tim green did it again. his story got to me one again. when ryders mom is hit by a firetruck, a firefighter named doyle takes him under his wing. his mom needs 2 heart valves or she only has weeks to live. he will do anything to save her. he gets arrested and banned from stadiums. he loves baseball. this is a must read if you like sports and family.
LOST BOY was a great story with lots of heart and unexpected heroes. Ryder Strong and his mother Ruby have always been a team. They haven't had much money; his mom works as a maid in a hotel. But they have always had each other. Ryder is a good baseball player but his mom wants him to concentrate on his school work. One day, after a game, they have an argument and his mom is hit by a truck. She is in serious condition and needs to have a couple of new heart valves really soon, if she is to survive.
Here's where the first hero comes in. Doyle McDonald was one of the first firemen on the scene. He is the one who began CPR on Ruby. And, when he learned that Ryder was alone, he stuck with him to take care of him. He took him to the hospital and helped get him in to see his mom. When he found out that she needed an expensive operation, he comes up with the idea of doing a fundraiser. However, he didn't know that he couldn't just hold one. There were hoops to jump through and time was not on his side.
This brings in the second hero. Mr. Starr has lived across the hall from Ryder and his mom and has been an emergency contact. But Mr. Starr is in a wheelchair and suffers from fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva which makes him pretty much helpless physically. He is also really grouchy. He is the one who suggests that Ryder try to find his father to see if he can help.
Ryder's only clues about his father are a signed baseball and a mushy love letter that his mother had hidden away in a shoebox in her closet. When he goes to the hospital, his mother in her drugged grogginess says the name Jimmy Trent, which provides another clue. Mr. Starr was an investigative reporter before he became ill. After some tracing, they learn that Jimmy Trent is not a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves.
Ryder and Mr. Starr take off for Atlanta to try to contact him to see if he will give them the money for the surgery. However, getting to see a famous baseball player isn't easy and the pair has lots of adventures and difficulties before they can actually talk to him - and find out that he isn't much of a hero at all.
The story was very engaging. I couldn't put it down. I loved Ryder's perseverance as he tries to do whatever he can to save his mother's life. I loved the grouchy Mr. Starr. Fans of contemporary middle grade fiction who like some sports in their stories will enjoy this one very much.
Ryder and his mom live in New York. They're happy, but just get by on the money she makes cleaning toilets. Ryder is protective of her, so much so that he has developed a pattern of turning down invitations from the kids on the baseball team he's on. He gets more of these now that he's blossomed into the best player on the team. He loves baseball and his dream is to be in the major leagues. Every time he mentions it, Mom freezes. She keeps telling him he'll become a doctor or a lawyer. She also refuses to tell him anything about his father. On the way home from a game, they're arguing about his latest refusal to attend a sleepover at a museum with another boy, when he jerks away from her and she stumbles into the street where she's hit by a vehicle. Everything becomes surreal for Ryder. At first he can't believe what's happening, but when one of the firemen takes him under his wing, Ryder becomes very upset and guilt-ridden because he blames himself. When Doyle, the fireman, uses his position to get Ryder into the hospital and learn how badly his mom is hurt, things seem pretty grim. Mom's heart is badly damaged and she needs 2 valves replaced if she's going to survive. An operation will cost $200,000 and the situation is further complicated by her signing a do not resuscitate order ten years before when she was treated for something else. By this point, Doyle has fallen under the spell that Mom casts on most men. He's determined to use the power of the fire department to raise the money, but it must happen within 2 weeks or Mom will likely die. Meanwhile Ryder asks his crippled and extremely grumpy neighbor for help. Mr. Starr can barely move, but his brain is sharp as is his tongue and he used to be a crime reporter for a big newspaper. When Ryder shows him a ball and a letter his mom hid in her closet, they start searching to see if they can find Ryder's father who he believes is a pro ball player. The search involves getting arrested, banned from a couple ballparks, a train trip to Atlanta and more roadblocks that you can imagine. Despite setback after setback, Ryder and his grumpy neighbor persevere and the ending is extremely satisfying. This is a great book for sports fans, kids who wonder about an absent parent and those who love an action filled story. It also does a great job of making a severely handicapped person come to life in sympathetic ways. All in all, a dandy addition for school and public libraries.
