The Blessed and Boundless God

Therefore, he carefully applies his doctrine by demonstrating how God's incomparableness informs, counsels, and comforts us. Swinnock is becoming a favorite of mine. He’s excellent in using imagery and in being concise. I have broader and more robust view of God after reading this and it is worth the re-read.
This was actually used as a bedtime devo for my wife and I since the chapters were so short!

I picked this book off the shelf knowing absolutely nothing about the author. I simply chose it as it was a shorter read I could finish before the year’s end.

It was spectacular. Simple concise. Clear. Packed full of scripture and doxological in nature.

Easy enough for a novice on the doctrine of God, but deep and stirring enough for any and all mature Christians.

Potentially a top 5 Puritan book all-time for me.

Swinnock is mercifully succinct in his writing style, but still uses full, illustrious language that leaves the reader satisfied in his definitions and arguments. Additionally, Swinnock is distinctly pastoral in the warm, gentle pleas given to the reader, urging him or her to see the wonder of who God is.

A beautiful book that is so doctrinally rich, spiritually nourishing, and devotionally empowering.

I found myself not only learning more about God and his essential attributes, but also being convicted by Swinnock’s absolute devotion to the Lord. The work of the Puritans are set apart for their amazing ability to balance doctrinal fortitude and spiritual reflection.

Read this book. It will encourage you.

Y’all best be sprinting to the book store to pick up this book. My word it is glorious. Deeply impactful on how I view the Lord and live in reflection on who He is. It does get a little repetitive at points but only because how can one express the infinitudes of the Lord without contrasting man in our finiteness. He is beyond our comprehension yet we can still know Him! How wondrous!

As the blessed and boundless God, God is incomparable in his being (incommunicable attributes), in his attributes (communicable), works (creation, providence, redemption), and words.

Swinnock’s high theology proper is meant to drive us to worship and application. He seeks to present the incomparable God before us so as to motivate us and propel us to make this God our portion and joy.

What a delightful listen this was. I am always excited to find good audiobooks like this on Hoopla! I find that my Hoopla has significantly more Christian resources (at least the ones I am looking for) than my Libby app. It’s such a nice bonus that my Hoopla has the Puritan Treasures for Today series available to download. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this, and it was very accessible. I plan to listen to the rest of the series through Hoopla as well as this recording was great quality.

This book was wonderful! This 'abridged' version of his original text provides a needed brevity to the daunting Puritan style of writing. The edits made did not diminish Swinnock's wonderful vivid illustrations of biblical truth!
The format of this book makes it easy to pick up and put down due to the short chapters, making it a convenient travel buddy for my purse as I was working through it. If you are a new convert or looking to deepen your understanding of God as a believer, this book is definitely for you!

A great, little book on the greatness of God. In forty-five short chapters, George Swinnick gives a comprehensive doctrine of God. This book has been made easily accessible for modern readers.

I highly recommend this book for all Christians who want to grown in their knowledge of God. This book will have you more in awe of God than when you began to read the book.

This little book really is exceptional. Wonderfully edifying, it packs a lot of punch for a truly pocket-size book. Swinnock makes an overwhelming case for the incomparableness of God succinctly and thoroughly. Surely an antidote for spiritual apathy & rote worship, if ever there was one.
