Gabriel Karne is cautiously optimistic. Life seems to be settling down into a nice even keel.
It’s a new year and the former con artist has a permanent-for-now address. Even Keith-the-cat seems to like it there. No more rickety sailboats and living out of go-bags for Gabriel Karne. No surprises. No dead bodies.
Romance-wise, he and Ranger Man are easing into being a couple. A lifetime of habits is hard to break for both of them but they’re getting there.
Gabe even has a job. Will he regret agreeing to it? Probably but it’s almost legal, so baby steps.
Then a strange young woman claiming to be his long-lost daughter appears on his new doorstep, and she has some sketchy documentation to prove it. It’s not impossible, but Gabe wasn’t born yesterday, and Heidi Karne was his mother, after all. And another damn letter—this one from a stranger—shows up. The author claims to be a friend of Heidi’s and to have some of his late mother’s belongings. Just great.
It's pretty clear that the past isn't done with him yet.
Elle Keaton is a writer, avid reader, and amateur cat-wrangler. Her love of romance novels has led her to a life of creating her own happy ever afters. She is the author of the best selling series' Shielded Hearts and Veiled Intentions. Keaton hails from the Pacific Northwest, where she lives with her husband and cats.
Note: The Subtle Deceptions series is a same-couple series that features some overarching plotlines, so it’s essential to have read The Last Grift andBait and Switch first.
This third book in Elle Keaton’s Subtle Deceptions series featuring former grifter Gabriel Karne and park ranger Casey Lundin, finds Gabe trying to unravel more of his mother’s mysterious past and Casey trying to repair his relationship with his brother after the latter’s release from prison.
When Skin Game begins, Gabe receives a an unexpected visit from a young woman who claims she’s his daughter and offers DNA evidence as proof. If Gabe didn’t already have reason to be suspicious, he knows damn well he’s never left his DNA anywhere – he recognises her claim as the grift it undoubtedly is, but can’t work out why anyone would target him in this way.
His friend, Elton, has asked for a favour on behalf of his lady-friend, Althea, who works at the sheriff’s department. Althea’s granddaughter’s deadbeat ex-boyfriend still has a necklace that is of huge sentimental value and she’s asked Gabe if he can get it back. Casey isn’t wild about the idea, but knows Gabe well enough by now to know that he’s going to do it regardless so tries instead to just know as little about it as possible and just reminds him to be careful. It’s not really breaking and entering because Gabe has a key (sure, Gabe); he finds the necklace but the deadbeat ex shows up just as he’s about to leave and chases him outside.
As if that wasn’t bad enough for one Monday, Gabe then receives a letter from someone claiming to have been his mother’s friend (which is the first he’s heard of Heidi actually having friends) and asking him to come to collect some things Heidi left with her. He’s not exactly eager; Heidi had so many secrets and he’s kinda done with them, but he and Casey head to Seattle to collect the items – which turn out to be a stack of boxes and a very sturdy (and ugly) wooden chair.
Returned to Heartstone, he and Casey starts looking through the boxes for clues as to why Heidi might have given all this stuff to someone to look after – someone he’s never met or heard mention of – and eventually finds an old high-school year book that indicates not only that Heidi was born in or around Heartstone, but that she began life as Holly Pritchard. Discovering this has Gabe trying to work out how and why and when Holly became Heidi and turned into the supreme grifter that she was.
Meanwhile, Casey is struggling to rebuild his relationship with his brother, Mickie, who was sent to prison for a murder he did not commit almost years earlier and who has, thanks to the exposure of the corrupt dealings of the former sheriff in book two (Bait and Switch). Casey has a sneaking suspicion that Mickie is keeping secrets and is deliberately keeping him at a distance; he’s trying to respect Mickie’s boundaries, but it’s difficult for him because all he really wants to do is to be there for his brother and BE a brother again.
