Desperate for a fresh start after a painful breakup and a boring life, Beth Thompson jumps at the chance to swap her London flat for a remote Welsh cottage. A month of countryside tranquillity sounds perfect for healing her broken heart and rejuvenating her life.
But something feels wrong from the moment she arrives at Uwchgoed cottage. Strange noises in the night. Disturbing photographs hidden in drawers. Mysterious scratches around the cellar door. And why do the locals turn away when they see her coming?
Even more unsettling are the cryptic warnings from her elderly "This place has a way of unearthing buried secrets, dear."
As Beth delves deeper into the cottage's dark history, she discovers a pattern of disappearances and deaths spanning decades. Each mystery left unsolved.
Now the couple she swapped homes with have gone silent. Her car won't start. The phone reception is hit and miss. And someone is watching her from the woods...
From Aaron Quinn comes a pulse-pounding psychological thriller about the dangers of escaping the past - and the terrifying moment you realise you're trapped with it. Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware, Lucy Foley, and Shari Lapena.
With a boring life in London and a failed relationship, Beth is looking for something new in her life. So when she receives a leaflet telling her about the possibility to swap her house for a month and go to a remote cottage in Wales, she decides that this might just be the ideal oppertunity to make some changes and see how it is to escape the rat-race. the cottage, when she gets there, seems to be ideal. However, the promised Wi-Fi connection proves to be less than ideal (not easy when working from home) the people in the village are behaving strangely and she is suddenly unable to contact the couple with whom she has swapped. In short, something doesn't feel right. She is right that something feels bad, but she has no idea just how bad! Another amazing book from Aaron, very creepy, impossible to put down and with a couple of real surprises, this book proves once again that the writer is a true craftsman. Magic!!
Another fantastic read, as I was reading it, I actually felt as though I was living it. It's creepy! After a failed relationship Beth decides she needs to do something for herself, After seeing an add in a paper for an old cottage in Wales in the middle of nowhere on a house swap website, she decides its just what she needs, but is it?.... After moving against the advice of her friends, there are strange noises? Things being moved around? and Beth always feels like she is being watched. There's a lot of history in the remote cottage, but will Beth find out the secrets, or will she move before the month is up?? I loved this. It was creepy and gave me goosebumps. There are lots of twists and an end i didn't see coming. I highly recommend
Yet another standalone psychological thriller from this author. Short & sweet but packs a punch all the same.
Meet Beth Thompson, thirty something accountant, recently single & living in London. She’s fed up with her lot - her ex has moved on, she works late to fill her time & has a nonexistent social life. Then, a marketing email drops in her inbox, a house swap site & she searches for her ideal bolt hole for a bit of fun. To her surprise she finds exactly what she is looking for - an isolated Welsh cottage, with good WiFi so she can work remotely & it is available for a month. Perfect. What’s that phrase? Oh yes, be careful what you wish for!
Fast paced & great main characters with the environment playing its part in setting the tone. A satisfying conclusion & an enjoyable read.
Meh Nothing Addictive or Gripping Here I read this book after seeing a post of a bookstagrammer. She labeled it as fast paced which I did not find to be the case. It is 269 pages, but it doesn't move rapidly. It is a slow climb. Not a bad read, just a meh read. Nothing is really happening. It takes about 60% of the story before anything really happen. I think I will read The House Swap by Miranda Rijks and compare which one I prefer best. I would suggest reading this if I had the time and didn't have anything else to read.
