Summer has always secretly enjoyed hanging out with Thunderbolt, one of the mischievous Weeds who bring disaster and mayhem everywhere they go. Sure, the Weeds have acted poorly in the past, but they can't be all bad . . . right? Summer's sisters couldn't disagree with her more-especially after the boys ruin Summer's bonfire party. When the two teams of magical siblings are encouraged by Mother Nature and Bluster Tempest to settle their disagreements in a series of competitive sports, Summer and Thunderbolt are forced to stop talking. But is winning and siding with their siblings really worth ruining their friendship?
The fourth installment of this charming series is perfectly suited for newly independent readers who love the Rainbow Fairies and Candy Fairies series. Don't miss Spring's adventure, also in Winter 2015!
Summer and her sparkle sisters, Winter, Spring, and Autumn enjoy a peaceful, happy life in their Sparkledoms and in this particular story Summer’s sisters are coming to hers to have a beach party. Everything seems like it will be perfect until Thunderbolt, an annoying boy from the Weeds clan, shows up and starts making some turmoil for Summer. Instead of getting angry with him, as Sparkles usually do with Weeds, Summer and Thunderbolt begin to share with each other the ways they accomplish their special skills like pole-vaulting and high-diving off a cloud. Weeds and Sparkles aren’t friends, but Summer realizes, after her fun afternoon with Thunderbolt, that she might be missing out on a fun friendship. Her sisters and the other Weeds don’t necessarily agree. An unfortunate, unintentional experience at Summer’s party involving the Weeds begins a stretch of planned competitions between the two groups with the goal of figuring out who is the best. Throughout the various games, unkindness and sabotage are thrown around between the groups but Summer is conflicted because she wants to make her sisters happy but she also believes she is friends with Thunderbolt. Will the Sparkles and Weeds realize that their differences don’t have to keep them from being friends or will they continue to not like each other? Summer and the Sparkles learn the meaning of friendship and kindness this is fun adventure! … This book is a great one for kids to read and learn about friendship. There are many conflicts throughout the story about being kind, trustworthy, honest, and loyal and good lessons about friendship and new friends abound in this story. I liked this book and thought it would be a great addition to the library. The illustrations that show up throughout the story are cute and well done. I thought the descriptions were well-written and vivid and the story was engaging. I definitely recommend this book and hope to read more of its series in the future.