As Gabe continues to dig into Heidi’s past, he discovers she may have been involved in a decades old art-theft – and someone out there is prepared to do whatever it takes it discover the whereabouts of those priceless stolen paintings
Skin Game is another enjoyable outing for the “charming fucker” and his “ranger man” in which the author skilfully pulls together her various plot-threads to create a satisfying mystery at the same time as she continues to develop the central romance. Gabe and Casey are still feeling their way a bit, but they’re definitely in it for the long haul now, and willing to lower their walls to let the other in. Gabe is still a trouble-magnet who tends to rush into things and Casey, always his support and voice of reason, is learning that he needs to “grab on and hold tight” (be on hand with the first-aid kit and be ready to kiss the boo-boos) when Gabe gets up a head of steam.
The mystery is tightly plotted, the romance is progressing nicely and I like the characters; my one niggle really is the reappearance of members of the Delacombe family - many of whom have appeared in other books by this author - which still feels a bit like fan-service - but I enjoyed the book overall and will no doubt be picking up the next one.
This is book 3 in the Subtle Deceptions series, and you should read the first two books before starting this one so you can get a better understanding of the main characters and the community that they live in.
This story begins with a new mystery for Gabe involving his mom’s past, and additional belongings she had someone else hold onto that he was completely unaware of. Discovering her real name in her high school yearbook was the beginning of trying to figure out how Heidi/Holly really ended up becoming such a con artist. A decades old art heist ends up being at the heart of it all, and the reason Gabe ends up kidnapped while trying to piece together his mom’s misspent youth.
Casey has his own quandary he is dealing with when he admits to Gabe how hard it is to understand the reason his brother has continued to keep him at a distance since his release from prison after he was exonerated in the last book when the truth was revealed about the murder he was falsely accused of committing. Casey feels like Mickie is keeping secrets, but Gabe keeps encouraging him not to write him off just yet.
Gabe and Casey are still new at relationships and know they will continue to make mistakes, but feel as long as they can communicate and keep trying, they will eventually be on solid ground. There is real love between them, and when Gabe was kidnapped it was eye opening for both to realize how much they do love and care about each other. Elton is also a great support for both men and a sounding board when they are trying to understand what their lives mean to one another.
Elle has a wonderfully creative mind when writing these romantic suspense books, and the readers are engaged immediately and don’t want to put them down until they are done. While some mysteries may be solved, new ones are always started so we must be patient while we wait for the next story. A great sign of a must read author like Elle Keaton.
Skin Game by Elle Keaton is the third book in the series, and while it can technically be read on its own, I highly recommend starting from the beginning. The emotional depth, character dynamics, and the tight-knit Heartstone community really shine when you understand the journey that led here.
This installment gives us more of everything readers love: more Ranger Man and Charming F***er banter, more found and chosen family moments, and deeper emotional stakes. The mystery kicks off when Gabe learns shocking information about his mother’s past—including that she lived under an assumed name and may have been connected to the Heartstone community as a con artist. When belongings she left behind surface, Gabe is pulled into what appears to be her very first con, and quickly discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Danger, vengeance, and long-buried secrets collide as Gabe, Casey, and Elton work together to uncover the truth and give Gabe the closure he deserves.
Alongside the central mystery, Casey continues to struggle with rebuilding a relationship with his brother after his release from prison, while the fallout from the former sheriff’s criminal empire keeps expanding in unexpected ways. These layered storylines add real weight and tension to the book.
What really stands out is the continued growth of the characters and their relationships. Watching walls come down and trust slowly build between Gabe and Casey is incredibly rewarding, and their evolving dynamic feels authentic and earned. There’s plenty of fun, action, and adventure along the way, but it’s the emotional growth that truly elevates the story.
Thank you to the author for an advance copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving this honest, personal, and unbiased review.
Gabe unwittingly gets involved in an old con, likely his Mom’s first efforts to steal something. He does a favour for Althea, Elton’s paramour, by rescuing a necklace of her granddaughter’s from her ex, Randy. Randy comes home and chases him but he escapes.
A young woman shows up and claims he’s her Dad, but he knows it’s a con and sends her away, but notes the name on her paperwork is Pritchard.
