, I can understand what led her to her decisions regarding Olivia.
I think my only complaint with this story would be that the ending seemed a bit rushed…there was conflict and then – boom – all was forgiven and we moved right to the HEA. But even so, I still really enjoyed this book and will continue on with the series. If you like quick reads with a bit of conflict, a bit of sexy, and a whole lot of sweet, then this is a series to check out.

First let me say I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of these. The heroes, by series necessity, all play baseball. But baseball is merely another character in the books. It is not dwelled on, but it is used to drive action and characters.
Each of these books has very realistic heroines (okay, an MLB team owner isn't that realistic, but she is very down to earth, 'kay?). Their careers are varied but meaningful to each of them.
Each of these books deserved another 100 pages. There were topics in each of the books that needed more meat, but in the 175-page average length, they were lean on the meat. Yes, there was enough there to make a good story, but there was a lot of room left for more, more, MORE. I would have loved to have had more.
Ms. Klasky has a way of making likeable (and sometimes lightly flawed) characters. She has a way of describing a scene that takes your right there. She shows humor and wisdom in her writing. Maybe because of the lack of meat described above, her writing style is very succinct. The books are edited well. BUT there were some issues with misspellings and wrong words. Not enough to take you out of the story, but they were there.
I read all of these through my Scribd subscription, a blessing that has allowed me to indulge myself in all sorts of books I never would have known existed.
But I rate books based on what my expectations are. These books, novella/short book length with a new-to-me author, were just perfect for sitting down on cold winter's night, snuggled up all comfy cozy. Charming, fun, and fluffy. Perfect bedtime reading.

Lucky me, I won a copy of Mindy Klasky's book, Second Thoughts, through LibraryThing. Ms. Klasky is a "new to me" author and I am so glad I got the opportunity to read this book from her Diamond Brides series. At this point there are five books in the series, with more to come. Each book focuses upon one of the players from the Raleigh Rockets, a professional baseball team. The two main characters of this story are former college sweethearts, Nick Durban, the second baseman for the Rockets and Jamie Martin, a professional photographer.
Seven years ago and the night before they graduated from college, Jamie and Nick were madly in love. However, Nick got cold feet in addition to some poor advice and abruptly broke off their engagement. Both were devastated, Jamie even more so, since she found out a couple of months later that she was pregnant with their child Olivia. As Nick was working himself up through the minor to the major leagues, Jamie was making a name for herself as a photographer in the New York City cover band community. In order to be a good mother to Olivia, and spend as much time with her as possible, Jamie decided to move back to her college hometown, for a slower and more meaningful lifestyle. The only drawback, marketing herself and her work to attract business. Her first opportunity, a Raleigh Rockets baseball calendar.
Jamie and Nick are one hot couple. Ms. Klasky does an amazing job of creating heat and sexual tension. She also weaves Olivia's existence with great care, when Nick sees her for the very first time. Jamie and Nick are still very much in love and I felt it with every word Ms. Klasky composed. Overall, this is a great story, with an engaging plot, well-defined characters and a happily ever after that left me smiling from ear to ear.