I read the book Lost Boy by Tim Green. I rated this book 4 stars. I really liked it once it picked up but the beginning was boring and it was hard to get into. This book is about Ryder, Mr. Starr, Thomas Trent, Doyle, and Ryder's mom. Ryder's mom, Ms. Shoesmith gets in a bad accident and she needs a lot more money than Ryder and her can spend. Doyle, a firefighter on the scene of the accident takes Ryder under his wing, but then hands him off to Ryder's neighbor, Mr. Starr, in a grubby, crime filled apartment in the middle of New York City. Mr. Starr is very sick, gets around in a wheelchair, and has to be assisted with everything he does. Ryder loves baseball and dreams of going pro, while Ryder and Mrs. Shoesmith live off of her paycheck as a maid at the hotel. When Ryder's mom experiences the accident they have nowhere to get the money from, except maybe a stranger that Ryder knows nothing about and only knows plays baseball and has no clue what level he plays at, this man being his father that abandoned Ryder and his mother. Ryder and Mr. Starr set off on a journey to find his father, name being Thomas Trent found out after further "research", and pitches for the Atlanta Braves. Can an old, sickly, and disabled man and a 12 year old boy save Ms. Shoesmith's life or will they come up empty handed? I recommend this book to anyone who likes sports and books with a lot of action
Have u ever pitched a baseball Right down the middle and struck someone out. Well Roy Holladae struck a lot of people out and how he became a good pitcher. He started off by practicing pitching and started to pitch in the minors. I can relate because i pitched in my minors team and started to pitch in majors and jr seniors for my age that's good. But Tyler has a mom that got in a car crash and she needs serious surgery or she might die. So if Tyler needs to find money because he Can't lose his mom like he lost his dad to a heart attack. so he has to be manager of a pro baseball team so he can save his mom.
This book is amazing. It truly represent how important it is to love your family. Ryder is an amazing baseball player. When his mom picks him up from practice one day she falls into the road and gets hit by a car. Ryder and his mom don't have a lot of money. The surgery will cost loads of money. One of the firemen starts a fundraiser to get money. When this plan doesn't work there is only lone more thing to do Ryder must find his father. His mom and dad are divorced. Ryder has some clues that his dad could be a famous baseball player but Ryder doesn't know his name. Will Ryder find his dad? This book will be enjoyable for anyone.
Doyle is helping Ryder save his mom before she dies. They need to raise about two-thousand dollars for a heart valve transplant. She told Ryder a name that could be his father now its a race against time to save his mom. The firehouse chief wouldn't let them raise money from the New York Fire Station twitter page. After awhile they let him use the twitter page to raise money for his mom.
Lost boy is a sports book by Tim Green. This book is from the perspective of Rider, a twelve year old boy. Rider and his mom live alone in the city. On their way home from Rider’s baseball game his mom is hit by a speeding car while crossing the road. A fighter fire stops on his way to a fire after seeing the accident. He gives her CPR, saving her life. He takes Rider to see her at the hospital and stays with him so he isn't alone. Rider’s mom is hurt badly and has only weeks to live if she doesn’t have an expensive surgery. After the doctors tell him this bad news, the cops try to take him to a foster home because he does not have any other family. The firefighter steps in to help Rider find someone to stay with. Rider ends up staying with his old, crabby neighbor his mom has on the emergency contact list. Rider knows his mom doesn't have enough money to pay for the surgery. So,he tries to find a way to pay for it. The neighbor ends up trying to help him find his dad to get money for it. Rider has never met his dad and doesn’t know for sure who it is. He finds clues in his mom's stuff about who his dad might be. The neighbor and Rider travel around trying to find a professional baseball player who they think might be his dad. They meet some not so good people, take risks and endure a lot of challenges. The challenges get Rider into trouble but Rider doesn’t give up on saving his mom. Rider and the neighbor end up making a deal with a very nice guy after a batting comparison Rider thought was his last chance. This guy helps them meet the baseball player who they think might be Rider's dad. Once they meet Riders said to be dad, the guy is shocked, he knew Riders mom from a long time ago and says he used to love her and maybe still does but says he is not his dad. The guy agrees to a test to prove to Rider he isn’t his dad. Right as the testing person is about to go and turn in the tests, Riders, said to be dad's wife, runs in and takes the tests. They never end up actually seeing if he was or was not his dad because the baseball player runs after his wife and is forced to leave. He later comes back and offers to pay for Rider's mom’s life saving surgery anyway. After his mom has recovered and is healthy, the firefighter that saved her falls in love with her and he ends up filling the dad spot in their family. They end up being a happy family.
