Herman Parish (born 1953) is the author of Amelia Bedelia children's book series, nephew of original author, Peggy Parish. Having grown up with his aunt’s tales of Amelia’s humorous misadventures, Herman decided to carry on the legacy after his aunt’s death in 1988. He did not wish to entrust the future of the series into the hands of a children’s author outside of the family. Since Peggy had the summers off from teaching, she was able to stay with the Parish family for extended periods of time, allowing Herman and Peggy to develop a close relationship. More importantly, this gave Herman a chance to keenly observe Peggy during her writing processes, gaining great insight to the road ahead of him. To carry on the essence of the series, Herman thoroughly examined his aunt’s work and did his best to capture what exactly made the character of Amelia Bedelia such a hit. Having editor Susan Hirschman and illustrator Lynn Sweat in common with his aunt helped to make the transition. He has added thirteen more books to the series. Herman is a resident of Princeton, New Jersey, and travels to libraries and schools across the United States, speaking and inspiring young children. The importance of revising and editing is often stressed during these dynamic lectures. He has presented to students in more than 22 states.

Amelia Bedelia cleans up an empty lot and she wants to build a treehouse in the tree in the middle of the lot. Amelia Bedelia finds out that the person who owns it is selling it and they don't have enough money to buy it. The person that is selling it is Miss West. She needs more money so she can get the roof fixed and in the end the lot gets turned into a park for the whole town to share.

This book is so funny! It's all about Amelia Bedelia and her friends, and they're on a mission to clean up a big empty lot in their neighborhood. But guess what? It's not just about cleaning up trash; they're going to build a clubhouse too! How cool is that?

The best part is that the chapters are super short and fast-paced. That means you won't get bored, and you'll keep turning the pages to see what happens next. And there are illustrations on every page! They're black-and-white, but they still make the story even more fun.

Amelia Bedelia is such a silly character. She always takes things literally, which leads to lots of funny situations. Like when she tries to clean up the lot but ends up making a big mess instead. Oops!

But don't worry, Amelia Bedelia's friends are there to help her out. They work together to turn the empty lot into an awesome clubhouse for explorers. It's like a big adventure right in their own neighborhood!

Oh, and there's a guide to idioms in the book too. Idioms are those funny sayings that don't always mean what they sound like. It's cool that the book helps you understand them.

If you like books with lots of laughs, silly characters, and cool adventures, you should definitely read "Amelia Bedelia Cleans Up." It's a blast from start to finish!

Sweet story with 3 friends and a lonely interesting neighbor senior citizen. The kids want a place to have a tree house and a lot near the lady's home is cluttered. They clean it up, but then see a for sale sign. Now they have to meet the woman in that creepy house next door to talk to her about their plans and try to get her to change her mind about selling the lot. This is an early chapter book reader that will allow adults to enjoy the nostalgia of a character we know from our school days while students get a cute story with cute illustrations.

This is currently my favorite one of this series. The idioms are fun in all of them, but there is something about kids working for something and befriending community workers and neighbors that was great. I can use this book to talk about community helpers and their jobs, things we can do in our communities to help others, and how it can feel good to make a plan, follow through, and reap rewards from it.

Amelia Bedelia and her friends start an Explorer's Club but they need a place to meet. An eyesore of an empty lot with a huge oak tree for a treehouse could be the perfect spot. But after they clean up the lot and mow the grass and trim the hedges, someone puts it up for sale! Who is selling "their" lot and why? Will the Explorers Club ever have an official meeting place? Find out the answers to those questions and have some laughs along the way when you read Amelia Bedelia Cleans Up.

When Amelia Bedelia and her friends Heather and Holly create an adventure club, they need the perfect clubhouse. They find the right place but heaps of trash stand in the way. They scramble to make the vacant lot worthy. Then something unexpected happens. How will they react? How many idioms and words will Amelia Bedelia misunderstand this time?

I bought this book since my school had recommended it.The good thing is that Amelia Bedelia and her friends finally found a place where they could hangout or play. And the bad thing is that they couldn't get the lot they cleaned up.I have learnt a new word called "momento" it meaning is, an object that reminds you of a certain event, trip and many other things in the world.

Another cute book in the Amelia Bedelia early chapter book series!

Short chapters. Lots of pictures. Lots of Amelia Bedelia antics. This girl makes us laugh!

Got a bit delayed on the finishing with pregnancy. But it has a lovely end and I like the moral in this one.

I thought Amelia Bedelia Cleans Up was amazing!

This is the sixth book I have read in the Amelia Bedelia series. The main character is a girl named Amelia Bedelia, who cleaned up a dirty empty lot. She cleaned the lot with her two friends, Heather and Holly. The first day the only ones that cleaned up were Amelia Bedelia and her family.

This book shared some stuff with the other books: like all the Amelia Bedelia books, Amelia Bedelia did not understand when there are two ways to say something, like “hold on to your hat” means “it is going to get exciting!”

My favorite part of this book was when Amelia Bedelia and her friends were so happy when they saw their tree house explorers club and it was called The Easy Breezy Club. There were two ways to go down: a slide or a pole. There was only one way to go up: a ladder.

I did not like when Mrs. West’s cats went out the attic window and to the other house. I also did not like when the black cat was going up a tree when the girls scared it away.

If I were Herman Parish I would change is so that Amelia Bedelia would not get confused by words that sound the same, but have a different meaning.

I will tell my friends to read this book, especially if they want to read a book about a girl that does not know what the other thing means.

Amelia Bedelia and her friends clean up a vacant lot in order to build a clubhouse, but once the lot is neat, its owner decides to implement a few plans of her own. With an eye-catching cover, plenty of illustrations, and a generous font size, this makes a good early chapter book. The plot itself is a bit absurd in spots, but many readers have come to expect that from Amelia Bedelia books. It’s amusing when Amelia takes so many clichés literally, although a few are obscure enough to be unfamiliar to some students, and those might require a little explanation from an adult. While this one stands on its own okay, it would likely make more sense when read after the first five in the series.
