Neil Gaiman'ın hikayelerine girişler beni her defasında fazlasıyla etkilemiştir.

"Enlighten the child. Show him what magic truly is, and what it was, and what it may become. He has the potential to become the most powerful human adept of this age. It's up to the four of us to ensure that he chooses his path correctly. That is our mission, and our burden."

Neil Gaiman's Books of Magic #1: The Invisible Labyrinth, tells of 4 masters of the occult and their decision, reached after some rough deliberation, to show Tim Hunter, possibly the greatest magician of his age, the ways of magic, and allow him to choose his own path. Accompanied by a Dark Walker, he takes a journey to the past to learn about the history of magic, meeting Merlin along the way.

The faded pastel watercolor art has an almost impressionist feel, in keeping with the ephemeral and unclear nature of magic, suiting this first issue perfectly. The journey is mystical, with great writing by Gaiman.

In the first issue of Books of Magic, Gaiman introduces us to a boy destined to wield great power named Timothy Hunter. We also meet mystics from the Gaimanverse such as John Constantine, Mister E, Doctor Occult and the Phantom Stranger who each have their task ahead of them to help Timothy choose between the good or the bad side… or if it is up to Mister E. to murder him. It is a fascinating story having three guides who are sent to show him what this power can give him, what came before him and what is to come; it is a Messiah narrative, if ever I’ve seen one.

I don’t know how I felt about the book. The story felt a little long-winded and meandering---which I feel is the point, but it still bothered me. I’m hoping for something better in the next few issues.

This is my first book by Neil Gaiman and first graphic novel i read in last 8 years . This one is a small book under 100 pages and i am very keen to read next parts . It is quite interesting as the story is taking place slowly and it seems adventure and fantasy like harry potter may be....

Peak Neil Gaiman. So trippy and weird and lovely. So nerdy and historical but also fresh and new.
