The history of Kennecott is the history of mining in the 20th century and this book does an excellent job of conveying that. It is also, indirectly, a history of industrial development in the US during the 20th century, which is also very interesting. Having said that, I found the book to be oddly organized and fairly technical. I work in the mining business (as a geologist) so I had little difficulty with the technical details but I think a non-technical person, or someone not involved in mining, would have difficulty with it. Having said that, there is a glossary of technical terms in the back of the book to help so perhaps I'm off the mark here. I thought the last two chapters (Legacy and Epilogue) were the very interesting with a number of concepts most people outside the resource industries might not think about. I will read the book again and I will recommend to others in mining. If you are interested in the history of mining, the western US or industrial development, it's worth a read.
