Shaken to her core by a horrible crime, Jennifer Blake has moved across the state to the little town of Stockton, hoping to find some peace. But when you're a psychic with a knack for tapping into the minds of killers, there's nowhere you can run.
Now Jen must put aside the trauma of past failures to take on the biggest challenge of her life: a killer who can read her thoughts as easily as she can his.
Free Kindle book. Currently $2.99 and worth it!! With Kindle deals or free books, you're never sure what you will get. I initially went wild when I first discovered "free" books but have since learned to do a little research before I add one to my ever growing "TBR" pile.
What I liked: Blood Eagle really surprised me. I am, for some reason, fascinated by psychic books. For some, it's vampires or werewolves; for me it's psychics. I was pretty much blown away when I realized Blood Eagle was written by a male author. Not being mean, but I now realize that more and more males are writing books with a female heroine or from the female point of view and doing a darn good job.
Blood Eagle opens with the star, Jen, wrapping up a case with terrible consequences. Do to that fact, she elects to step away from helping with police investigations. Unfortunately soon after arriving in her new home, things start happening and Jen can't ignore them, even if she wants to. It's like being an eye witness to a crime and not coming forward with information.
I was totally invested in Jen's character, the storyline and the rest of the characters. I absolutely did not want to put this book down. Now, that being said.....
What I didn't like: I wanted more background, not only on Jen but most of the characters. While the characters were intriguing, I felt they needed more development. So many unresolved questions for me. Now, if Mr. Chambers plans a sequel, I can understand the lack of some information I wanted.
Even though I figured out the "bad" guy, there were enough twists and turns to keep me fully engaged. I was so caught up initially, I didn't dwell on my many questions until I was finished with the book.
So. Chambers has done it again. I genuinely love his style of story telling. He always provides new and unique characters. this book was no exception. It stayed true to the high standards I expect from this author. Although, I did figure out who done it in the first scene they were in, (I don't think Chambers was aiming for shock value with that though.) but not the why, which was heartbreaking. Even knowing who it was the story was a thrilling read that I didn't want to put down
I was intrigued by the synopsis of this book but uncertain if I could really get into it because it's not the genre I usually like to read. I was quickly drawn into the characters and the story line, and in no time I had the book finished. I loved the style of this author's writing- I felt it was consistent and concise, with enough details to give the reader a good picture of what the author wants you to see without feeling overwhelmed. Like other readers, I quickly figured out who the killer was but that did not take away from the excitement of the chase nor other plot twists.
I had a few reasons why I took a star away (and these may be spoilers). One, some editing mistakes which may also be due to Kindle formatting. Two, I didn't feel there was very good link between Jake and his obsession with Viking mythology. Why was he so interested in it that he used the Blood Eagle as sacrifices to Odin vs. just a ritual killing pattern? Three, I felt the section of the book where Jen learns defense from Della and her Grandpa in the in-between came on suddenly. One minute she's not sure how she's able to visit them in the in-between, and the next bam! She learns how to manipulate her powers and save the day. Lastly, I felt like the scene at the end where Jen and Jake were levitating was too out-there compared to the rest of the book, which was on most levels believable.
Overall, I was very happy with this book and will recommend it to family and friends as a well-written, quick read.
Jennifer Blake is a physic. She has worked for several different law enforcement agencies through the United States. Her last job ended up sending her to a Psych Ward for six months. When she thinks she finally ready to go back into the world, she buys a house in a very small town; hoping that being away from the hustle and bustle of city life will be just what she needs. Fate, as usual, has different plans for Jennifer. Before she knows it, she is dragged into another police investigation, falling for the local detective, discovering how little she actually knows about her gift, and suffering a heartbreaking loss and fighting for her life.
I had figured out who the bad guy was early in the book, but that did not take any significance away from the narrative. Jennifer grows a lot in this book; she starts out with her gift leading her, and goes on a journey throughout, all the while learning to take control of herself. If you like crime novels with serial killers and a little science fiction/fantasy, then this is a book for you. The words seem to peel off the page and are infused with a great deal of action.
This book is exactly why I love indie author writing. Content some authors will shy away from, Chambers expertly pens it so it becomes background info to develop the characters and doesn't take away from the overall plot of the story. A little more background on the significance of the Norse mythology to the villain earlier in the story would have been helpful, however, I suspected it would be there given the title of the book. In fact, I think the title is what attracted me to the book in the first place. I thoroughly enjoyed this style of writing and will most definitely be reading more from this author.
I'd never heard of Michael Chambers before I got this as a freebie for the Kindle. I'm usually not very into very supernatural type stories, but this doesn't beat you over the head with its ridiculousness. Nice mix of mystery, serial killing, and the paranormal. Even though the killer's id is known roughly 2/3 of the way through the story, that doesn't change the quality of what you are reading. The ongoing battle between heroine and villain keeps you reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would definitely consider other works by Michael Chambers in the future.
By Robert This review is from: Blood Eagle (Kindle Edition) This is the first novel of Mr. Chambers that I have read - it will not be the last. Intriguing and filled with suspense - a page turner in the true sense of the word. What does a police physcic do when the mass murder she is after can read her mind? Welcome to the world one step beyond normal. Not your normal who done it.
a young man suffers a psychotic break when his girl is gang raped and commits suicide. he kills the rapists. a psychic tries to stop him but he's psychic too.