The author does a great job at building up suspense in the book. He makes you think one thing and then boom it's not that thing. He adds lots of plot twists to keep you guessing. An example of one of these plot twists is when Rider and the professional baseball player are taking saliva tests to see if he is Rider's dad, the baseball player's wife comes in yelling and screaming. She takes the test box and storms out of the room. Rider was so close to maybe knowing his dad and then it changed with her actions. There are many situations like this in the book when Rider is close to getting what he needs and then is stopped. This book has lots of wait, what just happened moments. In other words, there are lots of misleading clues and characters' actions lead to distractions. The beginning of the book was really sad. I did not like how it was told with bad news after more bad news. Rider blames himself for the accident and the author makes you feel like it's his fault because they were arguing before it happened. When the speeding car was to blame for hitting her. I think the writer should have left the argument between Rider and his mom out of the story. Rider had so many bad things happen to him, it was sad and depressing.
In the end this book was good, not great. I would still recommend this book to teens, athletes, and baseball fans. I would tell people interested in reading it that there are thrills in the book but a lot of the book is sad. The author uses good detail, and describes situations well. The ending was a bit expected from how it was told but it tied it together nicely. This book was believable and realistic. I plan to read another book by Tim Green, because I like sports books with a good story line. I connected to the book because I have had someone in the hospital who was accidentally hurt badly. Our family had to keep going and try to find ways to help even when we couldn't be there. The sadness and fear felt while they are in intensive care makes everyday hard. From this I have learned that you can never give up on them and you have to keep trying and fighting for them.
A 13 year old teenage boy just got told that his mom only had 3 weeks to live unless he finds $200,000 without insurance assistance. “Lost Boy” is a book written by Tim Green, with a lexile level of 730. I have read three books in the past nine weeks, which were all by Tim Green. Tim Green is such a great author because he gets the reader hooked right by only reading the first sentence of each book. While I was reading this book, I was affected personally by it. In the first 14 pages, Ryder’s mom got hit by a fire truck and was injured badly. She was taken to the hospital and after she arrived at the hospital her son Ryder and Doyle, who was the fire fighter driving the truck at the time, sat down with the doctor. The doctor gave them a horrible update on her condition as she only had about 3 weeks to live unless she gets surgery. That got me thinking that day as I read it, how would I be if I was in Ryder’s shoes at that point, so I put myself in Ryder’s shoes. What would I do if I was an only child living with only my mom, who was injured and needed surgery to live but neither of us had the money needed for surgery. What would I do if my potential biological dad was a professional baseball player, who may have the money to help my mom? “How long do I… we have? To get the money?” Doyle said. “She cannot go very long as she is. Three, maybe four weeks”, said the doctor (p. 19 and 20). Ryder will definitely need a miracle to save his mom.
There is a lot of things that I enjoyed throughout the book that kept my interest. The beginning of the book didn’t just start with the walk home and Ryder’s mom getting hit by the fire truck, it started with background knowledge about Ryder being a mommy’s boy. Ryder typically did not go and do things with friends, instead he would go home to spend time with his mom. “Oh, man, I wish I could. Sorry, Jason, but thanks a lot.”( page 3). “What?’ He flashed his eyes at her, daring her to say it. She pressed her lips tight, then spoke. ‘A mamma’s boy, Ryder” (page 4). The author also made Doyle a main part of the book as Doyle was the one driving the fire truck when Ryder’s mom was injured. As a reader, I am guessing that Doyle helped Ryder and his mom out so they wouldn’t be so mad when she came around. Doyle even acted like a close family friend when all the doctors or judge asked who he was. Ryder did not tell anyone differently because he all he wanted was his mom healed.