Next, he gets a letter about some things of his Mom’s she left with a friend, necessitating a trip to Seattle to pick up a bunch of junk he doesn’t want. He and Casey go together and bring back some boxes and an ugly chair he names Alfred.
He doesn’t get why his Mom would leave these things for him, but finds her school picture, and learns her name was Holly Pritchard. He does some research but can’t find out more about her, but something is definitely wrong.
One night someone shoots out his window while he and Casey are sleeping. Finally, he’s ambushed and taken, and it’s up to Casey and Elton to figure out what’s going on.
It turns out the Pritchards had a plan to steal some paintings when Holly was young and she became involved, then kept the paintings and ran off. Now the family wants them back, but Gabe doesn’t know where they are.
Casey and Elton, with some family and friends, turn up and arrest all the Pritchards, and Gabe cleverly figures out where his Mom hid the paintings.
Loved this book, with some surprises and some sweet romance, lots of fun and adventure. Keaton delivers another great read, waiting for more!
I received this ARC for free and am happily providing my honest review with appreciation.
I loved this story even though I didn't know what was going on too much of time. You knew the young woman claiming to be his daughter was lying and not a surprise that she ended up being murdered and he had to explain why she had his name and address on her. The trip to the absolutely disgusting house to retrieve the necklace of course involved his getting attacked because he seems to attract trouble. The letter sent to him via Elton from his mother about things she wanted him to have was a surprise and I was glad that Casey went with him to retrieve the boxes and the ugliest chair ever made. Finding the yearbook that showed his mom in 1978 with the name of Holly Pritchard and remembering that the young woman had that name on a list made him realize that there was connection unknown to him. He remembered his mom stealing paintings when he was a kid and he wondered if she was involved in an unsolved art theft he read about while researching his mother's past and since she was the ultimate grifter you knew she was. His attack and being kidnapped was upsetting but I was happy that Paul and Etienne who lived up in the Valley called Casey about people being in the area helped them locate Gabe before the horrible Althea could kill him. She was truly horrible and I was glad that Elton was not hurt but angry with her deception and lies. I loved how they found the painting at last and wonder what Shay would do with them. Looking forward to the next book next year.
This series just keeps getting better. Once again, there was a solid mystery that centered around stolen artwork, and of course, bodies kept piling up.
Elle Keaton wrote a fast-paced whodunit that had me glued from the first page. Our favorite opposites-attract couple, Gabriel and Casey, are starting to feel more connected. Gabe never imagined wanting a serious relationship, but Ranger Man Casey is it for him. Casey is equally crazy about Gabe, and it's hard to remember how much hate and distrust they had for each other in the first book.
Problems seem to follow Gabe, and Casey is happy to be there for him. He receives a letter from an old friend of his mother's, that she left some items she wanted Gabe to have if she passed away. Gabe really wants nothing to do with this, but Casey convinces him to get them. The mismatched and uneventful items just confuse Gabe. Why would his mom want him to have this junk? Other questions pile up. Why was there a young woman who insisted she was his daughter when Gabe knew it was a con? Casey will never be bored again.
So much happens in this book, and I can't wait to see Casey and Gabe navigate life and more mysteries. Pick up a copy, I promise you will not regret it. Happy reading.

--Slooooow burn-- who done it mystery-- Hidden history-- The villain isn't really who you would expect-- Gabe... still being Gabe lol-- Gabe cannot catch a break-- Solidified relationship--
Entering into Book 3 of the Subtle Deceptions series, you first see something kind of unexpected. Gabe is starting to put down roots. In book 1 and 2 the building relationship between him and Casey is very slow and raw. Book 3 really solidifies their desire for each other and their future.
Gabe is up to some nonsense, very light for him lol, but still ends up in the same trouble. While their trouble seems small, it quickly spirals out of control.
Unlocking new familial connections and history unravelling after each small new nugget of information.
