Torn

Rate this book
Willow always thought her biggest challenges were running the family coffee shop and balancing her studies. But when strange dreams of running with wolves begin to blur with reality, Willow’s world is shattered. Her body is changing, her connection to the mysterious wolves deepens, and secrets her parents have kept buried for years threaten to unravel everything.

Flynn, an artist captivated by the wolves at the edge of his garden, becomes unknowingly entangled in Willow’s hidden life. Drawn to her in ways he can't explain, he watches as her struggle with identity pulls them both into a dangerous dance between human and beast. As their bond intensifies, so too does the peril.

Willow must choose between fighting the curse that runs in her blood or embracing the wild power within her. But love, loyalty, and fate are at odds in a world where being torn between two identities could mean losing everything.

I loved it, read it from cover to cover in 1 sitting! The tension between the characters draws you in. You are so torn (sorry for the pun!) between their feelings and care so much about them both. You root for them both to overcome every obstacle and will them to get together despite the challenges they face.

Megan has beautifully crafted this story and brings along her usual easily read able style from her others stories - I’m a big fan of her work.

Was so excited for the release of something new from Megan and despite the subject matter not being something I would naturally choose (not overly a fan of supernatural stories) I loved it and was drawn along like I am in all Megan’s work. So I can’t recommend it highly enough.

First of all, can we talk about the hot chocolate? How terrible (yet crafty - my Slytherin heart approves)! I definitely wasn't expecting that, so it was a great little detail that I thought about throughout the entire book. I really appreciate Willow's conviction and love the fact that she didn't let the opinions of her dad or Flynn dissuade her. I also loved the twist towards the end and her acceptance of herself. What I wish was better was the flow of the story itself, the details, and the relationship development between Willow and Flynn. I would have liked all those things to have taken us deeper; they felt more surface-level to me. I also think I'm annoyed with Flynn despite wanting to like him throughout the whole book. He needs to learn how to communicate better!

I’m not usually into books about wolves, but Torn totally pulled me in. The whole premise is wild—Willow thinks she’s just juggling her family’s coffee shop and school, and then boom, strange dreams about running with wolves start to mess with her reality. Her world unravels as she realises there’s more to her than she ever expected, and the way her connection to these wolves deepens kept me hooked. The family secrets unraveling added layers of suspense that kept me hooked, and I loved how everything slowly came together. Even though I'm not typically into wolf tales, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

The only thing I liked was the characters

The main thing I didn’t like was how it treated the wolf as a genetic disease that needed a cure and was something to feared, disliked and even hidden away. It makes reading it as a disabled person, a sad experience, as it feels like it can be aimed at the genetic diseases that disable us and don’t have cures, and that we should be feared or hidden away due to these illnesses and disabilities. I would have rather the wolf been embraced and welcomed more.

Torn is an addictive blend of romance, mystery, and supernatural intrigue. Megan James captures Willow’s struggle between her human life and the pull of the wolf with intensity and heart, while Flynn’s perspective adds a tender, artistic layer to the story. The pacing is sharp, the tension is palpable, and the love story feels both dangerous and genuine. A gripping, emotional read for fans of werewolf and paranormal romance—once you start, you won’t want to put it down.

Torn is a fitting name for how I feel about this book. I would like to give it 3.5 stars, but I will round up to 4 stars. The book was ok. The story progresses quickly, but it often felt surface level to me. I didn’t really connect with the characters that much. The ending was extremely abrupt in my opinion.

A wonderful book, that took me away my reality. Loved how you heard it from both characters. The ending was intriguing. 😊

First book I have read in years will be ordering more from this author x