I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in sports and suspense. Will Ryder’s mom be able to have surgery and survive the three to four week life expectancy? I would recommend this book for the students in 5th through 8th grade, after 8th grade this book maybe easy to read. I recommend this book because I never wanted to put the book down as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I think this will be your experience too. Reading this book about what Ryder had to go through definitely got some emotions involved. You can feel yourself becoming part of the book and hoping this does not happen in real life. The book ending was not predictable because all the obstacles with his neighbor kept popping up through the book. The book wasn’t confusing at all and in fact it was really fun to read. My favorite part is when Ryder meets, what he thinks, is his real father. The ending of the book caught me by surprise and I still don’t believe what happened at the end. I had to read the ending of the book over and over because a miracle is amazing, especially when a life is saved.
The story's exposition starts with the protagonist Ryder who is in middle school, he lives alone with his mom. One day he is walking with his mom and she gets hit by a drunk driver which puts her in the hospital. He gets told the price is $200,000 to fix her heart and she will die in 2 weeks. In the rising action he then has to find a way to pay for the surgery, and goes into her moms closet to find a baseball signed by his dad. He then figures out his dad is a professional baseball player, so he tries 5 different times to meet his dad, from winning an award to meet the players, getting tickets, and even running in front of his car to get his attention. He finally gets his dads attention after getting a ball signed by him and showing him the special baseball. His dad meets him in the hospital to help his mom. Lastly in the resolution he pays for his moms surgery and tells him he always loved her and he lived happily ever with his new dad.
I can relate to this book by the amount of perseverance that Ryder used while trying to save his mom. He had no family left, and he had to raise $200,000, he kept trying his hardest and never gave up on his mom. I can relate because during some soccer matches, my team has been losing 3-0 and I wanted to give up but I kept persevering and didn't give up, and won multiple games while losing 3-0. Overall I can relate in many different ways by the amount of work he used, like I put in while studying or playing soccer and the amount of perseverance he used to save his mom.
Some likes I had about this story is how it was very action filled, it starts with his mother getting hit by a drunk driver, then he finds out his father is a professional baseball player then last he realized he had saved his moms life. Another like I had about this story is how it is a 1st person book. It gave me the point of view of Ryder who has to deal with school, has to deal with getting $200,000 and on top of that he has zero family to help him survive. Some dislikes I had about this story is how sometimes Ryder would make dumb decisions like running and diving out in front of his dads car to get his attention, he would do dumb stuff when he could do smarter things to get his dads attention. This made the book feel almost like scripted and it was less fun to read. Another dislike I had about this story was the book was too long, I wish it would have gone right to the point rather than the book being around 300 pages.. Overall this was an amazing book, I would recommend this book to anyone that likes sports and just about anyone in general.

In the book Lost Boy, by Tim Green, the main character, Ryder Strong, goes through a series of events to save his mothers life. Between meeting his real father, winning a batting contest, and traveling to Atlanta, Ryder is determined to get two hundred thousand dollars before his mom's heart valves stop working. On his way his neighbor, Mr. Starr brings Ryder to meet his real dad. The firefighter that hit his mother, Doyle McDonald, helps raise money for a surgery that his mother, Ruby Shoesmith needs to stay alive. Ryder's dad, Thomas Trent is a professional baseball player and Ryder wants to be just like him. In the end Ruby has recovered and Ryder is living a normal life with a new dad, Doyle.
The things that I liked about this book is that when they are doing an action or feeling an emotion you feel it too, it is like you are in the book. “Then he remembered pulling back from her, and her pulling him too, only she slipped and got hit by a car, breaking her ribs and leg and smashing her heart so that it would fail any day now and all he could do was watch and wait. Everything went dark. Ryder cried out.” The other thing that I like that the author does is hook the reader so that you want to keep reading. I finished this book in a week! Tim Green also does a good job of explaining things, little details, about where they are and what they are doing. “They were all marched down a series of hallways, up an elevator, through a back room, and into the courtroom before the judge.”
Some of the reasons that I liked this book is because I am a sports fan and love playing sports. Another reason is that it was so real, it was a real life situation that was happening though it is a nonfiction book. Some of my favorite parts in the book are when Ryder was trying to find his dad so he could have enough money for his mom's surgery. I also liked the ending because it told you what happened after the story ended a year earlier. One more thing is that the whole story was actually a book that Mr. Starr wrote, which I think was pretty exciting. I recommend this book for sixth to eighth graders, not because it is hard to read, but Ryder is about the same age and it is a real thing that some people could be going through something similar.
