Outage by T. W. Piperbrook is the first book in the series by that title. A winter snowstorm of epic proportions has hit the east coast. The residents of several close Connecticut communities have been caught ill-prepared for this event. When the lights go out and the heat cuts off, the residents have to decide whether they should leave their homes and risk getting caught in their cars by the storm or feel the cold encroaching in the dark while huddled in their homes nestled in blankets.

Little do they know that several of their neighbors are not what they appear to be. A really quick read that sweeps you up with the creep factor pays off with gore and terrifying situations. One of the better aspects of the writing is that the writer puts the reader in the mind of the characters, where the reader gets to vicariously experience the terror. This is a high recommend for me. I've been in Connecticut storms like that where you lose power, and thus heat. Not a fun situation, but we totally stayed indoors huddled in my queen-sized bed with my sons. It is always the wisest thing to do unless there's a fire. Stay put!

T.W. Piperbrook's Outage is a quick read, and not just because it's shorter than most novels. I read it quickly because I couldn't put it down. The story oozes creepiness from the very first page and doesn't let up until the final word at the end of the book.

In many ways, the telling of this story is reminiscent of Stephen King. Like King, Piperbrook creates tension through the thoughts and feelings of his characters. When it's done right, the reader's fears rise and fall right along with the characters' fears... and T.W. Piperbrook does this very well.

I was not expecting the story to end how it did and it definitely left me wanting more. Outage is scary, intense, and a lot of fun-- sort of like a roller coaster ride for the mind. And like any great roller coaster, once you're off, you want to get back on! Fortunately for us, Piperbrook is supposed to have Outage 2 out very soon. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.

I recommend Outage to anyone who enjoys a well-written story filled with heart-pounding thrills and chills!

I liked this story. Not too long, only about 120 pages or so. Reminds me very much (in a good way) of an early Stephen King story. Lots of scary/suspenseful moments. I zipped right thru it.

This book (Outage) is part 1 of a trilogy, and it is still free. But a good way to go is to order the 3-book collection at $2.99. While the first book is free, books 2 & 3 go for $2.99 each. So you might as well get the collection. I certainly plan to. I saw a few low reviews, and I don't get it. I was hooked early on in this story. Kind of a cliff-hanger at the end, but it could also end there as well if you decide not to move. Again, just you would have in early King stories.

I plan to order the Outage Boxed Set Books 1-3 (Werewolf Horror Suspense Series) by T.W. Piperbrook and continue this storyline.

"Outage" has been rated "r" by the nerd association of lanie, for swearing and violence.

Ridiculous, over dramatic crap. Poorly written and weak/flat characters. It's gorey simply for the sake of being gorey. & the gore is so badly written. Like, we're simply told that someone's head was torn off, or their guts were ripped out. Just told, but it's not described or anything. I wanna be able to SEE all the blood and guts in my head, not just be told about them.

Ugh.

Imagine the worse straight to TV, low budget sci-fy flick you've seen. The terrible actors, the crappy special effects, the cheesy story line where dumb characters make SUPER dumb decisions, and a super lame excuse of a "twist" ending and that pretty much describes "outage"

Just no. Not recommended.

Interesting premise that the author didn't do anything interesting with. Some decent suspense at times, but the resolution is horribly unsatisfying, with no explanation of why anything happened, despite hints that the events of the book are not random, but part of a well though out plan. I feel like this should be part one of a much longer book, not the first book in a series. The three-book omnibus is available for free right now, but this didn't pique my interest enough to continue.

The writing, plot and characters but especially the writing - all dreadful. The author must have paid his mates to give good reviews.

Abby wakes in the middle of the night to see that the power and heating are off and a blizzard storm is raging outside. The neighbours are already leaving despite it being the middle of the night and Abby thinks they should leave too...but it is too late and something outside is waiting...

