After seeing Jim in concert, I snagged his book and got it signed! Between all the longer books I’ve been reading lately, I was looking for an easy read and this one fit the bill!
It is definitely a unique experience getting to read a book after meeting the person, hearing his voice, and seeing some of his personality! The tone and writing of this is extremely friendly, as if Jim is there telling you his story and what he’s learned over coffee.
A lot of accessible examples how to manage stress, find joys even in the little moments, with factual portions supported by doctors and research to help you in your own journey of soothe!
Overall an easy and enjoyable way to look at yourself and ask “am I stressed? Am I doing what is good for me?” One of my favorite parts was him mentioning wanting to learn French, and with learning a language being so difficult and time consuming, he settled to learning phrases rather than the whole language. I think for me I am often a “it’s all or nothing” so I appreciated this permission to just do part of something for the sake of finding joy in it!
This was an interesting book to read as I recovered from the stress of the school year. Like his music, it was very soothing and low key. It was very down to earth and not preachy or militant. Just gentle suggestions as to how to deal with stress.