Lost boy by Tim Green. Ryder’s mom gets hit by a firetruck after Ryder pulls away from her because of their argument. Then Ryder is taken care of by the fireman named Doyle until his mom gets better. Ryder's mom needs a new heart valve that costs two hundred thousand dollars to replace but they don’t have close to enough money. Doyle gets the FDNY name and logo to help raise money but they can’t raise enough money in time. Ryder didn’t know who his dad was but Mr. Star his neighbor, found Thomas Trent who was Ryder's real dad but he just didn’t claim that he was. Ryder entered a batting contest to get access to the dugout so he could talk to Mr. Trent but he didn’t help. So Ryder and Mr. Star went back to New York and tried another way to make the money but they couldn’t so they went to say goodbye but as they were at the hospital Thomas Trent came and paid for the surgery.
Tim Green made the book feel like it was in real time and it was a very good book. Since the author made it feel like it was actually real you just don’t want to stop reading until it is over. The book was kind off all over the place because one second Ryder is in New York and the next second he is in atlanta finding his actual dad and since it was all over the place it made the book more enjoyable because it wasn’t boring like some books can be when they just are about one little detail.
I think anyone that likes books that the people are determined would like to read this book. Throughout the book it wasn’t too hard or confusing. There is no way you could predict this book unless you already read it or you know what it’s about but even if you do it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen. The author makes it seem like it’s never going to end and throughout the book everything is basically a cliffhanger because on one page Ryder's mom could be on the edge of dying. Tim Green made the ending how the book should end instead of other random endings.

The Lost boy by Tim Green is a book about a young boy named Ryder who has a dream to be a baseball star one day. After baseball practice Ryder was playing with his friends when his mom came to take him home from practice Ryder and his mom where playing around and just having a good time when they got into a argument when his mom trips and falls into the street and get struck by a truck at the hospital Ryder finds out that the operation to save his mom is expensive at home Ryder finds a ball signed by a major league player and goes on a quest with his neighbor and new York fire fighter to find the player he is convinced is his dad will Ryder get the money he need or will he be a lost boy forever? I think the author did a great good of putting the book together and just the little details in the beginning that could slip by into bigger details that can later help solve his problems. Like on page 205 when the guy from the batting contest congratulates him on his 98 hits later his kid wins it and ends up letting Ryder being bat boy for one of the games that later one helps him in their journey. I highly recommend this book to anyone and especially middle schoolers who like sports books because it's about baseball and it has a lot of action. I really enjoyed it just because of how smooth things were in the book and how everything perfectly lined up and had stuff you don't always see in other books. Most of the time it was so easy to read but sometimes there are parts that you have to pay a little more attention to get the full detail. I thought the ending of the book was great with Ryder's mom recovering from the accident with Thomas Trent giving the money to do so, and Ryder's mom and Doyle the NYC firefighter getting married.
Lost boy by Tim green The story is about a kid named Ryder who mother got hit by a car and they needed to get 200,000 dollars for a heart valve replacement.he was with a man in a wheelchair named Mr.Starr and Doyle who was helping raise money. They need to find his dad and find a baseball in his mothers closet and it reads Thomas Trent .They do research to find him and he is a mlb player they go to meets and try to talk but going in front of car Ryder snuck in and even buying tickets. He eventually finds a bat boy competition and gets second but talks first into let him be bat boy just one time .When he does be the bat boy he calls out his dad and he avoids hi and tells him to see his lawyer. He is about to give money when the wife walks in and yells at them and he doesn't .In the end he does get the money and his mom is saved.. I loved this book it was very original and i felt right good.it was kinda easy but very easy to read for a hour .the ending was kinda unpredictable also .It made it good because it was about mlb and baseball. It felt like that when the mom got hit it was a good problem to do and needing the money because they can't afford. Also it affected where she got hit that to spend time with your family as they last.It was happy when she saved. I recommend this book to sport lovers because it's a great book about sports .Even if you don't like sports I would give this book a shot. I connection to sports and also it was so unpredictable . it was kinda easy but a bit hard to read . IT could have been harder to read .It was written well and I feel like not sloppy . I rate this book 9/10. By axel
I think the book wallows in its own grimness for too much of the book for the sudden, miracle! happy! ending to really work that effectively, but I actually did enjoy the seriousness with which it dealt with its subject matter in a middle grade book. Young readers who actually like being taken seriously and maturely and are able to handle the realities of the ugliness of adults and the fact that sometimes there are things that just can't be helped, no matter how spunky and earnest the main character tries to remain is exactly why the last little "and they lived happily ever after" seems a little too twee here. Still, the whole book wasn't completely doom and gloom, with Ryder, although maybe a little bland as a character, still doing his best to remain a good kid despite what he has to deal with, and showing the basic goodness of character that can come about in humans in the face of tragedy. Mr. Starr definitely helped the book along in every way possible, being the biggest factor in pushing the plot ahead, and his antics in general just being entertaining.