This book is a quick sweep through about a week and Gabe is either the unluckiest sod around or has something REAL good coming towards the end of the series lol. Between learning the truth of his mom & constantly getting into trouble, the end of the series is a mystery. To me at least lol
If you are wanting kind of a cozy PNW murder mystery with a few flairs of heat and some pet love, this book is really for you. It always makes me feel like I'm back home in the Portland, Oregon region again with the rainy and muddy terrain and deep forests.
Elle Keaton's "Skin Game", is book three in the Subtle Deceptions series. Not a standalone, and quite honestly, the reader should consider backtracking through the earlier Keaton series, because of cameos and name dropping. Gloomy, rain soaked Pacific Northwest (at least in this universe) is just chock full of danger and deception. Gabe and Casey's relationship is moving along nicely, there are a few bumps in the road. Unexpected family dynamics, letters from the past, a kidnapping, those kind of bumps. But Elton is there, a constant, and that helps right things when it goes sideways. Gabe gets pulled into an old con, one of his mom's, and maybe her first. There's also the introduction of a young woman saying that she's Gabe's daughter, and Gabe wants to figure out her con. It's fast paced reading which just sucks you into the story. Lot's of action, a bit of danger. And then there's the building affection between Gabe and Casey. They really are perfect for each other, and it's lovely to see as their walls and suspicions crumble. Just when you think that you've got things figured out, Ms keaton throws something else into the mix. Quite a few surprises and twists. And villains that you just didn't see coming. I received an advanced copy from the author and this is my review.
This series keeps getting better! As the characters grow and their relationship develops it’s wonderful to see their walls lowering and the trust that they have in each other. Both men have followed their own path and letting anybody in doesn’t come easy especially in Gabe’s case, the son of a woman who spent her whole life moving on to the next con and finding her next victim and taught her son everything she knew.
Since Heidi died and led Gabe to Heartstone Island trouble has followed him and this book is no different. A letter, a young woman claiming to be his daughter, break-ins, and murder, life is never dull around Gabe and Casey is adjusting well to the chaos after his quiet orderly life.
I love Elle Keaton’s writing. The story flows and keeps you gripped and Gabe’s humour and his smart mouth is his best weapon. I’m loving the close bond Gabe and Casey have developed with old Elton and he is a feisty one. We also get cameos from Piedras Island and I do love Gabe’s found family.
I loved the teaser into book four and can’t wait to read it and maybe it won’t rain every day! Definitely recommend this book and the series.
Gabe and Casey are back, hoping for a quiet New Year. Gabe has a new address, a job of sorts and a cat named Keith. Just when they thought it was safe, a young woman appears claiming to be Gabe’s daughter which Gabe is sure is not true. He tells her to return with more credible proof. Then a letter arrives from someone who has property that belonged to his mother. He needs to pick it up ASAP. At the same time, Mickie needs a break from Casey’s mothering. The past is not done with them as their week goes from bad to worse.
Together, these two are quite a delight. They may be opposite in some ways but their feelings for each other help them find a way. Heidi’s past is slowly coming to light with Gabe determined to uncover all the facts. Uncovering them comes with consequences, but Gabe and Casey along with their friends can handle anything. Intriguing plot lines with fantastic characters make Skin Game an excellent book for those of us who enjoy some mystery and danger with just the right touch of humor. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
★彡 𝟓 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐒 彡★ Skin Game is another amazing story in this exciting romantic suspense series. You really need to read books one and two first to best enjoy and understand what is going on. Each book leaves questions unanswered but this one really felt like a genuine cliffhanger to me. However, the cliffhanger doesn’t really involve Gabe or Casey.
There was so much going on in this book that it would be impossible to give many details without spoiling the story; the blurb sketches a lot of it out. I really just want to shout READ THIS because it is such a compelling story. Of course, wherever Gabe is dead bodies are bound to show up and either he or Casey will find themselves in grave danger (I’m not saying who in this book). The bad guy was a huge surprise for me and that’s all I’ll say about that.