Rob and Abby are having their first winter since moving to New England and they are suffering for not getting prepared earlier. They have no wood burner or working fireplace, no chopped firewood, no back up generator, no SUV to cope with winter conditions and few supplies. Now when they need to get away from the freezing house, they find their car is not going to get them to safety. Rob is a bit of an idiot who prefers scaring his wife during the storm to helping her deal with the situation. Abby isn't the sharpest tool in the box though-if you are trying to leave to head to 'some hotel' in a dodgy car for the snow conditions, you'd take food, extra blankets etc with you instead of leaving it all behind!

Abby is nervous and with good reason, as it isn't the storm that is going to be the real danger. Something is stalking them and a few flimsy doors will not keep it out. When the beast shows itself, Abby is in real danger and has to try to outsmart it to stay alive and find help.

I liked the way that the story was written. The author conveys Abby's fear and paranoia nicely, and builds up the tension of the building storm and the fear of what is stalking them in a slow but steady way which fulls you into the story. I liked the plot and Abby was a normal woman that you can easily relate to. When the beast is stalking her she keeps changing her mind about what to do, where to go, repeating mistakes, feeling confused...and I think it fits the story, even if you want to yell at her in frustration at times!

It is also a clever story and it has a couple of things that made it different from the usual werewolf horror story. I'm afraid I can't give you a hint because it would ruin things for you. Sorry, you'll have to read it to find out, and with it being free to grab on Amazon, there's no reason not to try it!

The electric goes out and all of a sudden a winter storm like no other hits in the middle of the night. Tom and Abby just moved here and have nowhere to go and when things get a bit scary its time to find a place to hide, but with the storm hitting so hard and heavy it will be a miracle if they get out alive. When they try to escape and find themselves in the midst of an evil that is killing everyone around them what do they do? Good read, do not read it at late night while alone. You may find yourself wondering!!

I'm a sucker for a good werewolf tale. It's too bad that Outage is mediocre at best. The story is lean and fast paced, but the central character, Abby, is not very engaging. Since the plot revolves around Abby's survival, Piperbrook had trouble drawing me in. The story didn't seem to have any tension. He does throw a twist in at the end, one i didn't see coming at all, but it isn't enough to raise Outage above the average werewolf novel.

I really enjoyed this book, it wasn't what I expected it to be so that was a bonus. Enjoyed how the author set up the story line of werewolves just waiting for their opportunity to really let themselves be the predators they were meant to be, which turned out to be unfortunate for the poor folks in the snowed in town. I would suggest this book if you love werewolves behaving badly ;-,

You know those slasher movies? Where you cry out, "don't open the door, the killer is clearly behind it!" Or the teenage girl walks into a dark alley alone. Those kinds of movies? This is like that. With a stupid main character that you wish would die already because... Darwinism.

They lost me when it was "the end of the world" in their First World Country because - get this - the power went out. I live in a country where outages are a weekly occurrence, so already they lost my sympathy.
"But it's during a blizzard, Bara!" I hear you say.

It's not all bad though, so let's get into it.

Pros:
1. Excellent twist towards the end.
2. The reason for the attacks is awesome.
3. Short.

Cons:
1. Slasher-like.
2. Incompetent main character.

That's about all I can say for this one. I don't think Mr Piperbrook found his author's feet yet with this one.
Contamination by the same author was pretty good. Rather go read that one. :)

Two newlyweds wake up to a nightmare. There is a raging blizzard outside and the power is out. They find that the storm is not the only thing to fear.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I liked the rise in suspense and the fact that it was not a long overly drawn out novel (maybe because there is a book two...yay!). I am looking forward to reading more by this author.
I received a copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley for free in exchange for my honest review.

I was hooked from the prologue!! This book is absolutely fantastic!

Wow chapter 6... My heart was pumping so bad I thought it was going to come out of my chest!

I love the pace of this book too! Brilliant!

The story was great too, with each chapter I felt like I couldn't read fast enough!

I definitely need to get the next one 😍.

Interesting short prequel to what I hope will be a great series. This prequel gave me just enough to want to read more

Oh geez, I have no clue how to even begin this review. Just like this author had no clue how to write this book. It had such an interesting concept, such amazing possibilities, but it fell flat. Not just flat, but six feet under.

