In Found: God’s Peace, trusted pastor and teacher John MacArthur tackles this vital question head-on. Throughout the book, MacArthur shares principles to help you overcome uncertainty, defeat worry, and experience true freedom from anxiety.
As Pastor John MacArthur writes, the key to worry-free living is to replace worry with prayer, right thinking, and action. Here he draws on rich biblical truths to show us how.
John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
Short and straightforward, but packed with simple, yet rich truth.
"Some people assume worry is the result of too much thinking. Actually, it's the result of too little thinking in the right direction. If you know who God is and understand His purposes, promises, and plans, it will help you not to worry."
Straight to the point and encouraging. It is small enough to go through with a friend struggling with anxiety. John MacArthur goes straight for the jugular of anxiety with the most powerful weapon that every Christian has; God's very own peace. Nice book and will be one I recommend to others.
This is a short 3-chapter piece, expanded from another of MacArthur's books, contains biblical guidance on how to address the roots of anxiety. It touches the surface of how to approach one's fears with both real-life examples of people who have experienced anxiety as well as Scripture that can help a person experience greater trust in the Lord. I found the book helpful in addressing anxiety from a spiritual standpoint, but I don't think it addresses larger issues - like genuine brain chemistry problems, and it seems to take a sour view of counselors as a whole. Then again, it's a shortened version of another book, and maybe that addresses more than what these few chapters can.
I was gifted this book by a dear friend. I decided to use it as a morning devotional. As someone who has suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks from a very young age, I would highly recommend this book to anyone dealing with anxiety, discontent, worry, stress... It is filled with biblical truths.
Really encouraging. Solid teaching from the bible. Very simple, direct. I'm a worrier by nature, but have only only experienced anxiety occasionally. In the last year I have grown tremendously in the area of trusting God: not just saying I do, but actually resting in his promises and acknowledging that he is on my side and only wants what is best for me. Entering in to a new relationship and losing my job were too very great challenges for me. This book is incredibly helpful in reinforcing the facts of God's love, sovereignty and provision. As I said, I was greatly encouraged by reading it. So much so, that I started reading it again. I suspect even this second read won't be the last.
This book is very encouraging and helpful. My only issue was his putting down of psychology in general. This is not helpful to the body as there are some people with legitimate issues who might feel they are in sin if they seek additional help. We wouldn’t tell someone with a broken leg not to see a doctor, so why would we tell someone with legit mental issues the same. Most mental issues have a physical component. That being said, MacArthur does a great job of giving us very practical spiritual help when dealing with anxiety. I love the scriptures he shares in this book.
Amazing book on anxiety and how the Lord gives us peace in any circumstance!! “If you understand that God is using all the difficulties you face to perfect you, you’ll be at peace. It is not all for nothing. You may not always know why you’re going through this or that, but be encouraged that there is a good reason.”
Easy to read in just a few hours as I did today. Practical help on anxiety. Some great quotes from Jay Adams and insights on how we can trust God's plan. Anxiety is always knocking so having a quick read is very useful.
Clear. Constructive. Mercifully Concise. I think this book is a wonderful biblical primer for dealing with anxiety. It was full of beneficial reminders and would make a fantastic tool for helping others out of the pits of anxiety.
JMac is so good at laying scriptural truths out for his readers. This is a must have for all who battle anxious thoughts and feelings. It’s a good reminder to fight your fears with scripture. He is where the peace is and He is where the joy is!
Great little book for taking your anxious thoughts captive in Christ. I love the list of Psalms to read and pray in the back.
Captive missionary’s prayer, “Lord, there isn’t really any use for both of us to stay awake tonight. If You are going to keep watch, I’ll thank Thee for some sleep!”
Short read examining peace in the life of a believer. Speaks of bringing your anxieties to the Lord and the hope we have in Him despite any circumstances. Good book!
I am continually disappointed with this author. The introduction promised a look at anxiety with a proper example, but then quickly equalized anxiety and common worry as the same thing. Skip JMac.
A short but impactful read that I will revisit. I really appreciate the inclusion of specific psalms at the end of this book that left me with an amazing sense of peace.