Elle Keaton can’t write the next book fast enough for me but it’s not nice to pressure authors so I will do my best to wait patiently for the next one. 😍
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
This third book in the stories just kept popping out new surprises and it was great. Another death, a strange visitor at Gabe's door and unexpected odd mementos from Gabe's dead mom, a woman with so many secrets that Gabe has trouble keeping up.
The suspense and action is great, but I also love the way Elle Keaton constructs the romance between Gabe and Casey. Their intimate moments are more about emotionally connecting though steam does pay a few visits, whether or not their living conditions are a bit cramped! And the way these guys are building a routine as a bona fide couple and a found family with the locals: nice! Plus, Keaton gets in some lighter moments; Gabe's obsession for a good cup of Joe made me smile.
The villain of the piece was totally unexpected (and their behavior really was villainous). The book has a Happy For Now ending vibe after some drama and danger. I'm looking forward to my next foray to the island.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
This is another great addition to the series. I was hooked (again) from the very first page, when a baby grifter tries to make master con artist Gabe believe something that shouldn't be possible. Gabe wants nothing more than to build a new life with Casey, his cat and his espresso machine, but his old life may not be done with him. Especially when another message from his mother pops up. Just like in the previous stories, the suspense is strong in this one as well. As we follow the trail left by Gabe's mother, nothing turns out to be what it seems. Who can you trust? What is true? This is a great and fun mystery/whodunnit story. Elle Keaton is a wonderful author and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. I liked both the storyline and the writing style. The story flows very naturally and is pleasant to read. The characters are likeable and lifelike. I would love to meet them in real life. For a moment, I was afraid this would be the last instalment, but there are more stories to come! I can't wait to read them.
OMG! I love these books. I love when the author focuses her stories on one couple. Each book we get to see more of their personalities emerge. This book starts with a young woman trying to claim Gabriel is her father which he doesn't believe at all and then Gabriel using his "skills" to help retrieve an item for Elton's girlfriends granddaughter. Things of course go sideways during the retrieval with Casey then scolding Gabriel. Gabriel receives a letter from someone claiming to be an old friend of his mother and that he needs to pick up some things that they were holding of his mother's. Gabriel returns with boxes filled with young Heidi's diaries and huge ugly recliner. Gabriel learns that his mother changed her name and was actually raised in a neighboring town. The mystery of Heidi's past deepens and people start taking shots at Gabriel. I really loved the twist to this story and did not even have this individual on my radar as the "villain". I hoping for another installment of Gabriel and Casey's relationship.
My opinion? This series, which must be read in order, is getting better with each book. I find myself more and more invested in Gabe and Casey's character growth and in their fledgling relationship. They're both so perfectly themselves and each man learning how to bring the other further behind their walls is great. The writing style just works for me and I love a small town mystery/ romance combination. This delivers in both elements.
In this installment on Heartstone Island, Gabe’s past once again comes rushing back in a very dramatic way. Our MCs must solve the mystery, with a little help from found family (Elton) and blood (cameos from some familiar faces from Piedras Island), whilst navigating all the twists and turns. I have to say, I didn't take note of the key clue in this story so I genuinely didn't see the big reveal coming this time. The teaser for book four in the series is a good one, too…bring it on.
An e-copy was provided by GRR. This is my honest review.
hedgehog mug, pad see ew, tufted puffin, vintage IKEA, haunted Alfred chair, Newfies, Hello Kitty keychain, flying monkeys, not the espresso machine!
By now, it goes without saying that prior reading of Books #1 and #2, in order, is required.
Whoa, author Elle Keaton has slam-dunked another awesome book in the "Subtle Deceptions" series. You'd think there is one dud in the 3-book series, but no. They're all outstanding! There's still a cliffhanger, but Gabe and Casey will be back for Book 4. I can't wait! I'm loving this series.
This book delves into Gabe's late mother's past. That means everything revolves around Gabe again. He's tired of it! Luckily he has Casey by his side. Maybe Elton too? Elton is the closest thing he has to a father. Elton is an energetic and wise septuagenarian.