Also, audiobook: it's read by the author, who has a pretty good voice for narrating. Just...he's a little too loud and shrill when characters are angry and shouting. It made me cringe quite a bit, especially because Mr. Starr is *usually* angry and shouting. Emoting is good, but blasting the listener's ears is not.

Have you ever been lost before? Who did you have to run to? The book “Lost Boy” was wrote by Tim Green. The lexile level is for the book “Lost Boy” is 730L. In “Lost Boy” Ryder a 12 you old boy loses his mom after she fell in the street and had really bad injuries. She was in ICU until she could get 200,000 dollars. Ryder's dad left when he was little but there's a twist to the story his dad is an all star pitcher in the MLB. In the book “Lost Boy” he had a mom and one handicapped person that's they have no family. The theme in this book is never give up always keep trying. The setting of where they lived was a rundown apartment. The one person that Ryder had was Mr. Starr he would never stop trying no matter what happened. Ryder wanted to give up but then Mr.Starr would let him. An example on this is when Mr. Starr and Ryder got kicked out of the stadium and they weren’t allowed to come back in but they tried again. The theme can apply to everyone never give up. This book was one of favorite books it was relatable when you have a family member in ICU it is hard to deal with. Tim Green did a good job at keeping the end not-predictable which made you want to keep reading. The book was easy to read but was still fun to read. My favorite part was when Thomas Trent showed up and it was so unexpected. It was a little complicated to understand but I would recommend to everyone above 6th grade. What’s the worst thing that has happened to you was it this bad?
I had never read a book by this author before, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting it to mainly be a sports book with a little bit if plot, but it was actually a very sweet, sad, coming-of-age story that revolved around baseball.
Ryder's love for his mother and his drive to find his father is incredibly endearing. I appreciate how it didn't have a stereotypical happy ending where his father dropped everything to come into his life. His dad actually ending up being more or less an antagonist, only being redeemed by paying for Ryder's mother's surgery at the end.
The issue of Ryder needing a father figure is resolved in two ways: His mother marries officer Doyle, who takes over the role of "dad." Mr. Starr, who Ryder bonded with throughout the book, also clearly has a friendship with Ryder that will last a lifetime, and becomes another father figure.
My main issue is the lack of diversity. To my memory, every character is white. For this, I'm only rating 4 stars. There is, however, a main character in a wheelchair, which is good.

Lost Boy by, Tim Green was a great book. This book about a kid named Ryder and how his life was full of somewhat tragic events and all lead out to a great ending. Through ought this book there were many heart warming, and sad surprises and events. Also this book involved his life story and how he had to fight for everything he got.
My opinion of this book was very good. One of my favorite part was when Ryder got to meet his dad in the clubhouse and it was full of anxiousness and mystery, also somewhat heartwarming at the end. There was really nothing bad I could say about this book. It was great.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery, action, and heartwarming surprises. If you like any of these topics you will love this book. Overall this book was full of sad and great events but ended up turning out OK, and had a great ending. I personally loved this book, and I'm sure you will too.
I'm always wary when I find an audiobook that is narrated by the author because I've found the quality of the performances to be a mixed bag, but Tim Green generally did a great job of changing voices and inserting a lot of emotion into the telling of the story. There were some parts that were actually hard to listen to when characters "lost it" with anger or sadness due to Green's portrayal of these events.