The characters are stupid and dull. It was impossible to have any sort of empathy towards them (I kept wishing Abby would just die already!). There's swearing for the sake of being edgy over anything else, it seems.

The writing was horrible. It think it's an establish thing when it comes to thrillers and horror, that you've got to spend time creating a scene, creating that tense, uncomfortable atmosphere, and Piperbrook does none of that. Everything is just told to you. There's no suspense, there's no effort to immerse you in this world. And it's predictable as hell. Colour me surprised at the ending < /sarcasm>. Obviously will not be wasting time reading the rest of this series.

Here are the notes I made while reading:

"What" - the amount of times this author describes an action (like looking up at the sky) in relation to 'some sort of ritual' is ridiculous. Just ridiculous.

"Sorry, what? Just...what?" - the main female (Abby) character is amused by the fact that her husband (Rob) closes the door while using the washroom after a year of marriage "because he likes his privacy". What? WHAT?

"Uh hello girl, your husband is still outside!" - Abby is in their car, dreaming about a cozy hotel bed like she wasn't just completely freaked out by the unresponsive neighbour she begged her stubborn husband not to approach two minutes ago.

"What the f*ck does that even mean?" - apparently phones can blink 'as if they're confused'.

I'm choosing, at this point, to ignore Abby's lack of doubt that her landline will definitely work when her cell doesn't, and that her cell (which hasn't worked this whole time!) will definitely work after being submerged in snow for who knows how long.

"I'm sick of reading this." - being told that 'it was like Abby was the last person alive'; being told that Abby doesn't see the creature so she must have managed to escape it and it doesn't know where she is even though she's screaming and running through a sh*t-load of snow to the exact same places over and over again.

Then we suddenly have a chapter from the creature's point of view.

Then Abby finds a gun, prepares herself to use it, but just hopes it's loaded rather than even trying to see if it is. WHAT?!

Then Abby (along with her two companions) thinks it's a good idea to try and help yet another unresponsive person after all the crap that happened the last time she did that.

I just, I can't. I'm done. Read it if you want, it is> relatively short, but I wouldn't waste my time if I were you.

Spoilers Below
I must say I was a bit leery at first. It seemed like a lot of words were glorified and then I just wanted slap the stuffing out of Abby. Everything is happening in a huge snow storm. As it happens I'm sitting here reading this book and it's been a snowing on and off for the last week. It's freezing outside so I'm really feeling Abby's coldness. But at the same time I'm thinking to myself, "Okay so the power is out and you are freaking yourself out and you own a 2 wheel drive useless car in 8 inches of snow and your best thought is to try to leave your house?" Course I grew up in this weather and come from a family of farmers that couldn't just up and leave and we managed and found a way (I know that sounds a bit pioneerish, but it's true, who's gonna feed the livestock if you run away? Build a fire!) I was also thinking in one sentence she can't hardly see a foot in front of her but yet she could make out blood pools from a distance and see the werewolf with no problem. This is minor though and I was kinda trying to look through it. I also thought she was wearing sweatpants, but then she tucks the gun in her jeans? I probably missed that she was wearing jeans but still.

Overall, being trapped in a horrible cold snow storm like this book with werewolves chasing and eating everyone is creepy. And I'll admit I did get a chill here and there. And for all my trying to look through it, I really did enjoy it and read it in an hour and half. I'm going to buy the sequel, Outage 2: The Awakening I'm just hoping it will be published in print/paperback too, cause I need a copy for my shelf.

If it wasn't a good werewolf story I wouldn't have eaten up they way I did and wouldn't be looking for the next book. So good job Mr. Piperbrook!

I acquired this book as part of the collection called Lunar Curse Box Set.

Definitely not impressed. I don't usually give negative reviews but in this case I feel obligated to do so.

The premise of werewolves in Connecticut isn't so bad. In fact, it could have worked well - but it didn't. I found myself disliking Abby, the main character. I also didn't like the depiction of the werewolf. The author tried to convey a sense of the emotions that the characters were feeling but instead of causing me to feel sympathy or a desire to cheer Abby on, I just wanted to finish the book as quickly as possible. The book had potential but instead it just seemed like a bad teen horror movie.