I love how Ms Keaton brings all the threads of the plot and subplots together, weaving a masterpiece. I can't stop gushing about this book! Enthusiastically recommended!
This is another fantastic instalment in the Subtle Deceptions series of which prior reading is absolutely necessary. Gabe and Casey, along with their older sleuthing sidekick Elton, are once again involved in solving a mystery surrounding Gabe’s deceased mother. She certainly knew the con/grift game and because of this Gabe and Casey are soon facing plenty of action and drama with villains who do villainy things. The intriguing storyline kept me fully engaged from start to finish and the romance element had me smiling as Gabe and Casey take the big step of moving in together. Elle Keaton certainly knows how to weave a tale that keeps you turning the pages and there’s more to come in this wonderful series. After the brief introduction to what’s next I can’t wait for more adventures with these wonderful characters.
This is the third book in the Subtle Deceptions series and it should not be read as a standalone read. You really need to read this series in order. We are once again in the life of Gabe and Casey. I enjoyed reading how their relationship is growing. Gabe's past comes rushing back to shake up their happy life. Actually it is his mother's actions that come back to ensnare Gabe. Whether he wants to or not, Gabe gets caught up in the mystery of the stolen paintings. There is plenty of action and drama in this book. Attempted cons, threats and kidnapping. The story has twists and turns. I received a complimentary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I really enjoyed this book. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting. I am looking forward to the next book by this author. A wonderful addition to this series.
If trouble was a person, it'd be Gabriel Kane 💯. It doesn't matter if he's tryna find it, staying away from it, or tryna do good it'll find him wherever he is even at his front door. This 3rd book in this series definitely served what it promised. I enjoyed the mystery, the family drama, the growth in the relationship with Casey, and all my favorite side characters.
These islands definitely make me think I'd love living in a small town even when I know the nosey neighbors would irk me. I enjoy the cameo from Shay and his aunt and them being consistent in this series is kinda refreshing especially since their appearance doesn't feel forced. I also love all the new characters introduced here and hope they'll be part of the larger community as the series comes to a close in book 4. Definitely a must read but be sure to read these in order
Elle writes a fantastic mystery. This is book #3 in the Subtle Deceptions series - you absolutely MUST read the others in order first) - and the series just keeps getting better.
I love the low drama, adult relationship between Gabe and Casey. It's moving slowly through the 3 (so far) books, and they've finally moved in together by the end of this one. The story concentrates mostly on yet another mystery behind Gabe's mother. There's plenty of action, and it's always just so darned INTERESTING. The side characters are all pretty interesting too - I'd like to know the backstories on a number of them.
Really looking forward to the next book. (I've had an ARC for all 3 of these, and considered it well worth my time to keep going).
Once again this is another great book in the series, following Gabriel and Casey as their relationship continues to develop whilst Gabe works on solving the mysteries left behind by his mother. It's important it's read after books 1 and 2 or it won't make sense. There was steam, mystery, action, sweet moments and more wonderful secondary characters too. I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces from other Elle Keaton series set in the same world and there were a couple of new characters that I hope we learn more about in the future too. It ends with another HFN moment for the couple but with enough breadcrumbs about book 4 that I'm hooked already and can't wait! Overall, a brilliant read that I'd definitely recommend.
