NEXUS – The Core of Erotic Desires by Lainie Suzanne Katherine Stevens is divorced, with a recently empty nest. She lives a so-called, normal life. With dates few and far between, that she blames on her plump, full figure; Katherine’s desires are met vicariously through the characters of her favorite erotic novels. She is thrust into the erotic world she’s always secretly desired, when her best friend arranges a “Girls Night Out” to attend an open house at NEXUS, a local BDSM club. Unbeknownst to her, Katherine catches the eye of the club owner, Master Isaac. He makes her an offer, she can’t refuse.
Retired from the Navy, Isaac Jameson took the reins of his family’s construction company. With extensive knowledge and training in the BDSM lifestyle, Isaac opened NEXUS; a BDSM club and training center. The betrayal of his wife and the deception of his former sub, Isaac has sworn off relationships. His play comes only from the training of subs; with no commitment. For years, he’s hampered his possessive needs and trust, but this redheaded vixen is taunting his possessive beast within.
As Isaac introduces Katherine to her most erotic desires, evil is lurking around her. Will she find strength in her new lifestyle or will it destroy her?
I really enjoyed this story. It was refreshing to have the two main characters that were more like real people for a change. Although the main male character had the perfect body as usual in these BDSM stories at least he wasn't a billionaire and the main female character was perfect in that she didn't have the perfect body but she was beautiful to the people that mattered. The ending was a bit sappy, but since I am a hopeless romantic I was very happy with the way it ended. I look forward to Lainie's next book.
What a fantastic read!! I love how Katherine is so relatable. She's 45, professional and NOT a size 8. Brilliant! The storyline flows with excitement. The sex scenes were scorching hot and the writing was top notch. I would never had known I was reading a first-time author's work. Bravo! I'd highly recommend Nexus and I look forward to future writings from Lainie Suzanne.
I received this book with a request to offer an honest review.
My summary:
This story is about Isaac and Katherine.
Isaac is a very skillful Dom. His last sub was very manipulative. He seems content with running his businesses and playing at the club, Nexus.
Katherine is divorced and has two sons in college. She is always busy working to help support their dreams, but also finds time to curl up with a good erotic book or a girls night out with her friend, Deb.
Deb has decided to spice things up with their girls night out and Katherine's life changes from a tourist for the evening to experiencing things she never imagined. Katherine's eyes are opened to the world of BDSM.
My review:
Isaac is a down to earth Dom. Although he has his preferences and likes to control things, he tries to keep it boxed up and give Katherine the room she needs as a very independent, professional woman. He makes some missteps and it was refreshing to see him recognize, admit, and correct them.
Katherine is just about as down to earth as you can get. She's strong, focused, and will tell it like it is. She's also well aware of her hang ups with her body.
Their story seems so real life. Although there is suspense and romance, they have to juggle a new relationship around working. They figure out how to make the best of their time apart. ;)
The erotic scenes are intense!
The story is standalone. I would love to see a story about Deb too.
Holy Smokes I love this book!!! It was emotional, hot, steamy, and yes even beautiful. I started this book and was not able to put it down. This author is very talented, and brilliant. I received a copy from the author, and I am so glad I got the opportunity to read this book. I've read books in the post about BDSM but this is my favorite book in that genre. This is one of my top five favorites of the year. You have Katherine who went to club Nexus for a girls night out. Little did she know that she was about to meet Master Isaac. Oh how he is very swoon-worthy. She ends up getting a job there. I do like the twist about his ex sub though. It is a believable and unpredictable story which I really liked the most.
Laine does a wonderful job writing this book. It is definitely a page turner and a fast read. It is very interesting and intriguing. If you like BDSM type of books this book is for you. You too will be swooning over Isaac and you wont be disappointed.
I rated it okay, because I read it all! I really do not recommend this book for the money. It started out very good, then fell flat. The author does not develop the characters, but there was so much potential. It flips points of view. There is a conflict, but it bounces from chapter to chapter. So sorry I spent the time and money!
