(Please note: Due to editing issues, this book now contains 13 cases rather than the original 16, as mentioned in some reviews.) From the author of Kamikaze and The A Murderer's Tale -The Nazi Murder Machine'We are barbarians - pitiless... The world can only be ruled by fear...'So declared Adolf Hitler, the Fuhrer of Germany. A leader of millions, served by men and women of such appalling savagery, such merciless evil, that they make the words 'barbarians' and 'pitiless' seem all but redundant. This book features 13 such 'servants of Hitler'. Included are names almost as infamous as Hitler's own - Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Goebbels - yet also the cowardly, but wholly sadistic Irma Grese (female guard at the Auschwitz concentration camp, in sole charge of some 30,000 inmates) and Bruno Tesch, one of the owners of the pest-control company Tesch and Stabenow, who amassed a fortune through the sale of the Zyclon-B gas crystals, used in the concentration camp gas chambers, to the Nazis.
I got this book for research. It was more than helpful and showed me a side of the Nazi war machine I had never known previously. Illuminating and absolutely chilling.
Fun little read, though there were some inaccuracies. I'd recommend for the photos, a few of which I somehow haven't seen before. What an unflattering shot of Mengele, I'd be a bit annoyed if such a similar shot of myself were used, though it was amusing at least. It's a 20 minute read, so you can really get through it anytime of day. Very short, but amusing still.
This is a very short book about a number of the upper echelon Nazi leaders. I thought it might be a good book to keep on my Kindle for quick reference while reading a number of books on Hitler and the Third Reich. Unfortunately, it was very poorly written and documented. In many cases, there was more opinion than fact to the articles. Since it was only 99 cents, I'm not out much, but it is a waste of time.
An informative read delving into the lives of some of the main Nazis. In addition to explaining the atrocities they were responsible for, the book also goes into a bit of backstory for each individual to offer an explanation as to why they did what they did.
The author has written a laconic and powerful book of some of unknown Nazi war criminals. Everyone should take adequate time to read this outstanding work.
This brief text is a little like a compilation of encyclopedia entries about the perpetrators of the Final Solution, but only focusing on the dastardly (truly, truly evil) deeds they committed. It's sensationalistic and somewhat lurid, but does provide a small glimpse into the Nazi mindset.
As the title states it “16 Portraits” is a compilation of 16 short biographies of horrific Nazi members that were particularly cruel. It is a short book that shows how brutality and insensitiveness can appear when the moral is loosened. Really, there is a deep true in Nietzsche’s assertion: “Man is wolf to Man” This short book shows that the devil exists, hence, we must be conscious that provided the convenient circumstances; such dreadful people is ready to appear again.
Short, quick bios on 13 horrific people in WWII Germany. How important it is to remember what happened and who was behind the deaths of so many people.