It's so hard to find good werewolf horror books nowadays. Most go awfully wrong since most are cheesy romance genres, but T.W. Piperbrook was here to save me from resorting to reading that! This book is a little short in comparison of novels, but the literary magic that he writes makes it worth buying and reading. I felt like I was right there in his book as the main character stuck in the dark, cold, cruel world that she is thrust into in the middle of a late October night as a beast hunts her down after wreaking havoc on her neighborhood. I can only say that I'm impatiently waiting for book 2 to release.

WOW! This book was such a great read. In the middle of a freak blizzard, the cell phones, landlines, and power goes out across a small Connecticut community. Follow Georgia transplant Abby as she finds herself alone in an abandoned neighborhood, with a blood-thirsty creature from her nightmares stalking her. Her husband quickly vanishes, and finding a ravaged body, Abby is quickly thrust into the most dangerous evening of her life. Running, hiding, and fighting back, Abby will realize just how dire her situation is. A great read for werewolf fans with truly great monsters and a fun heroine.

Outage (which I read as Outrage until I really got into this horror novella) turned out to be a fun, horror read. A couple transplanted from Georgia to Connecticut, face an October major snow storm pretty much totally unprepared. Their neighbors are leaving and finally Rob and Abby try to also, but unsuccessfully. They have no power, no heat, no cell phone service. And there is some kind of creature stalking the neighborhood. Low and behold, it is a werewolf. That's all I'm going to tell you. It took me about an hour and a half to read this novella and I enjoyed every minute of it. It is worth your time to enjoy reading it also. Will soon be getting Volume 2.

This is probably THE SCARIEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ. Seriously. What a frightening little book. Piperbrook's writing style is one that simply takes you right there. You're THERE. Sure, there were some grammatical errors (I'm one to close a book - even a good one - when I see them), but because you're so engrossed, I swear it didn't even matter.

I won't post spoilers, but I want you go to buy - get, it's FREE - this one. RIGHT NOW. If you are a fan of horror, being scared, GET IT. A friend of mine told me that she had just read the scariest book she had ever read. Being another horror junkie, I was intrigued. The girl wasn't kidding.

Thank you, Mr. Piperbrook; I'm onto book 2!

This is a great horror story!!! I read this in one hour that's how good it is. I was just blown away by the way it played out. Definitely a page turner that you do not want to miss. Will keep you on the edge of your seat and just wait for the twist at the end. That twist helped explain some of the things that had happened earlier in the book that had me puzzled. If you are a horror fan, here's your fix right here. I highly recommend it. I will be reading every book I can get my hands on by this author.

I liked the pacing of this book - it's quick to get into the action with the first victim in the prologue and continues to build from there. Once we get into Abby's story in chapter one, there's the immediate sense of something lurking in the storm. The narrative gives a good feel for the terrifying situation the character finds herself in and her struggle for survival. I really liked the twist at the end and I also loved the one chapter from the werewolf's point of view. I'd definitely recommend this to other werewolf fans, it's an enjoyable read!

My rating: 4 stars
Audiobook narrator Troy Duran rating: 4 stars

I picked this up on an Audible.com sale for the first three books in this series. This was a relatively short story that will obviously lead to subsequent stories. For the most part, I enjoyed this book. It was creepy and disturbing and I think I like where the rest of the story is going. I have not read a book that focusses just on werewolves but this is fun and isn’t romantic (like some werewolf stories are).

I thought the narrator did a great job and I am curious to know what happens in the next book.

A storm hit unexpectedly in New England and snow falls faster and furious in subdivision where a young couple from Georgia, Abby and Rob, has just moved now long before in. Worse, something else is stalking the area--something out of myths-a werewolf. Rob is killed, and Abby must fight to survive.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this short novel and looking forward to the second book in the series. After paying for the last werewolf novel and disappointed with it, this one at least was worth reading.