I'm kinda kicking myself for waiting so long to read this book!! It was powerful, sexy and sweet. After a girls night out at a very special kind of club Katherine never could have imagined the direction her life was gonna take. Especially when looking for a second job she ends up working at said club for an Adonis, aka Isaac Jameson. And what starts as just a little training turns into a lifestyle. And that ending was so perfectly beautiful!! I had tears streaming down my cheeks
This is the first book in the Nexus series by Lainie Suzanne. I had this book in my library for almost two years and I wish I would've read it sooner. I don't know why I put off reading it for so long but I've been trying to pick older books in my library and read them before buying new ones. Katherine is 45 years old, divorced, with two sons in college. Her son, Ben is about to finish his junior year and Matt is about to finish his freshman year. Kathy is an accountant who works very hard for a public relations firm. Her best friend, Debra plans a girls night out for them at a local BDSM club. Kathy is a little reluctant about going even though it's something she's always been curious about. Isaac Jameson is the owner of Nexus, Atlanta's premier BDSM club. Isaac was in the Navy for twenty years, he retired when he was thirty eight years old. He then took over his Father's construction company, J & J Contracting which he's been running for ten years now. He's been in the lifestyle for years and and a while ago he decided to open Nexus so he could provide a safe, sane, and consensual place for people to play. He meets Kathy during his club's open house and is instantly attracted to her. Kathy gets a call from her son, Ben telling her he's been accepted into a summer internship program in Paris and will need extra money. Kathy starts looking for a part time job so she can help Ben and gets an interview at a construction company. She is shocked when she gets to the interview and sees the sexy Adonis from club Nexus. Isaac explains to her that the job is actually at Nexus and that her employment also comes with a membership to the club.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had come across this book several times and finally thought ok just get it and try it. So glad I did! I couldn't put it down. Katherine is a strong character but knows how to submit when its needed. Isaac may be the string silent type but he knows what he wants and Katherine is it. Glad to finally see an older couple that enjoys a great sexual relationship being written about. This is such an awesome read and I am looking forward to what comes next in the series.
What a great read from a first time author! Loved that Katherine was older and plus sized but had attitude enough to get herself in and out of trouble. Also enjoyed the story from Issac's point of view. Written with emotion, suspense and a touch of humour that had me hooked right from chapter one. Would definitely recommend this book to others. Can't wait to see what Lainie Suzanne has in store for the other members of Nexus!
Read sample. The constant referencing to books that the main character has read, one being 'that' trilogy, being the reason for her interest in BDSM had me shaking my head.
I think it will best if I take a pass on this one.
Very nice read. Loved that both characters were in their 40's and the heroine was plus sized and had body issues. Am interested to read more books by this author.
Very erotic and pleasing book! For a woman 45 + as well as the "full"figure that comes with the age... WORK IT KATHY!! A wonderful story along with the BDSM a great read
This book is clearly inspired by Cherise Sinclair and even mentions Xavier as a favorite book boyfriend. Not a bad place to begin at all. It's a quick read and perfect for a lazy summer day.
Overall its ok however as a 1st intro to bdsm there are way better books out there if you want to know more. There's virtually no proper action in the club, it was almost an after thought.
This book had many plot holes, listed below which spoilt the book for me. The dialogue was repetitive n corny. The charactisation was stereotypical and formulaic and the plot simplistic.
Writing style was basic, amateur feeling. Simplistic, I wonder if this is a first novel?
Hmmmm- notes taken as I read.....
Issues
First chapter- so she's a single mother with a part time job, yet she's putting both her kids through university? Then she's on about when she first read 50 shades of grey on a flight back from a girls weekend? Hmmmm
I want the part time job that she has cos shit I've never known a single mother who could afford all this!!!
She arrives at nexus and asks whats a dungeon monitor, yet she's already told us she's read a ton of erotic books and likes reading bdsm- and she's never come across that term?
Walking through she recognises shibari from her books but doesn't know about the alcohol rule clubs have in place?
This is annoying af atm cos these inconsistencies keep kicking me out the book!!!
Ok so we now find out she has a full time accountancy job!!
So she's read hundreds of erotica books and doesn't know what squirting is? Shes never read it in a single book?