Although the cover of the book features a boy with a bat in his hand, baseball takes a back seat to the main plot of Ryder searching for his father so he can help his mom who doesn't have long to live in the hospital after a recent freak accident. Due to this general lack of sports action, I wouldn't recommend this to one of my inexperienced readers who is only now getting into reading through sports books, but this might be a nice transition book for someone who is ready to step out of his/her comfort zone and into some meatier plots.
Lost Boy The main conflict in this story begins when Ryder’s mom, Ruby is hit by a truck and is now struggling to stay alive. She needs an expensive surgery to save her. Ryder knows they don’t have the money to pay for her surgery. He decided to track down his father because he think he will have the money to pay for the surgery. The plot of this story is about a boy named Ryder who is raised by his mother named Ruby in New York City. One day Ruby is in a horrible accident and needs surgery to save her. Ryder knows they don’t have money. I like the story because the main character is trying to find money to help his mother. The connection i have about this story is that i once had to find money to help my family member to with their medical problem as well.
The main conflict in this story begins when Ryder's mom, Ruby is hit by a truck and is now struggling to stay alive and needs an expensive surgery to save her. Ryder knows they don't have the money to pay for the surgery so he decides to track down his father because he thinks he will have the money to pay for it. The plot of this story is about a boy named Ryder who is being raised by his mother Ruby in New York City. One day Ruby is in a horrible accident and needs an expensive surgery to survive. Ryder knows that they don't have the money to pay for this so he decides to look for his father to see if he will help.
This is about a book where his mom is in the hospital after a car crash and he has no money for the surgeries. I think this is a good book because Ryder goes on adventures to find his dad who plays baseball.
The author tries to show the emotions the character is feeling at all times. Has cliffhangers and likes what is going to happen next. I think he writes so many great books.
You should read this book! This is an amazing book. An amazing author. I think you should read this book as soon as possible. If you like this book you can look at all the good books Tim Green wrote.
Characters: 10/10 Everyone is pretty well developed. We see their fears and how it holds them back from what is right, but at the very end, they try to fix their mistakes from the pasts.
Plot: 100/10 Ryder’s, a talented young baseball player on his school’s team, mom is hospitalized in an accident, and they don’t have much money for a life-saving surgery she needs. So he sets out to find his absent father for help. Ryder, along with his grumpy neighbor, go looking for the man. It’s very emotional as Ryder goes through hard, heart-wrenching moments that no boy his age deserves, all for his mom.
Content: 10/10 No cursing, one or two mentions of crap
Would I recommend? 100% If you need a good cry, this is the book 💕
I think this is a great book. This book a boy named Ryder who has lived with only for as long as he could remember. They were a pair and did everything together. Until one day Ryder's whole life came to a stop. His mom is in the hospital and it's all his fault. The doctor gives Ryder his mothers diagnosis. His mom a very expensive operation to survive. Ryder is alone now but with the help of his neighbor and an FDNY firefighter, Ryder tries to figure how to deal with the operation. I would recommend this book to people who like a sports story's with some suspense.
I almost put this book down because the plot became very romanticized at times. What made me finish the book was the depth of characterization, not just for the young protagonist but for a few supporting characters. The conflicts were very solid despite sometimes being a bit over the top. I’m glad I finished the novel. The book was entertaining once it got past the sap, and I found the ending to be rather insightful into why some people keep repeating the same mistakes over and over.
It was a good book it talks about how Ryder the main character his mom got hit by a big truck. He does not know his dad and all he has is his mom. He goes on a mission to find out who his dad is and tries to see if he can save his mom he goes into a competition and if he wins he gets to be the bat boy for Braves and he believes that his dad is one of the pitchers on the team he works hard and travels to different states for his mother.
Lost Boy is a very captivating and thrilling book about treachery and deception. I felt that the main character, Ryder was very easy to connect with and understand. Ryder's mom was recently hit by a truck after stumbling in the street, and Ryder will stop at nothing, even if it means a trip to Atlanta with a grouchy neighbor to find his Dad who plays pro baseball and raising money with a FDNY firefighter. Overall this is an amazing read and has very good characters.
What I thought was good because it was about baseball and family. The story Ryder mom gets hit by a truck. Ryder has to get money to save his mom. So Ryder has to find his dad to get money and he thinks it is a baseball player.