What would you do if you were once again faced with the one love that got away? That is the dilemma that Jaimie is facing when she takes an exclusive photography job with the Rockets...a job that requires her to again be in contact with her former fiance, Nick. Nick broke off their engagement seven years ago, breaking her heart more than she thought was possible. And just when she became resolved to her loss, she discovered she was pregnant. She went through it all with the support of her family, refusing to let Nick know that he had a beautiful and charming daughter. But now, she discovers she still has feelings for him, feelings that she thought were long buried, but she needs to remain professionally aloof to complete her assignment. Her friend suggests it is time to start dating again, and sets her up with an Internet love match site, where she soon meets someone she senses she could become close to. How can she deal with both of these relationships, and more importantly, how can she keep Nick from finding out about their daughter? This is the 4th book in the Diamond Brides series, and as with the others, is full of romance and angst. Warning: there are explicit sex scenes in this story. I am looking forward to reading additional stories about the men and women connected to the Rockets team. Second Thoughts is a romance featuring a couple who were college sweethearts for four years and were engaged to be married. They had the perfect relationship until the day before graduation when Nick unexpectedly breaks off the engagement. Jamie is devasted. NeitherJamie or Nick knew she was pregnant when he broke her heart. He has made no effort to contact her since the breakup so she makes the decision not to tell him about the baby.
Jamie Martin spends the next seven years moving on with her life. She has to make some tough career decisions as a single mom. She eventually moves back to Raleigh to build her photography business in an environment condusive to her daughter's schedule. When she lands a contract with the professional baseball team fate seems to have stepped in as Nick is one of the first players brought in for the photo shoot. Seeing him again brings back so much pain and reminders and are almost too much for Jamie. What will happen if he sees her with her daughter?
Klasky's writing style is smooth and easy to follow. She does a good job in developing Jamie's character but is weak in developing supporting roles.
The sexual scenes are explicit and seem not to fit the tone of the story.
It was an interesting book to read.

Once again, I'm in love with this author and this series! In Second Thoughts, I really liked both Jamie and Nick. They had been college sweethearts and broken up before both had awesome careers - the ones they had each dreamed they would have. When Jamie moves back to Raleigh, she knows she may run into Nick and that he may discover they have a 6-yr-old daughter together, Olivia. When Jamie ends up taking pictures for the Rockets, the team Nick plays second base for, instntly the sparks reignite. They both can't get each other off their minds. Then, by chance, Olivia is at the field one day while Jamie is working and one look is all it takes for Nick to know he's a dad. After all, she has his red hair. Mmmm, so much more to tell...but no, I'll let you read the rest. I can't wait for third base, as we got a glimpse of both main characters in this story.

Some spoilers... I enjoyed reading this one. I was rooting for Nick the entire time, I believe in second chances and I felt for Nick because he didn't know he had a daughter and he deserved to be apart of her life.
I liked Jamie I completely understood her skepticism in trusting Nick and not wanting to have him hurt her daughter. We all do stupid foolish things as kids that we regret so it was nice to see Jamie was willing to put her hurt away and realize this.
I was slightly disappointed with the ending. I would have liked there to be a scene where Olivia is told Nick was her daddy!! But I loved the emotion I'm the book I felt for both characters and what they went through an were going through. My eyes watered and I laughed out loud a few times. My first read by this author and I will definitely try another...

Second Thoughts is the fourth in a great series by Mindy Klasky. I enjoyed Nick and Jamie's story. Jamie Martin decides to start over in a new city, hoping to spend more time with her daughter. She knows Nick Durbin,her college sweetheart, lives in Raleigh, but thinks chances are slim their paths will cross. Sparks fly when they both contact a profession dating sight and are secretly matched as the perfect pair.
Second Thoughts is a fun story, sweet and sexy wrapped into one. I look forward to the next book in the Diamond Brides series.

I really enjoyed this 4th book of the Diamond Brides series. These books are quick reads chock full of sweetness & sexiness. This book did not disappoint - it was great!! The chemistry between Jamie & Nick was amazing & his interaction with her daughter was so sweet! Looking forward to more in this series - great books for quick HEA reads!

Nick and Jamie are great, no, HOT, in this installment of the Diamond Brides series. I enjoyed the back story of the characters, and I was very pleased with the ending. Klasky continues to seamlessly weave these characters and their lives together to form this close group of baseball players and their brides. Who wouldn't want a Nick in their lives? :)

Klasky effortlessly combines baseball and romance and has written a captivating drama that is sure to please. She has a way of strongly developing the characters Jamie and Nick, and giving them solid chemistry right from the beginning. The sexual tension between them is sure to keep readers absorbed and in a state of anticipation. If you like baseball and romance this is the book for you!

Uh okay. The entire online dating thing needed to be dropped entirely. Too lazy to be considered an entire book. We didn't even get to know the daughter, she was like an accessory. Bad all around.

This was a romance focused on second chances. Enjoyed the plotline, dialogue and characters. Liked this author's writing style. Good book.