I'm so over her constantly talking about her fat arse, I mean seriously who refers to themselves like that all the time?
And the only thing she utters is OH MY GOD when he thrusts inside her ffs! Every single time. Couldn't the author think up some new?
She has a panic button in her house? Who has one of those unless you're high risk?
And now we find out she has a German shepherd dog- who the fuck's been looking after it whilst she's at work all day, then at the club on a night or when she stayed overnight at Isaacs? They do need walking, feeding etc
This was the first book I have read by this author but will not be the last. I have been meaning to read this book for a while and it set on my TBR for too long. Now that I have finished it I am wondering what took me so long to read this great story. I have read plenty of BDSM books in the past and all have their own take on the lifestyle but this book stands out among them. The alpha male is sexy, hot, possessive with a failed marriage under his belt leading to closing off his feeling and emotions until her. The heroine is a strong minded, sassy woman in her 40's with a bad relationship in her past and body image issues, who's self esteem issues hinder her from possible relationships until she meets him. Once the two meet you can feel the passion and electricity drawing them together. The action and little bit of suspense keeps you hook on each page not letting you put it down, while the incredible hot and steamy sex scenes leave you breathless and wanting to read more. I would recommend this book and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
The first installment in the Nexus Series introduces us to the matriarch and patriarch of the Nexus family, Katherine, Kathy and her Adonis Isaac, the owner of Nexus. Kathy is like many of us, over 40, sassy and real sized. She isn’t that comfortable with her curves. But, Isaac sure can’t get enough of them. Debra and Kathy have been friends for decades. We all can use a best friend to trick us into going to the a very exclusive BDSM club. Of course, it turns out to be one of the best things to happen to both Kathy and Deb. I highly recommend anything and everything Lainie writes. Five stars is not nearly enough.

Not sure why this book got more than 3 stars over-all. Did some looking around and apparently the author was strategic in how they advertised and got a lot of yes-men type of readers. Really???
You only have to read Joey W. Hill, Tymber Dalton, Roni Loren, Pepper Winters--(or even Cherise Sinclair who is referenced in the book) to get a better progression of understanding of the BDSM world.
I'm not even involved in it myself but I get it comes way more from a psychological standpoint. This book was NOT its age, childish, giggly, omging over everything. The people in it felt young (at 40).
I don't know why this book has so many stars...! I bought this book because of the good reviews, but I'm so dissapointed.. I didn't like her writingstyle,it was somehow so 'off'... The H says, tjat she loved Cherise Sinclairs 'My liege of Dark Haven'and than the story is soooo similar... !! The H feels to fat, too old and not attractive, but Isaac ... finds her perfect. I know, this often written in this kind of books, but somehow it was so :-( ... I could not finish it ....
I freaking loved this book. It will bring your fantasies to life. I can relate to this book because I'm a well endowed bigger woman in my forties. I loved Master Isaac and his alpha possessive ways. To say Katherine had self esteem issues is putting it mildly but Isaac will teach her not to talk negatively about herself and make her learn to love herself. This book had me from the first page. If you haven't read this you don't know what your missing.
First, but not the last book I'll read by Lainie. Great story and boy, it was seat shifting hot. What I love most about this story is the fact Katherine was not a young hottie, but someone of my age and has had experienced life.
I love these kind of stories where the woman are introduced into BDSM from books and find what they have been missing there while life. I can't wait to read more from this series!