More excitement, surprises, murder and mayhem with Gabriel (Gabe) Karne. Gabe could have been the poster child for the saying, "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all." It's not quite that bad (he found Ranger Man, after all), but bad luck and trouble just seem to follow Gabe around. Despite finding a new home, a new man, new family, and steadfast friends, surprises and leftover remnants of his mother's life keeping popping up. This time, there is more information from yet another person from Heidi's past and...a daughter (Gabe's not Heidi's.) The more Gabe learns about his mother, the more he wonders who she really was. This is a fun continuation of the series, and I can't wait for the next book.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Casey and Gabe are back with more mysteries that are somehow wrapped around Gabe's arrival to town. Their relationship has continued to evolve, and we get to witness them completely fall in love with each other and take that next step in their relationship. This new mystery involves Gabe's mom and as they try to figure out how to unravel it there are many twists and turns that kept you intrigued and on your toes. The mystery, love, laughter, and all the amazing characters are what made this book so enjoyable, and I can't wait for book four. Elle did an amazing job with this series, and she is an awesome writer, my first book by Elle was the Veiled intentions series and I've been hooked ever since. I can't wait to read more of her work. ❤️😊
So is this kind of a queer scooby doo romantic suspense…yes. We get more of our Ranger Man and Charming F***er, more of their banter, more of their found and kin family. All of this set in the PNW which becomes truly a character in Keaton’s books. I love how Keaton moves time throughout this book. We see how Casey learns to be just the younger brother to Mickie, to see Gabe claim more of his identity with something as small as a library card. We get a stunning reveal as this book’s mystery is solved. We get more friends whose stories we need. The main suspense arc will continue to the fourth book. Yay for more of Heartstone!
Nothing like a kidnapping to remind you to say I love you!
Book three and Gabe and Casey are growing closer and still uncovering secrets and dealing with nasty elements in town.
The mysteries of Gabe’s mother are still being revealed, and he’s not sure he wants to find out what they are. Truly, beware of family you didn’t know you had.
Casey remains a source of strength and support, and is always trying to be a voice of reason and sane decisions, but Gabe is going to be Gabe, so all he can do is hold on and kiss his cuts and bruises.
Elle always gives us a great time uncovering the mysteries and murders, so i can’t wait to find out what chaos comes next.
This is book 3 in this series and must be read in order as it features the same characters. Casey and Gabe are getting closer in their relationship. One day, Gabe gets a visit from this young woman who claimed to be his daughter. He told her she better come back with a better cover story as he didn’t believe her. The story starts from there where Gabe gets a letter from one of his mother’s friends who had some of her items. There is also a mystery that needed to be solved due to his mother’s items. Let me tell you I was shocked who the baddie was. There will be a fourth book due to the epilogue. Loving this world and cannot wait for more.
Yessssss. This book is so good. I’ve really been enjoying how each book has it’s own mystery within the bigger mystery. The slow burn is finally burning but it takes such a backseat to the rest of the plot and I really like that. I didn’t know if I would or not but I think my love of mysteries is overpowering my love for a romance book. These characters have grown so much across the books and I love them so much. I can’t wait for the next book! Overall, very good book! This is book three in the series and it absolutely has to be read in order. There’s way too much story building and series of events happening to read out of order. Highly recommend reading the series!
This is book 3 in the series. You definitely need to read the first two. Keaton takes us for a ride in every book- we get just enough closure on the current mystery, but there is the overarching mystery or mysteries that she pulls us along for more. I loved how we got to see the progression of Gabe and Casey's relationship. However, it is still a little new, and they are still circling each other. Elton is always a delight! There are some amazing twists in this one, and we get to learn a great deal more about Gabe's mom and her past. ABSOLUTELY A MUST-READ!!! Keaton is always a must-read for me!
I was honestly surprised this series was continuing, as I was so sure the last book was the final one and I’d have been happy knowing Gabe and Ranger man were living happily(ish) together on Heartstone with Bowie and Keith. I should have known the universe wasn’t done messing with Gabe and I welcomed the chance to get to know more about his past and life before he came to Heartstone.
As usual there are more twists and turns for Gabe and a twist I honestly didn’t see coming, but I loved it. I love that these two are happily together now and they complement each other so well, I’m more than happy to spend more time with them and now I know we’re definitely not done with Gabe and Heartstone, I’m happy. More twists please.
Gabriel/Gabe’s life is riddled with mystery. Who his mother really was to his unusual family members. As a former grifter he takes everything in stride with a healthy dose of skepticism. When strange people and letters are finding him, he enlists his lover Casey and Eldon help. A girl who claims he’s her father, a letter of his last mother’s things stored in Seattle and someone shooting out his window, all within a week. This is book three in Subtle Deceptions and it takes you on a wild adventure to find the answers to the mystery.
