Amish woman Lucy Wagner is expecting her first child but happiness is not for her. Her husband Sam is a cold-hearted man who doesn’t allow her to neighbor with the other Amish women. She doesn’t get to attend quilting bees or other work frolics. As a result, she is frightened of everything. If not for her mammi Frieda and Nellie and Rosy, she wouldn’t have any women to talk to, so important as her due date approaches. Her mamm, Verna, comes to visit to help out when the baby comes. While she is there, a fire destroys the farm, burns Verna and kills Sam. Manny Keim, a widower, has had his eye on Lucy, worried about her treatment at the hands of her husband. Now he finds himself falling in love with her. She feels the same, but can she break out of her cocoon to accept love again? This is book two of the spirit of the Amish series. While Caleb and Emma Lapp (from book one) appear, there are a lot of new characters and a new story line.

Hard to comprehend
I love these books normally but this one left me wanting explanations. I felt something was amiss and no reason was given

I felt the book lacked a lot. Or maybe it was just me. I do not recommend this serious.

Away from her family in Tennessee, Lucy (Hochstetler) Wagner is in a loveless marriage in Pennsylvania to Sam Wagner and is with-child. In his eyes Lucy can do nothing right, but she does her best to keep peace in his house.
Lucy has a scary, strange encounter with Manny Keim and Caleb Lapp. Manny's horse Sweet Pea takes on an adventure of her own in a short time after Manny has last seen her in the pasture, while he and Caleb are tracking a stray coyote. Lucy is the one that returns Sweet Pea to Manny. Does Sweet Pea have a mind of her own? Or is the higher power taking charge of Sweet Pea for a path to come?
With Lucy Wagner with-child, she is faced with some very difficult decisions in her present life and those of her future with newborn. Can she grow out of her shyness and to learn from her loveless marriage that she had with Sam?
Can Lucy have faith and trust in her God? Will she see Love's Abundant before it is too late?
I can't answer these questions and more for you, you will have to read "Love's Abundant Harvest" for yourself. Hopefully you will enjoy it.
This was my first time reading an Amish book written by Beth Shriver. Even though I did not start with the first book in the series, I was not lost in what Beth was writing to make the story of "Love's Abundant Harvest". I would say that you can read this book as a stand alone.
I loved this book and the message that God had given Beth to write about. I don't think the same message could have came across the same if the characters would have been English, non-Amish.
I look forward to reading more of Beth Shriver's Amish books in the future.

Love’s Abundant Harvest by Beth Shriver is the first book I’ve read by this author. It was a good book and I enjoyed it. I was quite intrigued after reading the back cover of the book, but when I thought that Lucy met Manny after her husband died I was mistaken. They knew each other before and became acquaintances if not friends. I didn’t like that part, because it would have been better if they met after and became friends.
Lucy had a hard life with her husband. He didn’t physically abuse her, but with words. She was beaten down with everything she said or did.
Lucy was pregnant before her husband died and Lucy didn’t want to raise the children alone. She was with her grandmother and sister and lots of friends, but she still felt alone.
Lucy and Manny become more than friends, but Lucy has twins and then the problems start. Will she make it or will trouble keep happening?
I enjoyed this book and recommend it.

Very,very good book. It was a story of one woman's struggle in her marriage, only to be set free to pursue real love. Lucy found that in one man named Manny. Lucy was put through many trials and her faith was rekindled once again through the strong faith of the man who was willing to take care of not only a new wife, but also her two unborn babies. I was interested to see how this story unfolded, and I'm glad it ended so well. Their trust in God to overcome and help them through whatever their future held, gave me hope and encouragement to do the same. I love Amish books as they make me feel so happy when the book ends, and this was definitely one such book!

Death brings relief to Lucy after her husband dies in a fire. Lucy's husband Sam was very overbearing and verbally berated Lucy. During this Lucy is with child and Manny shows her the wonderful side to a man. In order to be there for Lucy he tries to help where he can. Manny asks Lucy to marry him and during the process she learns she is expecting twins. Manny and Lucy marry while she is in labor so the twins have a father. One twin, a son is very healthy and the other twin, a girl has genetic problems. Through all this they must remain strong and Lucy must not fear what she had with her first husband. Great story.

This was just not a good book to me. Somewhere in the pages I no longer could tell I was reading about Amish people. I scarcely could understand half of the things that took place in this Amish community. Manny meets Lucy early on before her husband ever dies and seems smitten and taken with her before he's even buried. There were just a lot of bizarre moments in this book that made me question weather or not these people were Amish or not!! This is just my own opinion; I expect a lot from Amish fiction; it's one of my favorite areas to read about. I will not revisit a Beth Shriver book.

Barn burner
When other people put us down, we listen to it for so long that we start to believe it. That is what happens to a pregnant Lucy. She is married to Sam who can say nothing but bad things about her. So she believes the worst of herself until Manny comes along. This is a sad and beautiful story all in one. See how God teaches Lucy how to love herself again and her unborn child.

A totally enjoyable book. I find it interesting to find how other people live. I have always been fascinated with the Amish and their beliefs. Though a novel and not true to their lives this book gave an insight into their lives and culture while still holding ones interest. I would recommend it to others.

This is book 2 of a series, so do leave you with lots of unanswered questions.
Also I had got at a Library Book Sale, and not read Book One of the Series, But it's a wonderful Love story of Manny and Lucy. Both had lost the ones they had married to, but God put them together. Not your typical Amish Wedding, but don't want to go into that and spoil for others.