This was a sexy, and easy read. I loved Katherine. She was just so real. As much as I love reading about all the gorgeous people who are flawless, and sexy. You can't always relate to those stunning characters. Katherine, was gorgeous too but she wasn't your every day typical character. She had sexy curves, and was a plus size, mid 40's divorcee. She had brought up her 2 sons and worked hard. She now wanted something for herself. Her best friend made her go to a BDSM club for a night out. I say 'made' as Katherine, was not at all keen to start with. Yet it would seem that one night changed everything. Deb and Katherine get themselves all kitted out in their sexy clothes, suitable for wearing at a BDSM open night. They try to find their way around, checking all the scenes out, having a look at things they have only ever read about in books. They both love it, and attract some attention from some of the Dom's in the club. Katherine has caught the eye of one of most gorgeous and prominent Dom's in the club. Yet, she doesn't quite know who he is yet. After a fantastic night, they go back to reality. Katherine needs some more money to help her son out, whilst he does some study abroad. She applies for a part time job, doing some accounting and goes to the interview. It's at the interview that she meets the man hiring. The same man who brought out a whole new side to her, when she took a visit to Nexus. The gorgeous Dom. Who it turns out also owns the club, and needs someone to do the books/accounting for the club. It's from there that we see Katherine come out of herself, Issac brings out this new submissive and confident side to Katherine. She is being awakened. We get to see what goes on inside this world, and see it all from the funny and real eyes of Katherine. This was an exciting and sexy read. The characters were addictive and the story was captivating. I can't wait to see what the next story in the series brings. 4.5 Stars.

I think there are a few women that would identify with Katherine. (smiles) What a well thought out story, from a new to me author. I really enjoyed the concept, the story and the characters. Even the length was just about perfect, its pretty much a stand alone... just the end will lead you to believe that it will be another book. I don't think its a self-esteem issue as much a resigned in how Katherine sees herself. (I'm so there with her). A working mom, with grown sons both in college. She eventually finds the need to look for work in order to help her son with a internship. Because of her friend Katherine winds up going to a open house for a local BDSM club. Upon being in the club Katherine can list all the reasons she wouldn't get approached. Ah but Isaac will be there to show her all the reasons she should be in the club, under is care. Isaac isn't without baggage of his own, in the name of a ex-sub. He is a Dom personified and need to reign in his possessiveness. After all Katherine isn't his sub and he isn’t looking for a sub. Watch and see how he convinces himself of that... or tries to . There was just enough detail so that the characters wasn’t robotic and had some meat to them. Easy to follow along. The BDSM scenes were written well, as if by first hand knowledge or great research. Its a joy to see a new sub come into her own and a greater joy seeing a Dom put off center. Enjoy
We meet 45 year old Katherine Stevens Who is recently divorced with 2 son's and is suffering from empty nest syndrome.
She hasn't had much luck on the dating scene since her divorce which she blames due to her size as she isn't your typical perfect size 8 woman. I have to say I found this bit very refreshing to read.
Katherine would love to be living the life like the girls she reads in the erotic novels. Her best friend Deb decides to drag Katherine on a girls nite out and decides to spice it up by going to the open house of Nexus which is a BDSM club.
What Katherine doesn't realise that as soon as she walks into Nexus she has caught the eye of the owner of Nexus and dom Master Lucas.
Step forward the sexy Master Lucas. He's soon offering her a offer she can't refuse and offers her a job at the club.
Issac Jameson is a retired navy man who decided to open Nexus as a BDSM club and training centre. Issac is sworn off relationships due to the betrayal from his ex wife and ex submissive. He's happy to help train up new sub's but that's as far as he is willing to go.
But what happens when him and Katherine feel a pull towards each other and will Issac be able to resist Katherine's charm. Will it be everything that Katherine expects after what she has been reading.
4.5 stars! I've read a number of bdsm romances that start off at a club, often with the club owner; the club is Nexus. However, Katherine endeared herself to me with her insecurities and independence. Isaac was a hot Dom. There are lots of erotic scenes in this, just enough to keep my interest, not too much. There's also an annoying co-worker, her new part-time job, and her learning to stand up for herself.
This could have been just another cookie-cutter bdsm romance book, but it's not. I liked that Katherine and Isaac are in their 40s. They've had failures with marriages and romances. It added to my enjoyment, and I found myself reading it to the end without stopping to read another book, which I often do.
This story ended in such a way that I wonder if it would be book 1 in a standalone series. I would like to read more about side characters: Patrick, Dungeon Master at the club, and Debbie, Katherine's friend. There is also a mystery to be solved, which adds to the storyline. If it is a series, I hope the author notes it on the cover. I would definitely be interested in reading more from this new author.
